Re: Disney+ streaming service - November 12, 2019 launch

Blown away on the amount of content on Disney+ After logging in, I spent the first 1/2 hour just scrolling thru.

Already watched Mandalorian and Jeff Goldblum and the first part of Endgame. Only glitch was getting the app installed from the Apple App store... Had to hit 'Get' maybe 15 times before it let me download it. The App store must have gotten hammered especially around dinner time.

I'm giving my niece and nephews a year subscription for Christmas.

Disney+ wasn't automatically loaded onto my LG TV, but I did get a pop-up message telling me it was available when I turned it on. I had ZERO problems on either my iPhone or my LG TV with the service yesterday - I feel bad for those that did. I didn't even have any freezing/slow loading issues.

Re: Disney+ streaming service - November 12, 2019 launch

They should really find a way to notify you when you search (instead of when you click on it) when content isn't going to be available for years. That's really crappy. I understand why, but just don't put it in your search, then, until it is available.

Someone on reddit said that the "recently watched" menu was there before but it was removed, can anyone (who saw it earlier) verify? My resume function works but that assumes I or my kids know exactly what episode we stopped in the middle of because there's not indication that you're in the middle of an episode at all. Or am I missing something?

Introduced my son to the X-men with the 90's cartoon... it did not age well (animation-wise). But whatever, there's no easier way to get him into the characters.

We also watched "Fun and Fancy Free" as a family, and I didn't remember key parts of that show at all, including the slapping as a form of love and the live action ventriloquist puppets. No wonder I haven't seen it on TV in decades. It's called Fun and Fancy Free and yet the openings are beyond depressing for both features.

I'm really surprised that they offer this much 4K content without putting it on a premium tier like Netflix. I do hate though how the app functions differently. For instance if I watch on my Fire Stick, I get 4k/Dolby vision but only 5.1 sound. On my Roku I get 4K/HDR with Dolby Atmos from same program. Weird.

If people are going to talk about content (i.e. from The Mandalorian or anything in general) could it be in spoilers? Would like to keep coming here for D+ info without having stuff spoiled. Maybe another thread to discuss D+ content?

I signed up for the basic sub so I should still be under the 7 day trial based on when it went live.

Am I still able to take advantage of the Verizon free year offer if I change my plan to qualify?

That's 100% bullshit that there should be a premium tier for 4K content. I honestly hope Netflix loses customers as a result of Disney+ solely because of that.

And I also had that same issue. Used my Fire Cube to stream in my home theater, and no Atmos. I moved my 4K Roku, and now I get Atmos.

Disney Plus, the subscription streaming service from Disney, will launch November 12. The Onion takes a look at the biggest features of Disney Plus.

Brand-new original derivative content.

Low initial $6.99-a-month launch price to very quickly triple.

Full access to 60-plus years of advertisements.

Ability to watch Frozen over and over again on new service.

Prime opportunity for more adults to make liking Disney integral part of personality.

Supports up to 10 devices from thankless kids.

Can somehow wring previously undiscovered marketing insights from fact that you like Star Wars.

Everything else AT&T hasn’t bought.

Series of original short films by underrepresented filmmakers Disney doesn’t trust with full movies.

Absolutely nothing the world of online piracy can’t provide.

Ha! I see, yes, to a "non-DVDTalk viewer" they'd probably think that. But then again, the general population probably wouldn't even notice.

Re: Disney+ streaming service - November 12, 2019 launch

Not a bad start but it does need to make some minor improvements IMO. Like when I searched for animated shows, Boy Meets World was listed. Also it's hard not to notice some of the content that is missing already such as Dick Tracy and other Touchstone movies, the Steve Guttenberg/Kirsten Dunst Tower of Terror movie and some Marvel animated shows like the 80's Incredible Hulk and the live action pilots such as Nick Fury and Generation X. Hate to say it but Disney+ will probably cause every streamer to step up their game.

Experiencing odd stuff with the 4k specific content. Currently using a Fire Stick 4k. I haven't had a problem when watching 4k content on Amazon Prime or Netflix. Gonna give it a few days to see if it clears up. If it doesn't, might try a Roku 4k stick to see if it's still happening.

Still trying to figure out Continue Watching. I had to restart/FFW an episode of Agent Carter twice last night.

There's another article that estimates 3.2 million app downloads. Which makes no sense, unless there are just a ton of Verizon customers eligible, or more than 2/3 of the customer base didn't download any apps on day one but still subscribed (I downloaded like 6 apps myself).

Re: Disney+ streaming service - November 12, 2019 launch

Alright, I compared the Roku version of the app vs the Apple TV 4K version. I have both devices.

Couple things I noticed:

1) The Roku version (I have the Ultra) is listing the 4K movies in the description with a HD 5.1 badge. While in the Apple TV 4K version it's listing them correctly with the 4K Ultra HDR 10 badge. Has anyone noticed this? Not sure if there is some kind of glitch in the Roku version or not.

2) and as I said earlier, it seems like the Roku version is missing some extras in at least some of the MCU movies. Most notably Avengers: Endgame. I checked the Apple TV version and it seems to have more.

Movies and shows are playing fine, just those minor details.

Also, how can I check and see if I'm getting a proper 4K stream? That's why I'm confused about why the Roku version is listing the content as HD 5.1. I did a system check and my Roku is giving a 4K stream just fine. Just not sure about D+ though.

You can watch it via web browser without needing to download an app, right?

So if you got in on the 3 year deal and upgrade to the bundle, do you get credited correctly (as in you get credited for the full price and not your discounted price, so you only pay a few bucks)? I've heard conflicting things.

Just wanted to point out why there could be less app downloads than subscribers.

I mentioned that, but that's still a lot less app downloads than subscribers, especially considering a lot of subscribers probably downloaded multiple apps.

I wonder how many people are going to be upset they can't rewatch the Last Jedi. Which would be amazing, people complaining they couldn't rewatch the Last Jedi.

It’s also been a day and a half, so a lot of people probably just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

And it’s cool that we have another thread to complain about TLJ in.

Oh, I meant it was odd because apparently these are people who started their subscriptions but didn't download the app. But I saw that that app download number was like a third party estimate that is probably way way off.

Didn't mean to threadcrap about Last Jedi, I didn't mind it, just making a joke. But it does suck if someone got this hoping to binge all the movies before the new one comes out.

Yeah, I certainly figured that’d be the case but I have Solo and TLJ on disc anyway so I wasn’t paying that close attention to the windows.

That sub-menu needs to be added ASAFP.

Re: Disney+ streaming service - November 12, 2019 launch

The app is not quite there yet as this is only the second day but I'm hoping that Disney will be adding the features below soon.

The "Continue Watching" section was present on the first day but that is gone. Also there has to be a clear indication that the show or movie that you click is already on your "Watchlist" because as of right now, you can't clearly tell whether you are adding or removing it from your list.

My OCD acts up when watching a show, as there's no indication of which episodes, you seen already. That is my biggest pet peeve about the app right now.

This is all on the AppleTV app.
