I'll sit out too. No kids at home, so no reason to see it so soon.

They have since removed that date from the pre-order screen.

Re: Disney+ streaming service
So December 4th is not 100% confirmed? Or did Disney remove the date for fear it would hinder sales this weekend?
A few online movie critics got screeners and watched it and said it's an awesome movie. Someone asked is it worth $30? And one of them said it's basically up to your budget? If you have more than 1 person in your household that wants to see it, then he thought it's worth it. But, if it's just you and your tight on money, then maybe not.

I bet that’s exactly it. And as soon as we discussed that date, pretty much everyone here said they’d just wait. They shot up a lot of potential revenue by putting the regular stream date out there.

I'll say one thing about Disney, they do a great job plastering Mulan all over the service. It's in multiple sections on the frontpage of Disney + and there's no way my kids could miss it.

The next Pixar movie, Soul, is going directly to Disney+. It will not be premium access like Mulan.

The Fox Marvel stuff is now branded as “Marvel Legacy” in the app. They also have a subcategory where you can watch the MCU by Phase or in timeline order.

Re: Disney+ streaming service
I googled the story and it seems like the right move for Disney.
Obviously, the longer you can keep a household subscribed to Disney+, the better. And I mean consecutive month subscription, without breaks. I only subscribed for one month last year, for Mandalorian. But if there is an endless stream of new Star Wars, Marvel, etc content, I would feel compelled to keep my subscription indefinitely.
Has anyone suggested this plan - instead of charging a $30 separate fee for Mulan, what if they required a four month commitment (~$28 total) to Disney+ instead? Another brand new Disney movie? Another $28 four month commitment. So instead of a premium price, you’re “forcing” the member to extend the subscription. Again and again and again...
Eventually, the member will just say, eh...I’ll just keep subscribing. It’s just $7 next month.
Benefit to the member? A "free" movie since the member already plans to keep subscribing to Disney+
Benefit to Disney? You just paid four month's worth right now, so Disney gets that additional money upfront (a free loan for them!)
And if the member isn't interested in paying the $28 upfront for the new movie, the member can see the film without any additional cost in 6 months to a year on the streaming service. Could I wait that long for Star Wars or Marvel films without getting spoiled?
Stupid idea? I just thought of this a couple days ago, when they said Soul will be available without a premium fee.

Disney will disclose the Mulan “experiment” in the next earning report in November.

Re: Disney+ streaming service
The Mulan failure has to do with price point more than anything else. Had it be $15 instead of $30, I bet you Disney would have sold four times as many as whatever number they did (and, hence, made twice as much as they did).

I absolutely would have bit on $15. I know it's hard because if your the studio you know many families would pay more than $30 in the theater, but not singles. Not couples. And not the families that go to a matinee and not all of that $30 goes back to you 100% so it was definitely an overreach. $20 is the top you're going to get out of most people for a premium, premiere movie, maaaybe $25.

Re: Disney+ streaming service
Yeah, I agree, $15 to $20 max is going to be the sweet spot for most people, $30 is too much. It would have to be something I really, really want to see to pay that much (and Mulan ain't it, even my kids were lukewarm on that one and said they can wait).

Re: Disney+ streaming service
Reminder that for many of us our 1year Verizon promo is coming to an end. We have to cancel by the deadline or be charged the monthly fee via Verizon.
My account with D+ still doesn't reflect the appropriate first billing date based on the 1 year free + 3 years prepaid. It is as if we had 2 subscriptions in parallel. So I will be contacting D+ customer service.
Also Verizon is offering to change our cell plan to provide us with D+ for free. If we do that then the 3 year prepaid will possibly be blown money with no return. Will likely discuss that with D+ customer service as well.
Ugh. 1st works issues.

I'm thankful to have gotten multiple e-mails/app notifications about the Verizon promo coming to an end. I watch a few things on D+ but not enough to keep it. My kids, however, are begging me not to cancel. Looks like the annual cost ($70) has a $15 cash back option at a favorite rebate spot. Seems like the best deal going if I want to keep it, but I guess it would require me to sign up as a new customer (with a new e-mail address) when the Verizon promo runs out.

My kids have definitely gotten my money's worth from the first year. Gravity Falls, Phineas and Ferb, a bunch of Disney Channel series like Jessie and Bunked, countless rewatches of Bluey, and not having to put in a disk to watch Marvel Cinematic or Disney classics with them. That said, if I didn't have kids... heck I'm a big enough fan that it's probably still worth it since the MCU stuff is coming soon. Haven't even rewatched Gargoyles or Star vs. yet or caught up on Duck Tales and such.

Re: Disney+ streaming service
Sounds like Disney+ is doing really well, to the tune of 73 million subscribers, not including Hulu and ESPN+. No details however on how Mulan performed. Which probably means not well compared to their expectations.

and it came on 4K and BD this week and no one seems too interested in buying it.

I feel like it was a shadow drop, which is really odd. But I wonder with everything coming to Disney + how their physical media sales are doing in general.

and in case you weren't keeping track, today is the 1 year anniversary of Disney +
I know not all of you have been members consecutively for the last 12 months. For the price I'm paying with the 3 year promo, I've been pretty pleased with it.
