Re: HBO's BILL MAHER new season

Maher can have some good points, stated with righteous aplomb, but far too often his pet causes (religion, diet, etc) obscure these points and pollute an otherwise clear thesis.

Maher usually only loses me on the topic of drugs. Everything else I tend to agree with his POV but also understand he's putting on an entertainment program. I know he says a lot of shit that I'd like people to hear from somebody, so for me he's got that going for him.

Re: HBO's BILL MAHER new season

I said this a while back in a Maher thread, but I think it still holds true. My biggest problem with him in the interviews is that if he finds himself sympathetic or agrees with the guest then he usually softballs and rolls over like a kitten.

If he dislikes your viewpoint, he's a kind of a prick during the interview. Case in point, a few years ago he had Ron Paul on twice. I'm not going to make this political, but the first time he had Paul on it was pretty much Maher and DL Hughley making fun of him. Then Paul had that moment in the debate so Maher had him back and fawned all over him. I know he would like to have more conservatives on, but he's very culpable in his inability to get them to come on the show.

I use to watch Maher's show as kind of a counterculture thing to challenge myself with opposing viewpoints. I now find I agree with most of things he says.

Rosie O'Donnell was the same way on THE VIEW. I've seen this type of behavior growing up and they were always liberals who acted this way. They can't understand you don't see it their way and get upset.

I don't know if that's supposed to be directed at me or at other members of this forum, but Maher is really annoying about it and just comes off as dick-ish. Plus I think its just the fact that he has his own show to go off on his little tirades is what makes it more annoying.

Yep, only liberal commentators act like asshole-ish know-it-alls who think only they are right. Can't think of any conservatives who act that way.

I have no problem with most liberals I just think Maher tends to be one of the more annoying ones.

The reference to him losing his ABC show over 9/11 comments was because he said we (the US) were cowards for using guided missiles and the 9/11 hijackers were anything but cowards.

Maher isn't a truther, in fact he's had a few runnins with them. At one point he had a "New Rule" telling truthers to stop asking him to bring it up on the show and instead ask if they need their meds adjusted. A few weeks later he had to throw a bunch of truthers out of his audience when they interrupted his taping.

I agree. No matter what your politics, you can't argue that wasn't some pretty powerful stuff.

I didn't know a lot about the cover up stuff surrounding Pat's death, but if all that stuff is true... It sounds like a plan to create a national hero thru murder for use as propaganda and national morale. That would be utterly disgusting.

He was fired for being politically incorrect on a show called... Politically Incorrect. Oh, the irony.

Re: HBO's BILL MAHER new season

During the panel, I was waiting for Bill or anyone else to bring up the Andrew Breitbart manipulated video of Shirley Sherrod's speech at the NAACP dinner. I was really surprised and disappointed that it was never brought up or mentioned by reference since Breitbart was so vocal during the show. WTF?

Indeed. I think it wasn't so much what he said, but when he said it. I believe that show was in the days or within a few weeks of the attacks, and with them still pulling bodies, no one was in the mood to hear Bill's point.

Re: HBO's BILL MAHER new season

I thought that bit with Politically Incorrect and Christine O'Donnell was pretty funny. "Those girls should know that keeping their virginity is very important...But in the ass is ok!" lol
