No joke, the app was already installed on my LG TV when I turned it on tonight. Nobody in my family downloaded it.

I can't figure out how to find the 4k versions. I click on Captain Marvel for example but there's nothing to indicate how to select the 4k version. Help?

Re: Disney+ streaming service - November 12, 2019 launch

Unless you want subtitles on all the time, don’t turn them, at least not if you have an Apple TV. I have to turn them off every time I watch a new program. So damn annoying.

Edit: Figured it out. Disney Plus must let your iTunes settings you have for your iTunes movies override what you have set for your settings in the Disney Plus app. Once I turned them off in iTunes, problem solved. Couldn't even remember that I had them on.

So it just plays the 4k automatically if it's available? Because I'm used to my set telling me "HDR On" if it's getting a signal but nothing from D+

Hmmm, not sure why you’re not getting your hdr “badge.” Does it usually display what it is (i.e. Dolby Vision, HDR10) when you start up a program? That’s how mine works with my Vizio.

I just noticed the D+ app also popped up in my Samsung 4K smart TV, which I got in 2016. Wasn't expecting it to pop up in a slightly older 4K TV.

My set isn't Dolby Vision capable, it's from 2015. It just says "HDR On" when I'm playing a game on PS4 or something on Amazon Prime.

Sounds like it might be an issue with the app not recognizing your tv maybe? Hard to say really.

I believe it’s supposed to be 3 to 4 months after the physical media release. So probably early 2020.

Yeah, the old Simpsons looks TERRIBLE. The crop job on this to get it widescreen is awful, characters are cut off at the chin in every close up. It looks like the directors didn't know how to build a picture.

It's like the opposite of getting people on the widescreen train, now people have a wide TH and expect to use every inch of it.

The Simpsons is my favorite show, and I'm pretty disappointed in the presentation. Maybe I have more Alan Smithee in me than I thought.

Re: Disney+ streaming service - November 12, 2019 launch

So far I have watched The Mandalorian, Noelle, and I am going to start watching a film I have not seen in ages, and in HD no less (I think I last watched it on a CED disc)...Swiss Family Robinson. Also, Holy Carp(!), Old Yeller, Escape From Witch Mountain, Pollyanna, The Parent Trap (both versions), The Black Hole, that Darn Cat!, Flight Of The Navigator, Return To Oz, The Love Bug, Gravity Falls, Turner And Hootch and just so many other films/shows...man, my data usage is going to get a workout this month.

Some of the above were only available as Disney Club blu ray exclusives so I have been dying for a chance to see them in HD. Out of all of the Nostalgic films I listed above Darby O’Gill is not on the list but hopefully it shows up soon enough. No regrets pulling the trigger on the 3 year discount deal (I am not a Verizon customer so no free year for me, but I get Hulu free from Sprint so it is all good).

Logging in on an Apple TV 4K was easy peasy and I even verified my account.

One final note, I started watching The Mandalorian on my desktop PC and it let me pick up from where I left off when I played it on my Apple TV. I think I have had issues with the DC Universe app knowing when I have watched a show on another device so the app knowing that I started a program/film on another device is a big plus in my book.

I understand the licensing issues behind it all, but it’s really weird that Endgame is available but Infinity War isn’t. Seems like it should be the other way around, at least.

The later seasons of The Simpsons which were created in HD widescreen are amazing, though. Presentation does matter, and people who care about it are right. Alan Smithee is right up my alley.

No, the directors knew what they were doing. Remember there was a time when all tv's weren't Widescreen. There are easily 10 seasons of the Simpsons that are in its 4:3 aspect ratio. Keep in mind almost every TV show (live action or animated) produced prior to 1999 had a 4:3 aspect ratio. Shows like The Family Guy for example started storyboarding for the 16:9 aspect ratio in 1998 but if you ever watch those episodes from seasons 2 and 3 (when they started formatting for widescreen) you'll notice there isn't anything really going on on the sides of the screens. The backgrounds were made to go edge-to-edge but the "safe" area where the action took place allowed for - the standard tube tv's at the time - to not miss out on anything going on on the screen. Soooo, I'm assuming instead of Disney having everyone complain about the "black bars" on the sides of the screen and a small picture area they chose to crop in. Terrible solution in my opinion.

*edit to add*: one of these days I'll dig through my stuff (and post a picture) when they sent out the new storyboard guide template that included how to storyboard for the impending 4:3 transition to 16:9.

I think you misunderstood me. I'm saying the bad cropjob is what makes it look like the directors don't know what they're doing. That's my gripe.

Looks like the Roku version is missing some bonus features in some of the MCU movies. Most notably End Game.

The deleted scenes without video commentary are not on the Roku version for End Game. The iOS version has both and there’s some missing featurettes on the Roku version as well.
