Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

I wish that CBS shows would show a measurable drop in ratings to point that their advertisers would start to bail. Maybe that would teach them a lesson about having cake & eating it too.

I'm not even sure what's on CBS right now. Big Brother is the only thing I miss. That Love Island thing seems like a failure and it's on every single weekday. Like I said before, I'm sure football will put the pressure on.

This did get me to finally setup HDHomerun and Plex to record Big Brother, though, so one step closer to cutting the cord. Also, great negotiating tactic if you're up for another discount with DirecTV.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

Blood and Treasure is the big scripted show on CBS right now. It's done well in the ratings and renewed. Also I think the final season of Elementary is still airing.

If this standoff still goes on this week, I'll just watch B&T on CBS All-Access.

NBC is better and they don't do these stunts like CBS does.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

The ONLY show we watch on CBS is Survivor... I've not checked, but I think I could always pick it up off Hulu so I'm not too worried about this.

5 days and still nothing has happened. This is another pain in the ass for all the bad stuff that has happened in 2019.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

CEO Randall Stephenson, on an analyst call, addressed CBS stations going dark on his DirecTV and U-Verse platforms after the two sides failed to reach a new carriage agreement.

From the Hollywood Reporter

Stephenson was also asked about CBS stations going dark on AT&T's DirecTV and U-Verse platforms after the two sides failed to come to terms on a new carriage agreement.

The AT&T boss said both sides were "not that wide" on terms for a new deal, with the phone giant having put a "fair offer" on the table five days ago, only to receive no response from CBS. "We're still sitting here in the dark and not having interactions with CBS," Stephenson told analysts.

CBS stations in more than a dozen cities, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia and other major markets are impacted, affecting about 6.6 million viewers. Stephenson ventured CBS' silence may be due to being "distracted" with other negotiations, a nod to possible merger talks with Viacom.

Stephenson was less optimistic about DirecTV's separate carriage dispute with local stations owned by Nexstar Media Group. "That one may take longer. We'll just have to be resolute on this one," he said as both parties were far apart on agreeing on final terms for a new carriage deal.

Sounds like it will go for a while. Dammit.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

So this is how much I pay attention. I tried to watch Sherlock last night and see that CBS is gone...

As someone mentioned no way this goes into Football season. I have HD rabbit ears that I can use but this really sucks.

They probably did this on purpose and for PR so you can be a sucker and pay for their CBS All Access Streaming service.

Directv will send you a free antenna to hook to your Genie to pick up the locals.

How do you ask for it, just contact them? I assume I need a specific type of Genie as well.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

Once A&T took over you can't chat or send emails to Directv and you can only contact them through the phone

No not accurate, I did a chat with them 2 weeks ago and got 55 bucks in credits. You have to chat with them via AT&T website. When you pay your bill now it's all done at the AT&T site, not DirecTV.

i did it over chat actually. Said I was not happy paying for a service and not getting all the channels and I deserved some type of credit. They gave me a $5 credit and said they were sending an antenna. Seems to work with the HD DVR genie pretty well. The antenna is some flat magnet thing.

Re: DirecTV -- News and Updates

Would it work if you live in a hilly area and can you record shows to your dvr from the antennae?

I popped onto dvr .com yesterday and the $5 credit was there as an offer to except or decline.

I didn't read the above article but I did read over at Cord Cutter News.com where someone mentioned that CBS was threatening to pull the CBS games off of NFL Sunday Ticket.

if that's true, they should have just done that on day 1.

Maybe they did, but they were both playing the staring game until the preseason was upon us.

I don't follow the ratings but how badly were the CBS ratings affected by this?

Maybe but that's a losing battle for DTV. A threat to pull live games and all CBS games from Season Pass is all CBS had to do. Zero chance DTV/ATT would risk that amount of customer cancellations. No skin off CBS's back if DTV kept them blacked out. People want football FAR more than they care about DTV.
