That's awesome! I know a lot of people were concerned how MGMHD would be showing movies.

Four new channels today, plus up to 20-25 more by the end of the month and 50 more by the end of the year.

DirecTV rules.

Dave, it isn't too late to join the dark side. You can get four months of their best programming package for free

Just a reminder, Starz is free this weekend (actually started yesterday, forgot about it), and they have FIVE HD channels, so my poor HR20s are going to get full (as if they weren't full enough with unwatched new shows).

I was surprised at how many shows on the Kids channel I wanted to record - I love animated shows in HD, and there are a lot on that channel.

The DTV guy is on my roof now installing the new dish. I was able to get the HR20 for $100, but they gave me free Showtime and HBO for 6 months. I'm not the sort of person who has the patience to go through 7 CSRs before I get the best deal possible, so I'm fairly pleased with the final result.

Man, they threw me for a loop today. A non-Wednesday launch...hopefully we get even more on Wednesday.

Cartoon Network is stretching old cartoons, but it doesn't look as bad as non-animated shows do stretched. FX seems to be upconverting non-HD material, not stretching it. Fox Business Channel looks good. Speed and Fuel don't do much for me, but the more channels the merrier.

Now I hope they do marathons on FX of The Shield and Rescue Me...2 shows I missed when they started, then never watched them because I was tight and didn't buy the DVDs and was too big of an HD snob to watch the re-runs on FX.

DirecTV's turn for funny math

The 70 channels include 8 PPV channels and 8 DSN channels that most of the country can't get.

Well, the more NHL games in HD, the better.

FXHD showed "Damages" window-boxed last night. Dissappointed that it wasn't full HD.

This is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for. The movie & tv channels are great, but I've been eagerly anticipating the extension of hockey coverage. When FSPittsburgh announced how many games they were showing in HD this season I started drooling and now that Directv has added it to the lineup I'm pretty much bursting with excitement at the thought of having just about every Pens game in HD this year!

Well, most of the new HD channels are live, so DirecTV has done their part. Now these damned stations all need to start airing things the way they are supposed to be aired!

If a show is available in 16x9 HD, air it that way!

Hey, a question here and hopefully not too off topic.

I was with Directv from 1995 to 2005 and then had to move into an apartment where I couldn't have it. I'm thinking of going back now since I believe I can have a dish on the roof where I live now.

The question is, do I need a phone line to have Directv? The reason I ask is because I signed up with AT&T U-Verse which is kind of like FIOS, but not quite, but I was able to drop my phone line because I didn't need DSL anymore.

I'm thinking of dropping U-Verse (too many problems) and was wondering if the Directv HD DVR that I want can connect to Directv via the Internet to do updates and to log any PPVs.

Thanx Chris

No phone line necessary. They'll encourage it, and may pressure you...but I don't have one at all, and haven't had a problem with updates/PPVs.

Oh goody, so all of that can be done thru the Internet connection?
