'Conchords,' 'Entourage' Keep Flying
HBO renews comedies for 2008
HBO has renewed its comedies "Entourage" and "Flight of the Conchords," lending a measure of stability to a lineup that's in a little bit of flux.
The two shows, which air back-to-back on Sunday nights, are poised to end their current seasons -- the fourth for "Entourage" and the first for "Conchords" -- on Sept. 2. HBO says they'll be back with new episodes sometime next year.
"'Entourage' is a full-fledged cultural phenomenon, and 'Flight of the Conchords' has quickly become a show to watch," HBO Entertainment president Carolyn Strauss says. "I'm delighted that we'll be bringing new seasons of these distinctive series to our subscribers."
An Emmy nominee for best comedy series, "Entourage" has seen its ratings grow steadily over the course of its life. Debut airings now average about 3 million viewers a week (encores and on-demand viewing push that number up). The season's remaining episodes will deal with Eric (Kevin Connolly), Vince (Adrian Grenier) et al taking their movie "Medellin" to Cannes and trying to get a new project off the ground with impossibly difficult director Billy Walsh (Rhys Coiro).
"Flight of the Conchords," which stars Bret McKenzie and Jemaine Clement as a New Zealand folk-rock band taking New York not especially by storm, has become a cult show this summer. Though it draws only a million or so viewers on its initial airing, it's earned a lot of critical praise, and clips from the show and the duo's live performances are big draws on YouTube.
Sub Pop records released a Conchords EP titled "The Distant Future" earlier this month and will follow up with a full-length album in January.

Cool, good news!
Now hopefully HBO doesn't rape us on the season 1 release, but that is probably inevitable.

HILARIOUS ep. Murray was superb, as was the song to cheer him up. Great stuff and I'm glad this show's sticking around. The Lord of the Rings music video was top notch...

I think this was probably my favorite episode so far.
The Lord of the Rings video was awesome.

Guide has said that for me the last 3 eps.
Loved it, esp as Brett was in LOTR..

Murry was in a rage, when they told him, also love how the video shoot was quite expensive at $50.

I had no idea Brett (Bree?) was in Lord of the Rings, but by coincidence I was flipping channels this weekend and The Return of the King was on. I paused to watch a scene with Liv Tyler because she is so hypnotically beautiful, when suddenly they cut to a dark haried elf who says something like "We must go, my Lady" and whadda ya know, it was BRETT!
I quickly checked imbd to see if Jemain might show up, or maybe spot Murray as an Ork.

No, Jemaine isn't in the LOTR movies.
See, they call him Figwit (Frodo is great, who is that?). He didn't have a speaking part in the earlier movie and was brought back by popular demand.

I heard somewhere that practically everyone in New Zealand was in Lord of the Rings

Flight of the Conchords *Season Finale* - "The Third Conchord" - 9/2/07

Spoiler:
Loved this episode. And this show was a great surprise for me this summer. I remember watching the HBO comedy special with these guys a couple years ago and liking it, but I was unsure of how it would translate into a weekly series. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. Murray is hysterical.
Anway, the highlight of the season finale was easily Brett's "Footloose" dance when got angry after getting fired.

Was anyone else as pissed as I was that they didn't do any songs? I figured with it being the season finale and all they would either have one really good song or a bunch of songs. The closest thing to a song they had was the song by the Crazy Dogggz which wasn't even funny. Oh well. The angry running sequence was really funny though.

Another funny episode and a great way to end the season.
I loved the footloose angry-dance from Brett, especially considering it didn't seem like he was telling the truth earlier when he said he sometimes dances when he's angry.
They really like to re-use the one gag (which surprsingly hasn't gotten old... yet) with them talking and then the camera angle changes to discover someone else is in the room. They must've used it about 7 or 8 times so far, twice in this last episode.
Can't wait till next season.

So Murray kept managing the other guys and now he's filthy rich? Weird.
Loved the key-tar but wouldn't like a song to end the season...

Liked it, especially Murray at the end but for a season finale, it was underwhelming. I had wished there was at least 1 more song in it, something to send the season off. And I didn't really like Bret doing his 'angry dance', since the movie HOT ROD had a very similar sequence where Rod 'punch danced his rage away', which was shot very similar but was way funnier.

I love Murray. In my mind he's "Lord of the Dicks."
