My opinion on the baby thing. When that one girl died on the table Juliet said she thinks it happens at conception. Clair, Danielle, and even Sun all came to the island pregnant and the ill effects of pregnancy that plagues the island women is not going to affect them. That's why Alex came out alive and well. Claire may have been grabbed just to test - then they threw the implant in as a safeguard.

Has this been made clear than Sun was pregnant coming to the island? I thought perhaps the island made Jin fertile again.. that ep is a lil fuzzy to me.. anyone?

RichC2 04-12-07 01:09 PM

Yeah, I thought Jin was made fertile by the island, so Sun would have gotten knocked up during tent sex.

I assumed it was baldy who knocked her up.

CharlieK 04-12-07 01:16 PM

Didn't Hurley give Jin a thumbs up sign during a montage one time? I thought that's when the seed was planted.

pinata242 04-12-07 01:21 PM

We'll find out in 6 months of island time (season 9?) when the kid is born. If it comes out bald, I think we'll have our answer.

I'm still convinced it was her English tutor's kid as well and she came to the island all preggers. If her body starts rejecting the "intruder" then I think we can assume it was conceived on the island as per Juliet's theory.

Plus haven't they been on the island like 3 months now? I forget when pregnant women start putting on weight?

Ah, ok. Forgot that guy's name.

So that place (with airport) where Juliet got dropped off could be sort of a "base" for the Others/hostiles in the states.

pinata242 04-12-07 01:49 PM

I sure wish we could have seen how "intense" the trip to the island was that it required Juliet to be tranquilized.

Spoiler:
"Baldy" is not on the cast list for the upcoming Sun/Jin episode (where her baby daddy is said to be revealed), so I am taking the position that he is not the father

BlackCapTen 04-12-07 02:28 PM

General sequence as I see it now:

Ben and a small group exist on this island (perhaps they were put there, maybe they just evolved). They are later known as the others/hostiles.

Dharma is founded and their purpose is to conduct experiments on this wacky island that one of the founders discovered by accident.

Others/hostiles eventually battle it out with the Dharma people and the hostiles retake their island and make use of Dharma's people/equipment/facilities/knowledge/etc as best they could.

Plane crashes, hostiles make use of them as they need to.

My guess for next week:
Spoiler:

Desmond's previous girlfriend arrives on the island but finds out she cannot go back to the real world.

Alex was conceived/born on the island 16 years ago. Danielle didn't come to the island pregnant. Ben says he's been on the island his entire life. Kate and James might have conceived a child while in the cage.

And what the hell was Desmond shooting into himself everyday?

I don't think there's ever been any dialogue to confirm it either way, but I've always figured that time passes more slowly on the island, not faster. I think I got it in my head that it works that way due to the fact that it's still 2004 for the survivors.

But now that I think about it, island time has to be the same as outside world time. When Ben showed Jack the World Series on TV, Jack didn't say anything like "How are you showing me next year's World Series?" And when Desmond figured out that his missing a button push brought down Flight 815, the dates seemed to be in sych as well. And now, Ben showing Juliet the current day's paper to prove her sister was still alive would seem to seal the idea that everyone's on the same time. If the island was really 3 years behind, showing her a newspaper with a futuristic date wouldn't prove anything.

I guess it's time to scrap my time distortion theory.

Alex was born on the island - not conceived. Well according to http://www.lostpedia.com/wiki/Danielle she was 7 months pregnant when they came to the island.

A-aron 04-12-07 03:28 PM

When Ben showed Juliet her sister, he then told the person with the camera to come back as they may have new people on the island (this was when the plane crashed).

So - when did this person return? Since Ben told him to return to the island that guy had to have been on his way back from San Fran - which, to me, means that he also was able to leave and return, since Ben told him to "come back" and not just "come to" the island.

I don't think anyone new has arrived on the island, so perhaps this person hasn't returned yet.

Come to think of it, in the preview
Spoiler:
I swear I heard the sound of a helicopter
. Perhaps this is the guy returning.

pinata242 04-12-07 03:35 PM

He was talking to Richard. The guy who recruited Juliet. He was there when Locke blew up the sub and they "found Cooper in the magic box". Richard must still be there on the island (or wherever the Others are hiding).

A-aron 04-12-07 03:42 PM

But wasn't Richard on the sub with her when she woke up? Ben has said that once you left the island you could not return. This would contradict the fact that BatManuel brought Juliet to the island, then went back to San Fran, and then came back again.

CharlieK 04-12-07 03:44 PM

I think if you had the exact coordinance, you could return to the island. Without them, you were screwed.

Big Boy Laroux 04-12-07 03:49 PM

they also have the sonar beacon to guide in the sub. well, they had it before the huge EMP.

Jack Bender is one of the better directors on the show. Shame they don't get to use him more.

He's done episodes of Lost, The Sopranos, Carnivale and.... Child's Play 3.

I think he meant without knowing what you were doing, you couldn't return. Ethan appears to have been to the island several times. He said the trip was intense... implying he had been there prior to taking Juliet there.

BBL got it. Before they had the sonar beacon to guide them back, but the hatch implosion destroyed that meaning if anyone left now they couldn't get back.
