A real shame this show is ending. Goren and Eames were a great combo, hopefully if the ratings keep up it will hand around longer (at least as an occasional made for TV movie or something)

I almost forgot about this episode, but managed to get to it tonight.
I'm a 1st time CI watcher (I know it's weird that I picked this up in the Final season) so excuse me if I'm a little lost on the background of these characters.
This was the episode that was supposed to explain how Goren and Eames and they kind of touched on it, but didn't really make a big deal about it. From what I got out of it, Goren was brought back because of his skills in reading people with the catch that he needed to see a police psychiatrist regularly. I assume Eames was brought back since she was his partner and to keep an eye on him.
Background question: Was Goren fired/left the NYPD for being mentally unstable or something?
As for the case in the episode, it was alright. It didn't really end with any closure other than the priest admitting he likes to have sex and the Cardinal overhearing it. The girls suicide/murder was still unsolved although it's assumed the Priest did it.

Really liking this Law and Order. I don't know how I missed this version all these years. Goren and Eames are great. Can't believe this supposed "Final" season is half over.

See, the good thing is, you can always watch constant reruns on USA and Bravo so you'll always have new episodes floating around.

Really good episode. The actress who played the teacher was really good. I liked her scene at the end with her and Goren and him describing the details about the death. Nice little fake out too with her father.
It was also nice to see Jack McGee again. He's been getting some pretty steady work since leaving Rescue Me a few years ago.
D'Onofrio is really good on this show. Going to have to re-visit some of the earlier seasons.
Sucks they are taking a 2 week break.

I'm really digging this season especially with it being the last. The psychologist and Goren are great. I agree the teacher was awesome at the end. Loved Eams and Goren visiting her father. Irish Alzheimer : )
This even makes me even more angry that they did not allow the original Law & Order to give us this type of story with the characters in the final season.
Thanks for the heads up on the 2 week break.

Over the last 4 episodes, they have done a good job keeping a running storyline with Goren seeing the psychologist and working through his issues. I read that USA said this final season is really about the redemption of Goren.

Very good episode. I saw the fake-out with the dad a mile away but it was still a very resolution.
It was great to see Beatrice Rosen on TV again.

at Goren's "Hard-Attack" line.
Once again I enjoyed Goren's psych sessions with Julia Ormond's character. I thought it was interesting how she gave him such a hard time about his relationship with Eames. Afterwards, he got so defensive. The case was predictable, yet I liked the resolution and how the wife tried to manipulate Goren and Eames with the fake confession to create reasonable doubt.

This was a damn good episode of CI. If you haven't watched it yet, you really should watch it ASAP. Some really solid performances by everyone, especially Vincent D'Onofrio.
Some of you may remember Camille Chen, who played the daughter in this episode from her appearance on Californication last season. She was featured in a very graphic and funny sex scene with Evan Handler. Let's just say she has a phenominal body.
But anyways, I thought it was a great story and I liked the reveal at the end about her mother being the killer. I could relate to alot of that story growing up in a strict Asian household with parents who push you too hard.
The final scene with Goren flipping out at his psych session was great.

FYI, next Sunday will be the Series Finale in case you didn't already know. I know most in forum who watch this probably won't watch this tonight. Even though this was the 1st season I watched CI, I enjoyed this little abbreviated final season. I wish they would have at least given them 13 episodes to go out instead of just 8.

Re: Law and Order: Criminal Intent -- "Icarus" -- 6/19/11
I've been watching the past few weeks and will watch tonight. A far improvement from the Goldblum season from last year. It's closer to the heyday of the series where they focused on the "why" of the crime. Later seasons seemed to miss that element.
Only thing I don't like is the couch sessions with Julia Ormond as they seem kinda pointless. Jay Sanders as the police chief is a step down from Eric Bogosian and Jamey Sheridan of earlier years. He's just kinda there and exhibits no personality at all.

I enjoyed the episode, I like how the understudy said that it was a little to much All About Eveish, and then the critics name was DeWitt, I also don't like the couch sessions and I thought I was the only one who felt Jay Sanders is a waste. Going to miss the show.

Very solid final season. Even though this was my 1st season watching the show, I really enjoyed it and the chemistry between Goren and Eames. I may go back and re-visit the older seasons.

And so one of the better Law and Order series offispring goes out once again with a whimper. Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe, you deserved better! But this was better than nothing I suppose.
At least better than the 'barely there' sendoff the two got a few seasons back. I'm glad the producers of the show or whoever had the power to bring this back for 8 episodes did so, it was enough to cleanse our palates of the sub-par past seasons with Jeff Goldblum and Chris Noth. They were each fine in their own ways but nobody chews up the scenery better than Vincent D. His quirky, 'crazy/genius' detective and the off-putting ways in which he treated the suspects were always a hoot to watch.
These last 8 crime stories were each okay as stand alone episodes but one wonders why bring the show back to give the characters closure and then wrapping things up through a few half-hearted therapist sessions between Julia Ormond and D'Onofrio? I would have much rather have seen a single two hour movie that really delved into Detective Goren freeing him from his demons and leaving him somehow dramatically changed with a chance for happiness. Instead we are left where we started, Goren still conflicted but making an effort to resolve his issues, and unresolved romantic tension between Eames and Goren that Goren, (at least from his therapist's perspective) is many more year's worth of sessions away from moving forward on. What kind of closure is that?

From what I remember reading D'Onofrio was tired of the show in the first place and Erbe was canned because he wouldn't go another season. If anything people should be happy he agreed to come back and try and send the series off with some dignity after Goldblum decided a few episodes in to his run he didn't like the show.

I didn't know it was Goldblum who chose to leave the show. I thought he was left go due to poor ratings (most likely caused by the departure of D'Onofrio and Erbe).

Re: Law and Order: CI -- Series Finale -- "To the Boy in the Blue Knit Cap" -- 6/26/1
Just finished watching this. Kind of a ho-hum "Series Finale" if you ask me. As a standalone case of the week it was pretty good. I have to give USA some credit that they got some good guest stars for this final season. It appears to me that they chose the NYPD Blue approach to ending the show with everything just being another day at the office.
Obviously Goren still has alot of issues and I think his psych sessions with Julia Ormond's character showed that he needs the job more than it needs him. I haven't watch the show enough to know about Goren and Eames past history, but I really didn't get any sense in this 8 episode season that there was any sexual tension or unresolved feelings between them. It appeared to me at the end when Eames showed up after his session that she was just being a supportive partner.
The way they ended the show with Goren and Eames driving off to another crime scene leaves it open for possibly a 2 hour TV movie or even a mini-series should USA want to continue this in some form.

I liked it. I didn't get the facebook/Social Network tie in until my sister mentioned it. I'm still not a fan of those therapist sessions as they didn't tell me anything I didn't know. I saw no real tension between Eames and Goren. I did sense some tension between Goren and Dr. Gyson though.
I'm glad they did this abreviated season. Last season was such a dud especially with the Goldblum/Saffron Burrows episodes.
