When is he ever not a douche?

No, that goes back to Reagan in the '80s. The Moral Majority and all of the other 'TV God" people gained power back then and Reagan was their guy.

How is that an offensive use of the word?

My favorite Maher moment came a few years back when he had Sanjay Gupta on his show. Bill ranted for a few minutes that it was not pathogens that made us sick, but rather immune systems that had been weakened due to poor modern diets. Gupta hemmed and hawed for a minute out of reluctance to embarrass his host, then finally observed that the millions and millions of people who died in the flu pandemic of 1918 didn't lose their lives because of poor diet, but because of a lack of vaccines.
I'm as pro-vaccine as they come, but if that was really his counter-point to Maher, it's pretty weak. Those that died likely had weaker immune systems than those who didn't die. Whether their immune systems were weaker was up for debate. Obviously, a preventative cure like a vaccine would've saved lives.

Re: HBO's BILL MAHER new season

To the people complaining that the show is too liberal-biased -- I'm kind of glad this is the case after the extreme conservative-bias the show used to have as Politically Incorrect. The conservative side was always made up of columnists and pundits. The liberals were usually comedians who were more interested in cracking a joke than making legitimate counter-arguments to the nonsense the conservatives would spit out.

Bill always extends a special "thank you" to conservative guests and remarks on what a difficult time he has booking conservatives for the panel.

I agree with you on the first part where he thanks them for being good sports by responding to the fire, but I've never heard him state he has a hard time booking conservative panelists.

Yeah, he was always thanks them, and two minutes later they all ambush that same conservative, along with the audience.

He's probably right that he has a hard time booking conservatives, but thats because he ALWAYS has two liberals along with himself and the crowd hootin and hollering at everythig that conservative says.

Now Bill will do a conservative 'Affirmative Action' show once a year, with all conservative panelists, but that is even more ridiculous, because then there are no panelists on the other side to debate!

Last week his panel was Andrew brietbart, Amy Holmes, and Seth macfarlane.

Did you not see the word "always," helpfully written in all-caps? It was right before the sentence where coli explained that once a year, Maher does have conservative guests (but only once a year).

Most conservatives don't want to have anyone ask difficult questions that might end up in one of them admitting that they used to dabble in witchcraft.

When they have Fox News to make you look good or brilliant, why risk going on Bill Maher to try and make your case? Even the independents that watch Maher's show are going to come away with a more negative impression of the more notable conservatives, so Bill is stuck with either none or pretty much the same silly conservatives that just seem to enjoy being on tv.

Not that I think Bill's liberal panel is much better. Even new rules are far more hit or miss than they used to be. It's probably a safe show on HBO, but it's not a very good show most weeks anymore IMO.

The fact that he used it at all, and the whole 'republicans/tea partyers are racist' bit.

Then you haven't been paying close enough attention. He says it often.

It's not offensive to use the word ni**er, if the point of its use is demonstrating that the word exists.

Yeah, because when teabaggers call him a monkey and a loud tribesman they aren't thinking of race at all.

He has never said all republican/tea party members are racist. He says "Ask a racist what their party affiliation is and they'll no doubt tell you Republican."

It seems to me that liberals bring up race far more than any other single group. Like the girl raising money for the black panthers in Gimme Shelter, "they're just negroes you know". Backhanded racism.

You don't have a more current example than Gimme Shelter?

I think there is a video floating around of the LAPD beating Rodney King from the early 90s.

Zach Galifianakis smoked a joint live on tonight's show. Considering it was a also a show featuring a former president (Carter) that was more than a little unusual.

Yeah that was hilarious! And Margaret Hoover's weird laughs afterwords were awesome.

Glad that unlike previous seasons, Maher will be hosting a show after the election whereas before, this would be the season finale.

O'Reily will be on next week after the election. This week Margaret "I may not like what she says, but I love the way she says it" Hoover who is a Fox political pundit on O'Reily's show (and quite the "hotbox") was on. These people didn't look like they had their arms twisted.
