Maybe because Paramount+ and Discovery+ are two entirely different services.

You're right, I meant I subscribe to HBO Max and have no idea what either of those two pics are for. My apologies (I assume one is from HBO Max and one is from Discovery+, right?).

I assume the Discovery one was a 90 Day Fiancée and maybe the HBO one is Euphoria (which I have zero desire to ever watch).

The HBO Max still is from Gossip Girl 2021

Still had no idea about them.

I have HBO Max. I'd love to be able to watch old episodes of Mythbusters and Dirty Jobs if those come with the merger. If they raise the price, though, I'm out.

re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

So I have HBO Max through DirecTV and Discovery + through a $59 1/year promo with a free Amazon Firestick that I got a few weeks ago.

Now I'm confused what happens with this.

I have to believe that the price will go up for the merged service a few bucks. I know a lot of you guys are tight with your entertainment money and any kind of "price increase" will annoy you. But, even if HBO Max went up to $19.99/month, it's still a good value.

Fuckin' $19.97 a month is all I'll go or I'm OUT.

I watched a couple episodes of Euphoria and never went back.

They could use the Discovery content as an excuse to raise prices but many would say they’re being charged more for stuff they don’t want. Anything above $15 is pushing it, my parents are still getting Netflix but I wouldn’t blame them for dropping it as it just isn’t worth that much. Still think I’d go with HBO if I could only have one service. They just have the best mix of old and new movies, high and low brow stuff.

It's a good value unless you didn't want Discovery+ stuff in the first place. But I don't think they'd go up to 19.99 a month, good value or not they would get mauled, I think.

I honestly think HBOMax will keep pricing where it is, at least for another year or two, just in an effort to get subscription numbers up. Of course, it sucks if you have Discovery + now but have zero interest in HBOMax.

I refuse to feel sympathy for anyone with Television taste that bad.

I only watched the Pilot episode, but I'm not surprised that nobody in this forum watched the new Gossip Girl that was that still in that tweet (and didn't know what show that was). I don't think that show really had any buzz at all.

and of course this forum is mostly comprised of Middle Aged men.

Has anyone here watched Degrassi: The Next Generation? All 13 seasons were added to HBO Max. I know it’s a Canadian high school drama and I guess it was pretty popular.

haven't watched it, though I do remember seeing an episode or two of the original on public broadcasting, way back in the day. I hear the next generation frequently features Neil Degrasse Tyson as a guest star who floats in, tells all the highschoolers how insignificant they are, and then floats out again.

Oh you’re just being facetious because of his name

I’ve heard about the series over the years, but since it was Canadian I never had access to it. And I guess this second series lasted much longer than the original 80s series. 13 seasons is a lot to watch. I was just curious if anyone here happened to see it.

Ooh, I would watch it for that reason alone.

I watched the original series some when it was new or newly syndicated when I was a kid. Our PBS station (in Dallas-Fort Worth) aired it.

I'm Canadian and have never watched any of the DeGrassi shows, I couldn't give less of a shit about them. Like E Unit above, most of my knowledge of the show also comes from Kevin Smith.

I was wondering if it was the Canadian 90210. Maybe I will check it out sometime after I get caught up with all the current things on.

Jay and Silent Bob were on the show or a special episode.

 I've always assumed it was kind of like a Canadian 90210 and I'm probably just not the right demographic for the show.

Nickelodeon imported it for the states for Teen Nick. It’s much more tame than 90210.

re: Max — Warner Bros. Discovery streaming service

Degrassi goes way back. I remember watching it when I was a teen, I think, one of the earlier series. Definitely not quite as soapy as 90210 or a lot of the teen-drama/soaps nowadays, but still covering a lot of serious topics in a respectful way, while still being a good show.
No idea about the more recent series, so sorry, not much help here :)

I was a little disappointed in Our Flag Means Death. I like Waititi's stuff, and I just finished rewatching Flight of the Conchords which is great, but maybe Rhys Darby isn't lead material? I'll watch a couple more episodes to see if it's just the pilot doesn't have its sea legs (ha!) but I'm not optimistic.

Ghosts is great, we couldn't even get into the American version but blitzed through the BBC eps on HBOMax.

LorenzoL 03-27-22 05:05 PM

Re: HBO Max — Warnermedia streaming service

The original and the Next Generation Degrassi is nowhere as slick or soapy as 90210. I’m not sure how it holds up but even when it was airing when it debuted, you can tell it was a Canadian production.
I’m referring to Next Generation as the original is definitely dated.

It's been crossing the news wires all day, but a bunch of Warner Media and HBO Max executives are getting canned today because the merger with Discovery is close to being final.

Agreed.

Just cancelled Discovery+ after 6 months promo. Just nothing much, besides a couple paranormal shows, that interests our household. I really hope they keep HBO Max as a separate streaming app.

And not charge extra for it.

The Apple TV app was recently updated but it still sucks. I've been using Kodi on the NVidia Shield lately for HBO, Netflix, Disney, Hulu and Paramount- very minimal interface that doesn't insult me during any of the content.
