Discovery. Not Disney.

I think you're confused. I was using Disney+ w/ Nat Geo content as a comparison, as Warner will want HBO Max w/ Discovery content to be competitive. I assumed the whole reason to buy Discovery was to shutter Discovery+ and roll everything into HBO Max.

I agree with your reasoning and conclusions, except for this part. It was Discovery that bought WarnerMedia, not the other way around.

I don't believe one company "bought" the other. It was a merger.

The boards of both AT&T and Discovery have approved the deal, but it will still have to be signed off by regulators. The deal is an all-stock transaction, which will see AT&T receive $43 billion in a combination of cash, debt securities, and debt retention on the part of WarnerMedia. AT&T shareholders will receive stock worth 71 percent of the new company, while Discovery’s shareholders will own the remaining 29 percent. https://www.theverge.com/2021/5/17/2...erger-spin-off

Ugh, my bad. It's sad to see AT&T still controlling so much of the company after they destroyed so much of it over the last 5 years. Hopefully, they stay hands-off with the day-to-day and Discovery is a better steward. And the new company name, Warner Bros Discovery? Stupid.

I just noticed last night on HBO Max the new 4K director's cut of The Outsiders: The complete novel is now on HBO Max. There's 22 minutes of new footage and an intro from Francis Ford Coppola.

It was just recently released on digital.

I don’t think this director cut is new.
The Complete Novel edition has been on home video for awhile now as far as I can recollect.

Whats interesting is HBO putting this up as 4K and Dolby Vision.
I think this might be the first non HBo premiere to get that treatment!

Welp looking at it now on Atv4K this is not triggering the DV but it is tagged as 4K.

It's a new 4K restoration and just came out this year. Here are the details.

Good call. Added to the queue. It's in DV, as well. The 4K disc only has HDR.

I'm guessing this is an error because Harley Quinn has now made it's way to TNT, which has to edit content for basic cable. I'm guessing the TNT version got sent there by mistake.

It needs any publicity it can get. I found it to be unwatchable. Wonder Woman 1984 is a masterpiece compared to HQ: BOP.

A Staircase limited dramatic series? Cool, though that story is so well known now I wonder what there is to tell.

Lots of good stuff in that trailer.

I'm guessing a lot of people who watch the Staircase series won't be familiar with the documentary - I only became familiar with it myself when it got its updated episodes a few years back.

All 7 seasons of the CBS show The Mentalist was just added. I'm impressed with the slowly bigger library of WB TV shows they are adding.

I liked The Mentalist when it aired. I did miss some of the final episodes of the final season, so I may catch up at some point.

So HBO customer service got back to me shortly after my last post in the summer and said they would look into the issue. I tried again several times after that and the HBO Now gift cards still would error out. Frustrated, I mentally wrote off the gift cards as a loss and forgot about them. Fast forward to the end of December, my girlfriend and I agreed to split HBO Max's annual sub deal. Before pulling the trigger, I thought "let me give the gift cards one last try." Only this time I figured I'd try it on yet another fresh browser and downloaded Brave. It worked! I didn't see the option for the cheaper ad-supported tier, so I'm good only until late February with this card. (Two more unused cards to go.) Hey, it saved me theater admission for the new Matrix movie, so that was a massive plus. Ha.

HBO Max's catalog is very impressive. Can't wait until the Righteous Gemstones comes back and I have been itching to watch the Woodstock 99 doc ever since I heard online chatter about it when it came out. The Other Two is a pretty funny show. Gonna find time for the JL Snyder Cut and see what the hubbub is all about. Priority was starting The Wire, though. I'd been avoiding it for years despite pleas from friends and relatives. Honestly, the near deafening praise was annoying. (See also: Hamilton, Radiohead, etc.) But my girlfriend and I are going to the Ravens/Steelers game this weekend (my first ever live NFL game!) and she joked I should get some local Baltimore flavor beforehand. So we binged the first season last week. Good show! I'll definitely proceed the remaining four seasons.

HBO Max Drops Subscription Price: Save 20% Off Monthly Plans

For a limited time, new and lapsed customers can choose between ad-supported and ad-free tiers starting at just $7.99 a month (regular $9.99) for the first year. The ad-free plan is discounted to $11.99 a month (regular $14.99) for the first 12 months. Both tiers allow users to stream tons of content and create up to five separate profiles, but with the ad-free plan, customers have the option to download titles to watch them offline and stream certain movies in 4K UHD.

The special promotion ends on Jan. 25 and does not apply to existing customers. The plans will automatically renew at the regular monthly price after the first year.

Not to derail the thread but on YT, there's a recent clip upload of the infamous bus scene in Nobody (premiering on Max soon) in full 4k.

It's such an astonishing, breathtaking and beautifully choregraphed scene...gets me every time I watch.

Because lack of 4k isn't a deal breaker for nearly anyone. I wish they did too. I will say Peacemaker 1st episode, even in 1080p, looked hella good.

I don't think that's true anymore. If it was none of the other streaming services would be offering any new programming in 4k, but they all do.

Peacock is straight 1080p for everything. Halloween Kills was 1080p as were the Olympics. All of their original shows are 1080p.

Yet, you could watch the Olympics in 4K via some cable providers. And even Discovery+ offers 4K content.

Halloween Kills was updated to 4k/DV on Peacock at some time in the past month (I think Peacock only has 2 theatrical titles in 4k, that’s it).

But I’m talking about major streaming platforms, Netflix, Prime, Hulu, D+ and even Paramount+ Now (along with a few others). Frustrating when WB themselves was offering 4k content through their DCU platform yet the same content is only HD on HBO. They have the content, all their new shows are mastered at least in 2k, so it will be only a matter of time. Not sure why they’re not moving faster, it’s not like they don’t have the money.

How many people do you personally know that ditched HBO Max because of lack of 4k? I know of none. I am sure there are some out there somewhere. That number is probably very small. But it just isn't something average Joe Sixpack is going to bitch about and cancel his service.

Most of the movies I've watched on there have been 4K (the newer stuff), so I'm not too upset about anything. I get why some people are though.

Peacemaker has been fantastic so far and The Last Duel was added today - neither is in 4K though.

HBO MAX has a few movies in 4K DV/Atmos but ZERO 4K content for their TV Shows. Peacemaker is HD & 5.1.

I hope this changes soon, because it'd be nice to have 4K DV/Atmos for their series. I mean if Hulu can do it, HBO MAX can to.
