Re: Real Time with Bill Maher (2012)
I got a kick out of the part when Maher said he agreed with using drones, despite previously speaking against them.
It's funny how guys like Maher and Stewart try to present themselves as "independents" when they fall in line with major party policies constantly.

Re: Real Time with Bill Maher (2012)
I wouldn't mind seeing a Frum show. Make it an hour once per week.
Maher did mess up his telling of the story -- repeatedly. I was waiting for someone to correct him. From what I've read (before the show), the guy didn't vote at all. But she's a psycho getting way too much attention because they live in AZ, a state where Romney won by like 200k votes. She didn't seem to get that Romney winning that AZ by 200,001 votes wouldn't have made any difference.
It's not that simple. The underlying idea is that while she didn't think Romney was the perfect candidate, she thought he was better than Obama, and thus wanted him to win given the 2 choices available. There's nothing new or even notable about this. I saw Newt Gingrich on... I think it was The Colbert Report and he was asked about all the negative stuff he said about Mitt Romney during the primaries, then supporting him against Obama. He simply said he believed Mitt was a better choice than Obama, which makes sense as an explanation.
Hillary Clinton basically called Obama a naive young man spewing illustrious rhetoric he'd never be able to deliver on during their primary battles, then went to work for him when she lost to him.
Where are you getting this from? I know Maher, specifically, does not try to present himself as an independent. From the few times I've watched the Daily Show, I didn't see any evidence Stewart does either.
It seemed like Maher twice screwed up telling the story about the buy who got run over by his spouse 'cause he voted for Romney (which didn't make sense in the story's context). I think he meant that his wife ran him over because he didn't vote for Romney and conceivably voted Obama.

And, although Bill Maher is more of an "Anti-Republican" (of the current-day GOP) than some sort of "Party Line Democrat", I can think of a million reasons why Bill Maher could be considered a "Democrat" instead of considered an "Independent" (...and each of those reasons is exactly one dollar).

I've always looked at Maher as Democratic leaning but he doesn't always necessarily agree with everything they do. Stewart seems the same from what I watch of him. They both obviously are a bit more left biased but at the same time I don't think either of them is afraid to call a Democrat on their shit if they mess something up which is something you rarely see from hosts who are more right leaning.
Good finale though. I always enjoy Michael Moore and it was fun having Eric Idle on even though he didn't add a ton to the discussion really he was still kind of funny. The rest of the panel was okay as well, but the only one who kind of bothered me was Ana Navarro as she just came off stupid. I agree with others that her whole "you do things for your party" line was just idiotic. It's going to suck having to wait for January 18th for new episodes of the show. This show has kind of fallen into my Friday schedule and is pretty much the only show I watch regularly on Friday's.

Seriously. Don't give me this "You do things for your party" crap. That's like Gingrich's excuse for his affairs: "I loved my country so much I did stupid things".
If you didn't really like Romney as your candidate than say so and if you don't like what he stands for, don't vote him.
And you wonder how everyone actually saw through the lies and voted correctly in Ohio. You're so desperate to get the win you'll put an idiot up there. That is NOT how you support this country.

Re: Real Time with Bill Maher (2012)
Ann Navarro is a Latina conservative. She's aware there's an element within her party who look down their nose at her and people like her. She's also aware there are many conservative values she thinks are good for the country. So she aligns herself with the Republican party and attempts to participate in a charge to marginalize the fringe elements.
Any leader knows you have to be accepted to lead. Sometimes that means you have to swallow a few bitter pills -- at least for awhile. If you want your 10 conservative ideas to take prominence, you might have to put up with your candidate also placating a few ideas you don't support. Some of them might be downright disgusting to you. But if the alternative is a candidate who doesn't even support the other 10 ideas you hold dear, you may have to grin and bear it. Of course in a perfect world, you'd have a candidate who embraces the 10 good without the few bad.
When Romney lost, all I saw her saying is, "If you really have to hold your nose to talk about my people, you weren't the right guy in the first place. And yeah, I pretty much knew that, but you were better than nothing."
There are many Hillary Clinton supporters who feel the same way about Obama. During the primaries, he had the least liberal of all the universal healthcare plans. And you know that charge about Romney not revealing any details on his plans? Well, I can only imagine the Obama administration was quite experienced with that attack as it was often used against him during his first run. (I think he was the last major primary candidate to reveal a Universal Healthcare plan).
Perhaps I'm overly forgiving of Ann Navarro because I think a good conservative party is a good thing for the country. I want the exclusionary elements of the party marginalized. I want people like her to stand up and say, some of the ideas presented by the Rush Limbaugh's of the world do not represent the ideas of all conservatives. Because those are the types of conservatives I know.
I don't know ultimately where the Republican party will go, but I embrace the concept of compassionate conservative. I could embrace a party that says, "You know, we can't just open our borders because we can't support it, but we understand hard-working people wanting to come to America to better the lives of their families."
BTW, as much as Ann Navarro talked about her disappointment in Romney, Bill also talked about his disappointment in Obama. They essentially did the same thing. Bill said he bit his tongue during the campaign so as not to confuse the issue (the issue being Obama is better than Romney in his mind).

I'm looking forward to the show returning. He needs to get Colin Powell on to talk about how some segments of the Republican Party was him "excommunicated".

For the 1/18 episode I predict that creekdipper will complain that the host was too liberal and write at least a hundred paragraphs about it that nobody reads.

Yeah, Rula Jebreal is hotter than fucking hell. If she was an atheist, she'd be a total package.
