Never thought about Bo looking like Meat Loaf before (I can see it though), but I've always thought that he looks like Princess Vespa's stunt-double from "Spaceballs".

And Anwar reminds me of the guy with the dreads singing the chorus at the end of MJ's "Black or White" video. Okay, maybe that's just me!

Back to the topic - I'm glad they're singing again tonight because I missed the first 20 minutes (Carrie, Bo, Scott, Anthony) last night. And it's on at 9, so I don't have to tape "Survivor" - woo hoo!

moocher 03-23-05 07:01 PM

Are we really sure they are actually singing again tonight?

"This new show will combine new live elements with encores of Tuesday’s performances from the remaining 11 contestants."

This to me means that we will see some new live stuff with tape of last night's performances. In TV lingo an encore showing is a rerun. That would be a fairer way to do this IMO. What if someone who nailed it last night screws up tonight or visa versa? That wouldn't be very fair. I don't know the best way to handle this but having last night's performances thrown out completely isn't it. I doubt they are singing again.

Mad Dawg 03-23-05 07:05 PM

The ad that just ran said "Live judging, encore performances."

Well then this really blows. Mikalah could actually redeem herself and stay alive. What about Nadia or the others who picked a crappy song (according to the judges)? How do they repeat knowing what the judges think of their choice? Would the one eliminated due to this screwup have a legal case against Idol? Hmmmm...

They aren't singing again. The performances will be the one's from Tues night's show:

" In a conference call with reporters on Wednesday, Idol producer Ken Warwick said that this solution -- airing new live comments from Ryan Seacrest and the judges around the taped performances from Tuesday's show -- would not only be less "boring" than a complete rerun of the performance episode, but was also "the only way the whole thing can be fair."

He said that, as soon as Fox alerted producers to the mistake, all the votes were discarded, and no one involved in the production knew what the tally had been. He didn't say who would eat the cost of the re-vote, but callers and text-message users won't be charged for last night's votes. As for the cause behind the misprinted phone numbers, Warwick blamed "human error" but said the mistake was made by an outside contractor. He said he didn't know whether the man responsible was fired or not but said, "We probably won't see him in the building anymore."

what a waste of time that was.

Heat 03-23-05 09:02 PM

I loved Carrie Underwood's hair when she was singing the Heart song, then again I guess I'm a child of the 80s. Her hair today (Wednesday), back to flat and straight, was just so dull compared to her hair when singing yesterday.

And the dress she wore tonight looked like a maternity dress.

Anyway, what was that comment that Simon made to Ryan after, I believe, Federov's performance? I can't remember the exact quote, but I just remember thinking "Simon is calling Ryan gay?"

Anyway, my take on the songs was that Mikalah was bad, Federov was OK, and everybody else was good to very good.

he said something to the effect that he wanted Anthony to have more sex appeal, not for him but for Ryan.

"Lackof character" is the discription of his character.

Seacrest ... Gay !

Caliking 03-23-05 11:06 PM

I agree that Mikalah was horrible but man...Federov is amazingly awful to me. He seems so sharp all the time it hurts. However, Mikalah needs to go but I just can't wait for Fed to go bye.

SlingshotBandit 03-24-05 03:11 AM

Alright, my long-winded analysis has arrived. I'm student teaching now, and I'm just trying to fit in times where I can share feedback with you guys.

Breakdown:

Anthony Federov -- Anyone notices his neck when he sings? Looks like he's a trachiotomy (sp)? In my opinion, it was a very weak performance. He's got good stage presence, and is really comfortable when singing, but he didn't sing the verses well at all. The choruses were pretty good. But overall, not that great.

Carrie Underwood -- Damn, you go girl!!! That was, hands down her best performance. She looked like a lost, innocent deer singing with the new fashion style and hairdo for the song. I agree with the guy who posted that she sent chills down my spine. Although I wouldn't say that was the best performance we've heard from the bunch since the pre-final 12 (that distinction goes to Anwar's "What A Wonderful World"), this one performance is going to carry her far, even if she sucks for the next couple of weeks.

Scott Savol -- Impressed. I think this was his best performance so far. His performance last week was good ("Aint too Proud to Beg"), but this was out of the mold for him. He kind of sounded like John Popper at times, when he was singing "Against All Odds" -- the parts where he injected some vibrato.

