Just heard a snip of Paula's interview with some radio station. She said that this season by far had the "worst" contestants try out. I hope we don't have another Season 3 situation where I stopped caring who won two months before the finale.

I like warming up to the season by seeing the first auditions, although I wish they wouldn't give any airtime to the clowns that are singing badly on purpose just to be on television.

I agree. I'm more entertained by the mediocre and "pretty good" singers who don't make the cut, and flip out.

I hate this part.

Can we just get to the show already? Every year, the auditions part gets longer. It was only funny the first year and now I just can't wait until the real competition shows begin.

That preview of the guy singing "Unchained Melody" was hilarious! Anyone else catch that?

They do carry on with the first auditions a little too long. Two episodes a week for three weeks is overkill, but it's ratings gold.

I started watching A.I. in season 2 and was floored at how funny the auditions were. My 2 favorites was the dork who sang "Like a Virgin" and the awful Enrique Iglesias wannabe who wouldn't give up trying.

Now, the bad auditions have really lost their luster. It's just flat out annoying now seeing obviously bad people just trying to be on TV.

Personally I'm looking forward to hearing the good singers.

I do enjoy the bad singers. It provides for a good laugh before the real show actually starts.

When will they learn that costumes never impress the judges?

Last year, some doofus came in dressed as the Statue of Liberty to sing "New York, New York" and got as far as "Start spreading the news" before Simon rejected him.

It goes without saying that those in costume know they have no hope of getting to Hollywood...they are just aping to appear on television.

i guess this means no house tonight
i enjoy the auditions.. as mentioned above, like a train wreck.. you just cant turn away
not to mention.. its good to look back and see how it started. (Like Taylors audition last year where simon wasnt going to put him through and insisted that paula and randy would never let him passed the next round)

but yea.. they can do without the clowns that are obviously just acting stupid for air time

Spoiler:
This guy was on the news and despite the costume, he's going to Hollywood.

Sergeant Warren admits his Batman gimmick might have been an influence in him making it past thousands of other competitors. When the San Antonio native was selected, he tucked his ticket, just a yellow sheet of paper, under his black cape and walked toward the "loser" doors. He then turned around and revealed the honor to the crowd.

I am hoping they at least show every candidate that eventually make it to the top 20 or 16 or whatever. Last time, I don't believe they even showed the coco cabana guy or a couple of the other contestants until they started to sing in the elimination rounds. How fair is that when you get Kelly Pickler or that drunken uncle shoved down everyone's throats at every opportunity.

Whatever, I will still watch this show. damn fox.

Anyone know which audition city is being shown tonight? I never really watch the show, but, as I live in San Antonio, I do not want to miss those auditions in hopes that I recognize someone.

*edit* If tvguide.com is correct, it would appear that they have to be on Wednesday 1/31. Guess I know what I'll be doing that night.

do they always spend this much time on each person? I mean, the girl singing the prince song...wearing the tie...why do they show her singing the whole song? geesh.

I don't remember it being like this in previous seasons. The first hour is nearly over and I bet we've only seen like 6-7 people.

The "Shakira" chick only got through cause Simon wanted to bone her. And Randy did too.
