Looks like new and existing Verizon customers will get Disney+ free for a year.

EDIT: Deftones beats me by a nudge.

Sounds like it's only for folks with unlimited data plans.

I wonder if this would stack with the 3 years many of us bought.

What if you already signed up for a Disney+ promotion? Will Disney extend their promo to those people (yes, I have Verizon Unlimtted, but signed up for the cheapo 3-year plan Disney offered D23 members )

We’ve been Verizon customers for decades, but do not have unlimited wireless, and we've has FiOS service for at least 2 years, so this loyal customer apparently has fallen through the cracks...

This free 1 year promotion from Verizon is making it's way all across the news sites.

I really have to wonder if Netflix is going to counter with something. This has to be putting some pressure on them with this big splash that Disney is making,

Or if they will stay firm on their price points.

Why would Netflix have to reply to that? They are already including Netflix with T-Mobile Unlimited plans (ATT&T has free HBO, Sprint has free Hulu).

Not necessarily for this. But, talking about how their price point is right now compared to Disney and Disney has multiple discounted packages while Netflix has raised their prices twice in the last few years. Not only that, but there stock is taking a hit too.

But, I guess doing something right this minute would probably be deemed as reactive and be bad business. So they could stay firm at what they're doing.

Plus that's actually a better deal because Netflix is more expensive.

The weird thing is, I wonder if getting Disney Plus for free means people would keep Netflix around for longer since they're not paying for Disney Plus (it does seem like Netflix has a larger demographic to pull from that doesn't exactly overlap with Disney +, since Hulu is not included here).

Yeah, Netflix offers a sort-of different demographic. Sure they offer stuff for EVERYBODY, but they are most successful in marketing to teens. Netflix between Stranger Things, 13 Reasons Why, Black Mirror and Birdbox has really owned the teenage corner of the entertainment market. I can't imagine parents of a teenager subscribing to any other service over Netflix. It really has overtaken even movies (excluding MCU) as their primary pop culture reference. It would be like us as teenagers without MTV.

Netflix just asked for another $2 billion in debt for funding...they're in BIG trouble (Apple should buy them if they want to better compete with Disney+).

I would go back to Netflix if they offered a cheaper service of just past movies and tv shows(see Starz Encore).

Offering Ryan Murphy $300M, Weiss and Benioff $300M and Shonda Rhimes whatever mint they offered her was just stupid. They don't need to hire name creators to replicate network hits, they need to make their own original stuff. That is just foolish spending and it's already costing them.

On Disney pluses side, they have many high profile projects coming out in the next two to three years. You don’t hear about them giving out asinine development deals like Netflix.

I have a friend who’s been posting his Netflix stock returns on FB for years. They’re not so good now.

They kind of have an advantage in terms of IPs they own. A small one, sure, I mean Disney, Marvel, etc. are such struggling brands.

Sure they have the IPs, but they didn’t have to give a 9 figure producing deal to a name producer to get it made. Netflix has been handing out 9 figure development deals like their printing money. It’s going to burn them.

Ryan Murphy has a 300 million dollar deal with Netflix. His first show under that pact came out weeks ago. And no one is watching it or talking about it.

Yeah, I confirmed that this morning with Verizon. I would have to up my monthly bill by $26 a month to get a service for “free” that, at most, would only cost me $70 a year if I pay Disney directly annually.

Starting October I'm being charged $2 for Netflix through Tmobile. I haven't called but I figured Netflix raised their prices and Tmobile is still covering just the same amount.

Yes, they sent us all an email about that a few months ago, I believe.