Bo Bice -- It was done well. But I don't think that singing this song as good as you could possibly sing it would be great for this competition. You can't shine when singing this song, unless you totally changed the style of it. Bo must feel as if he's really, really comfortable right now. Either that, or he's not stressing winning this thing. He probably feels comfortable just doing what he likes, and if they like it...they like it. If not, then they don't. That's probably his mentality.

Nikko Smith -- This dude was on point. He hits some of the notes pretty effortlessly, while others might take a little more effort -- but he pulled it off with this song. Good song selection. Didn't know this song made it to #1, so I was surprised. But I do have that Sisqo album, and liked it then. Nikko is getting a little better with each performance, so I'm anxious to see his performance next week (if he doesn't get voted off).

Vonzell Solomon -- Has probably one of the most natural, and sweetest smiles I've seen. I think more than anyone in this competition, she's able to sing with little effort to get maximum output. She seems to sing pretty well, effortlessly. With that said, her version of "Best of My Love" was not bad. I think her performance would've shined more if Carrie didn't have that great of a performance earlier in the show. I think she's safe, though.

Constantine Maroulis -- Great command of the stage. Exploits it and then leaves it like sloppy seconds for the other performers to feast on. He can get too theatrical for me at times, and I think he knows he needs to rely on that to survive. Otherwise his vocals aren't going to get him far. Last week's performance of "You Make Me So Very Happy" was his best performance. But this was the next best. At least he's staying consistent. He should be around for about 3 more weeks, at least.

Nadia Turner -- I loved the idea of doing this song and going for the mohawk look. I mean I really liked it. But she didn't sing this song ("Time After Time") well at all. Poor thing. She's in my top 3 faves. I think she's safe, though. (I also think she's hot, but that's inconsequential to rating her performance. Surprised no one else has caller her out as a "hottie".)

Mikalah Gordon -- Ugh. I was the one who brought up how her voice resembled Taylor Dayne. Too bad I'm not that big of a fan of Taylor Dayne. So, even though it wasn't a surprise that she sang this song ("Love Will Lead You Back"), I don't think she should have. First of all, she didn't even come close to singing it as good as Dayne. She didn't even sing it well. Very off-pitch

Anwar Robinson -- I'm dissapointed in his performance. Yeah, he had that "one note", but this song was pretty boring. At least for someone like him to sing. He doesn't seem like he has smooth dance moves on stage. Not that he danced, but his bopping and arm sways looked very akward. I hope he doesn't get voted off, or at least put in the top 3. I truly hope that he comes back next week with something of the caliber of "What A Wonderful World". He's one of my faves, but he keeps picking unmemorable songs.

Jessica Sierra -- Not bad. I'd rate this as the 3d or 4th best performance of the night. I don't think it was as good as Simon said it was. I'm neither a fan or a "hater" of her. But she DOES have a good voice.

Summary:

Best Performance

Carrie Underwood

Above Average

Scott Savol
Vonzell Solomon
Nikko Smith
Jessica Sierra

Average

Bo Bice
Constantine Maroulis
Anwar Robinson (but only because he picked it up at the end of the song, otherwise below average)

Below Average

Anthony Federov
Nadia Turner

Poor

Mikalah Gordon

My Prediction For Who's Out This Week:

Mikalah Gordon

Who I Think Should Go

Mikalah Gordon

(Will probably stick to this format for the next few weeks).

Patman 03-24-05 07:01 AM

Err, dude, Anthony had a trach done when he was child/baby, and it's a miracle that he could talk, much less sing.

I knew what my vote would be before Tuesday's show. I voted it on Tuesday, and voted it again on Wednesday: Jessica. Not because she gave the best performance this week (that would be Carrie), but because she didn't deserve to be in the bottom 3 so soon.

So when is the results show on? What time tonight?

Charlie Goose 03-24-05 09:42 AM

Most likely at 9 eastern, followed by the new sitcom "Shit on a Stick"

iggystar 03-24-05 10:07 AM

MAN, I want to like Nadia! She's got the image that I like the persona that I like, but I can't get behind her because the voice is not there at all.
