smokedragon - welcome to the Buffy-verse. Hope you enjoy your stay. It's a fanastic place to be.

They were supposed to release the first season on DVD this past January, but they only released it in Region 2. I think they actually have first and second season.

I was hoping they would have the brains to release it for Halloween, but it doesn't look like that will happen either. I guess there's still hope for X-mas, but that's not looking too good, as I think they would have advertised it by now.

There is no shame in this. Many of us did the same thing. Luckily, I have friends who directed me into the show early enough that I didn't miss anything. And luckily, I'll give any show with hot chicks in it at least one chance. I think the conversation went like this.

"Duuuuude, you have to watch Buffy!"
"Don't think so ... saw the movie ... not gonna happen!"
"But she's so hot, dude!!!"
"Hmm? Well ... um ... maybe just *one* episode."

And the rest is history

Broadband is Satan. May they rot in hell.

I was in the same boat. Saw the movie cause I like Donald Sutherland and Rutger Hauer. HATED IT!!!!! So, I didn't bother with the show. Our local WB affiliate was showing it on Saturdays around four or five. Right before DS9 and I caught part of an episode with Armin Shimmerman. I really like him so I watched a bit. Thought the show was okay. Still didn't pick it up for a while after that. Some friends that are into Highlander (so am I) told me about it. Jumped on the bandwagon at the end of season two and have been on-board ever since.

Just wanted to comment on a question asked a while back. According to F/X's website, they will be showing at least seasons 1 and 2 in order. After that, I don't know. Since the show is in syndication now, do they have the rights to all seasons? Or just a certain number of them? It'd be cool if they showed all 5 seasons on there. Oh, and just for the record, I've been a Buffy-nut since the end of season 2. Glad everyone here is on board.

Hey, when Buffy started, my local cable provider didnt have a WB station. And, by the time I got the WB, it was known as the "Black Sitcom Network", so I never watched it, and figured Buffy was just some throwaway fantasy show for teenagers based on a bad movie... Then I got sick. I was stuck in front of the tv and I watched the episode where the swim team goes all Creature from the Black Lagoon ("Go Fish"-Season Two, but I saw it as a rerun during the third season)). I thought, "Hey, this isnt half-bad." And, during the third season summer reruns, I began to watch it sporadically, until I was hooked.

FX showing these early seasons is a godsend. Even though from watching the episodes, I know what will happen,...actually seeing it happen is just as invigorating. Finally after all this time I'll get to see this, and that, and this, and the episode where 'blank' was introduced, and the one they keep talking about, and, so forth.

Das - I'm new to the Buffyverse too. I started up in mid season 5 and have seen season 1.

About the spoiler, although I occasionally have looked at spoilers, I have recently stopped. And about Jase's Season 6, episode 1 spoiler, I assure you it's false so don't worry about it. I won't go into detail but nothing of the sort happens. So, although you have been "spoiled" you haven't really.

Welcome ... and thanks for the info. I've had the 6th season premiere here on VHS for about 2 weeks now, but I refuse to watch it. There are always last minute changes, and I'd hate to not be able to talk about it with people for 2.5 weeks .

However did you get it so early? If you care to share it with a fellow tv fanatic, my vcr is always open.

Haha ... trust me, you don't want to see an advance copy of a television program. It might be ok now, but keep in mind it's almost two weeks old. Things to consider:

Had I watched it when I got it, I'd have to wait about 4 weeks for the next episode.

Also, they don't completely finish the episode until about 8 days before it airs. So one of these network promos will inevitably be missing something. Like the scene will be going along and you'll see a screen that says "Buffy looks left" for 2 secs or some sound effects may be missing like the fancy sound when a vampire disintigrates.

Little things, but as is evident by now, I'm big on watching precisely what's intended to be seen. I can go back later and check preproduction stuff out, but for the first time, I want the vision intended for me.

As for how I got it, classic friend of a friend of a friend. I actually got it for a friend of mine, who would be a friend of a friend of a ... you get the idea. But I just passed it along painfully without watching it. Trust me, though ... it's better this way.

Okay, I went to Tvguide.com and did a search for Buffy to see when it was showing in my area and what channel.
Fox 8 is showing Buffy at 11pm this Sunday. But, guess what. According to the episode guides online they are showing the first episode from the THIRD season!
I could not believe it.I just couldn't believe it.
Fortunately, WUAB is showing the first episode from the first season next Saturday.
Why is Fox 8 doing it this way?Anyone care to give me an idea?

It looks like two episodes a week are being sent out for syndicated airings. First season eps on Saturday, third season on Sunday. I don't know why your station isn't airing both episodes, but the third season one seems to be common to most areas.

Wow, I didn't realise there were so many Buffy fans in here. I try to keep my addiction quite as I generally get lots of abuse. I'm really looking forward to the new series but I'm not sure when we will get it. Sky is normally about two weeks to a month behind the US so if you don't mind I'll just share in you're excitement. Sky have been running series 1,2,3 and 4 while we are waiting and the BBC are showing series 5 currently, add in the DVD's are we've got it pretty good at the moment. I'm also a big Angel fan, is there a separate group for this?

I think there is another thread for Angel but everything seems to get mixed up so it's no big deal. How many seasons are out on DVD over there?

I'm only getting ONE weekend show here, on Saturdays, starting with season one.... No Season 3 stream... No FX... And a nearly random schedule for the *only* showing, thanks to weekend sports...

First ep was at 6pm Sat, second ep at noon the following Sat... Thank god for my new TiVo, although I bought a measley 14hr to do a hard-drive upgrade, and now I can't afford it...

It's gonna be slow going, *sigh*...

Well fortunately, I get to UPN stations. One from Boston and one from New Haven. The New Haven one has Buffy back to back on Sunday's. I got Welcome to the Hellmouth and Anne this weekend. I'm kind of burnt on WTTHM as I've just about worn out the tape, but I hadn't seen Anne in a while and there were some good lines there. I'm a happy camper.

My big question is this: Joss and Tony Head are supposed to be developing a new show for the Giles character. It's going to be done in England. I wonder if BBC America will carry it? If not, I'm going to be bumming.

adamblast - yea, my boytoy gave me his old replay when he got a new one. Mine is 14 hours. He's in the process of getting me a larger hard drive. I think I'm going to need it.

I was under the impression that this show was all ready to go on BBC 1 and would be airing shortly, but that it may be quite a while before BBCA gets it. But I haven't heard much about it during the last few months, so who knows?

We got WTTH late Saturday evening and Anne early Sunday afternoon here. The picture quality was pretty weak on our local station, so I'll be waiting until FX hits season 3 to tape the episodes.

Can any of our Brit friends comment on whether or not the new show with Giles is set to air there?

Well, I did a little checking, and it looks to be further behind now. The original plan, I thought, was to have a short 6 episode show that chronicled Giles' times in Britain between seasons 5 and 6, but it now looks like Tony Head is ready to leave the show, since there's little for his character to do. I remember there was talk about BBC wanting to do a 6 episode show, but wanting to also sell it in America and fighting the fact that America would like 22 episodes. Then there was talk about doing feature length episodes in Britain that would split into hour long episodes here in the US.

Who knows what's really going on now, suffice it to say that it appears the show won't be on the air in the immediate future.
