Late to the party but I just finished May The Devil Take You Too (2020).
Timo Tjahjanto has been one of my favorite Genre filmmakers for (almost) the past decade and I'm glad so many streaming platforms are giving him a place to show his work.

Cancelled my free month and they gave me one more month free. Some good stuff but they're just going to have to up the technical quality if they want me to pay for it. Not always in the mood for horror either.

Sweet. The Phantasm movies are coming back. They were part of a past Joe Bob Christmas marathon and one weekend last December I sat down to enjoy them only to find that Shudder had lost the rights.

I like horror, and more so than a lot of people, but I wouldn’t watch horror movies exclusively for days on end. I like porn too but too much of that gets old pretty fast.
Anyways, last thing I watched on Shudder was a recent low-budget thing shot on video called She’s Allergic to Cats. Wouldn’t call it horror, just weird- and the ending is a punch line.

Elvira Makes Her Horror Host Return with Shudder’s “Elvira’s 40th Anniversary, Very Scary, Very Special Special” [Video]
Published 3 hours ago on September 15, 2021
By Meagan Navarro Shudder proves it’s not messing around with their “61 Days of Halloween” lineup by bringing back the Halloween queen of camp, Elvira!
This year marks the 40th anniversary for the horror host, icon, and Mistress of the Dark, and AMC Networks’ premium streamer is celebrating with a one-night movie marathon event, Elvira’s 40th Anniversary, Very Scary, Very Special Special.
Watch a special tease for the event from Elvira herself, below.
The special debuts on Saturday, September 25 at 8 pm ET in the US and Canada via the Shudder TV feed within the Shudder app and will also be released on demand to all Shudder platforms (US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand) and AMC+ beginning September 27. Similar to the cult classic, late-night television series Elvira’s Movie Macabre, which debuted in 1981, Elvira will lend her own blend of witty commentary to a horror movie lineup that includes Elvira: Mistress of the Dark, House on Haunted Hill, The City of the Dead and Messiah of Evil.
“It’s always tough turning 40, but what better way to mark the occasion than a one-night stand with Shudder, the spookiest of streamers? It’s going to be the ultimate Hallow-anniversa-ween bash, and you don’t want to miss it,” Elvira said in a statement.
Shudder GM Craig Engler added, “Elvira is a legend who’s been lighting up our screens and delighting fans for 40 years, and we’re honored to celebrate the ‘Queen of Halloween’s’ fantastic career milestone with her new ‘very special’ special, the perfect treat for Shudder members this Halloween season.”
What can fans expect from this special Halloween bash? The lineup for the marathon includes:
Elvira, Mistress Of The Dark (1988)
Upon arriving in a small town where she has inherited a rundown mansion, a famous horror hostess battles an evil uncle, and townspeople who want her burned at the stake.
House On Haunted Hill (1959)
William Castle’s gimmick-laden horror thriller is a fairground funhouse come to life. Vincent Price stars as a suave eccentric millionaire married to a beautiful and greedy gold digger. Together they are hosting a party in a sinister haunted house. Five guests are invited to spend the night and each will get $10,000–but only if they survive until morning. The doors are locked at midnight. Will you make it out alive?
The City Of The Dead (1960)
In this atmospheric classic, a professor (horror icon Christopher Lee) sends a student to Whitewood, Massachusetts, the site of 17th-century witch burnings. Once there, she learns the satanic secrets that live on.
Messiah Of Evil (1973)
A young woman goes searching for her missing artist father. Her journey takes her to a strange Californian seaside town governed by a mysterious undead cult. William Huyck & Gloria Katz’s hypnotic, unsettling independent horror is a must-see gem.

I signed up for this for the first time. Is the only audio option really only stereo (or mono)? If so, that's incredibly disappointing. Some kind of surround audio is hugely important for horror IMO. I just can't see myself going past the free trial (and not signing up in the future unless they at least start giving 5.1 audio). Too bad, because they have a lot of good movies in their library (including many exclusives).

Speaking of Simon Barrett, I finally watched his debut feature Seance (2021).
Not sure why Simon Barrett decided this was the script that he would make his debut with. Incredibly disappointing.
I've been a fan of Writer Simon Barrett's work for a long time now, as he's responsible for the scripts of You're Next (2011), A Horrible Way To Die (2010), The Guest (2014) & Blair Witch (2016).
As he's usually worked with Director Adam Wingard, I thought his debut feature would be his breakout, showing that he can indeed both write & direct. Sadly, this film wasn't it.
In comparison to his other scripts, the film is incredibly pedestrian on all fronts, essentially a Horror/Mystery version of Mean Girls (2004). Even Suki Waterhouse phones in her performance and looks bored as hell 85% of the time.

Excited about V/H/S/94 this weekend! Hopefully it'll wash the bad taste of V/H/S: Viral (2014) away.
They assembled a fantastic group of Directors this time around, including one of my favorites in Timo Tjahjanto.
Hoping Simon Barrett's segment is better than his debut feature.

Per Joe Bob email, if you subscribe via AMC+ you can start watching at 9pm Friday on AMC+:
The LDI TWD special on 10/29 will be a bit different because IT’S AIRING ON SHUDDER AND AMC+ AT THE SAME TIME! But since AMC+ does not carry the Shudder live stream, here’s how it’ll work:
▪ Shudder viewers tune into the live stream at 9pm ET on 10/29 as usual
▪ AMC+ viewers find the show at 9pm ET on 10/29 and hit play, then start the 2nd show when the first one ends
