Re: Disney+ streaming service
I think Disney is being pretty shitty given the situation, but at the same time if I had been that person and had a food allergy and I didn’t know for sure I probably would have avoided whatever it was she had. Either way though Disney should just pay out. The guy isn’t asking for a huge amount.

Disney has withdrawn its claim that a man could not sue it over the death of his wife because of terms he signed up to in a free trial of Disney+.
Jeffrey Piccolo filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Disney and the owners of a restaurant after his wife died in 2023 from a severe allergic reaction following a meal at Disney World, in Florida.
Disney had argued the case should instead go to arbitration because of a clause in the terms and conditions of its Disney+ streaming service, which Mr Piccolo had briefly signed up for in 2019.
But, following a backlash, it has decided the matter can now be heard in court.
"We believe this situation warrants a sensitive approach to expedite a resolution for the family who have experienced such a painful loss," Disney's Josh D'Amaro told the BBC in a statement.
"As such, we've decided to waive our right to arbitration and have the matter proceed in court."
Disney says it is in the process of submitting a filing to the court to withdraw its call for arbitration.

That's cool, benevolent Disney shooting it's shot in open court. But I really feel like we need to start looking at a way to ban this "Arbitration" bullshit. It seems it mostly benefits Corporations and Employers...

Disney is usually pretty good at keeping stories out of the news qhen someone gets killed at one of their parks. 'member when an alligator ate a kid at Disney World about ten years ago?

With the new rates... I'm paying $99/year for Hulu (with ads) and $3.99/mo for Disney+ (no ads).

Someone interpret this for me, specifically the bolded part
Does this mean the Disney+ bundle is going away? Sure reads that way to me, but it is confusing.
Edit: ok seems like it is still included. Just if you make changes, it will go away. Apparently they sent similar email in 2023 when the price changed. Awful wording.
You are currently subscribed to the Disney Bundle. Beginning October 17, 2024, the Disney Bundle (Disney+ (No Ads), Hulu (With Ads), ESPN+ (With Ads)) will increase from $18.99+ tax per month to $21.99+ tax per month.
If the Disney Bundle is an included feature of your Verizon plan (Play More or Get More Unlimited), there will be no changes to your bill until your next billing date after it is no longer included, on or after October 17th, whichever is later.

Yeah you get to keep it as long as you don't cancel or make changes. But Verizon can and will raise your rate in other ways to make up for it.

They've started doing that. Received an e-mail this month about their $10 credit they give for having their payment auto-drafted each month would be changing to $5 soon.

Yes I got that a week or so ago. They raised my plan $4 earlier this year and $5 with the autopay reduction beginning next month. I did the math… free Disney bundle and Apple Music it’s still worth keeping my old plan.

I get the bundle (Disney, Hulu, ESPN) free as part of my Verizon phone plan. They sent me an email a few days ago letting me know my bill was going to go up $3 a month to keep the plan. My plan has been "grandfathered" by Verizon - all their new/current plans make you pay for the Disney Bundle separately/as an add-on, so I'm sticking with my current phone plan as long as I can. The extra $3 is still a great deal on the bundle (Disney is ad-free on it, Hulu is not, but I pay Hulu $6 a month separately to make it add-free).

Re: Disney+ streaming service
We didn’t get much use out of it this year. I’m thinking I’ll probably cancel when the year is up and just do monthly when something I might want to watch shows up. After Paramount+ expires, we won’t have any particular streaming other than YouTubeTV.

Maybe sign up for a new account (only need to use a new email address) on Oct. 15 at the current rate, and just cancel the old account? The only downside is that you'll have to recreate your watchlist and profiles (and lose your viewing history).
Also, as a new account sign-up, you can get $12.50 cashback if you use Rakuten or Topcashback.

I have the same deal (including paying $6 for ad-free Hulu). They raised it $4 earlier this year and the $10 autopay discount is being reduced by $5 next month (Verizon doublespeak for raising it twice in less than a year). I haven't received anything about another $3 increase. Did you get hit with either of those increases?
It is still a great deal as my plan also includes Apple Music and Arcade.

Was the $3 increase email from Verizon or Disney (bundle going from $18.99 to $21.99)? If it was from Disney, your Verizon bill won't actually go up.

There was a similarly worded email the last time Disney raised the price but we kept the bundle.

Yeah, it should be pointed out that the email comes from Disney - Verizon hasn't actually emailed customers, because I don't believe there's going to be any changes (I now suspect even the $3 more won't be charged to such plans). We'll all see come Oct. 17, I guess.
