I hate it when they put everyone in the montage. There's always such funny ones that I want to see the whole audition for.

I loved his interaction with that girl with no emotion and mumbling problem who thought she was the next "Ashanti".

I am usually not a fan of the "goof" auditions, but I am reminded of my all time favorite Idol Audition - Leroy Wells....Can you dig it?

Something popped into my head last night when thinking about how much better this episode was compared to Seattle and I realized that most of the Idol winners were from the South or Texas.

So I looked it up.

Turns out all of them are.

And all the runner-ups but one are too (McPhee, from SF).

So there's a decent chance you'll see the winner come from the Memphis or Birmingham episodes. Whether it's because the South are more loyal to their contenders or if they're simply better musical singers than the rest of the country (or both), I find that it's not coincidence that 9 of 10 winners/runner-ups have been southern or Texan.

Sorry, I had the sound off, but:

That guy with the chinchilla stole on at the beginning tonight: was he on last year? I know I've seen him someplace before. Anyone else recognize him? And no, I didn't just recognize the stereotype, I recognized him from someplace, Stern maybe....

EDIT: At the 8:30 break, Fox5 news in NYC is already promo-ing an exclusive behind-the-scenes interview with him (Ian Benardo).

I had no idea that Joan Collins was going to be a guest judge tonight.

Ya know, I know all these tryout eps are contrived. They let through the very good, and the horrendously bad, because they know the later is why people watch.

But I do watch. When it comes to Idol, this is really the only part I do watch.

And even though I know it's contrived, I can't help but wonder - for those who really do suck, yet actually think they can sing, or have any talent, how can they seriously not realize they are NOT what this show is looking for, after all the time it's been on???

that has a good ring to it...but I think you mean "So You Think You Can Dance"

anyways, quite a night. I really liked the second of the two BFF girls...she was smokin. I can't wait until they gussy her up when she moves on further.

It's a bummer we don't get to see a lot of the people who get to the top 24 or whatever, like Melissa whats her name from last year.

That chick who they played the soap opera music for was hilarious it almost was like she was auditioning for a soap role, very funny. pathetic.

I was surprised they let through the girl with the sob story about her mean daddy and the (apparent to me) fake nose.

And the two little hotties won't last. They just got through for how they can play up the friend vs friend story. "Kick 'em when they're down," as Simon said.

That nut who admitted she couldn't sing but thought she could be an American Idol anyway...man, she freaked me out!

And I've never really been a fan of Seacrest before, but when he said that chick was getting all melodramatic, and they added the soap opera music...i was LOSING IT!!

The 1st girl is an average trained singer, but her best friend has more natural range and melody to her voice.

I still want to know why Joan Collins was one of the judges.

Holy balls were there some weird auditions tonight.

What was the girl who went in, admitting she was tone deaf, but she wanted to be the first non-singing American Idol. Uhm... what?

It's SINGING competition. Wow.

I liked cleavage girl from the other night- that Simon said was a handful. *snicker* I was trying to find a clip of it online, but I can't find it.

Rachel reminds me of April on Gilmore Girls, but she's got versatility to spare.

Ok, I have a serious question. Ian Bernardo, Superstar. Was that all a show for TV or is he really that whacked out in real life? Do people who sing like him and pretend they can sing REALLY think they can sing, or they KNOW they can't sing and they're just hamming it up for the camera? (I'm sure there's people pretending to be nuts and pretending to be able to sing, but is there a group of people who REALLY are that nuts and REALLY think they can sing and they sing horribly?). It's like watching Jerry Springer... the crazies come out and play I.e. is Ashanti for real or was that all just an act? I can't believe someone's that delusional and melodramatic. Maybe I just live around too many normal-ish (or normalier) people.

Another question: Why is it that even after the judges say stop singing, people keep on singing. It's rude.

The girl with the ginormous ass gums from last night is still scaring the hell out of me. Now that is what you call a Black and Decker Pecker Wrecker.

Was that Ian Benardo guy saying "Warrior" instead of "Gloria" when singing or was it just me? And what about his comments to some people in the streets when he called them "illegals"? I'm surprised that nobody has beat him up yet.

Anyways, I'm rooting for the Canadian girl now living in St. Monica. I liked her voice and looks, not that I'm bias or anything

This kid was exactly the same way on "So You Think You Can Dance." Maybe even worse. He came in with a full fur coat on that time. "Is there anywhere I can put my expensive fur coat?" haha. I think he really is that delusional.

Santa Monica? Yeah, she was great. I like her, too. It's great when the hotties come in and Randy and especially Simon are practically drooling. Sometimes Randy looks at Simon knowingly...

Honestly, I think some people like Ian are hamming it up. I think he believes he has talent, but America should love him for his overall presence as an entertainer. It's still delusional.

I have a friend whose singing is barely passable. I mean he won't break any glasses, but should keep his singing limited to the shower. He spent $3,000 on singing lessons last year and is still practically tone deaf. It's like I wonder why he can't hear he's out of tune? When we do kareoke (sp?), people start talking and sometimes snickering when he's singing and he cannot understand why.

These people exist, they really do.

Simon was 100% right - this was all Shtick! He wasn't even trying to sing.

I live in NY - and they had Ian on the Fox 10pm news as a kind of guest reporter.
