Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

The change won't affect me that much, since I usually DVR my NBC shows. The exception would be Superstore, which I'll go back and watch from time to time. Love that show. Hate to see it leave Hulu.

Hulu is like a kid brother I keep forgetting about. Currently subscribe, but I never watch it ...

I think NBC has a much higher hill to climb in order to remotely get close to Hulu. This won’t really put a dent in Hulu subs.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

What is the deal with a lack of 4K programming on Hulu and the ones they have in 4K are only available on certain select devices?

Everyone seems a little behind on the content side of things. Hulu and Netflix have most of their originals in 4k but everything else varies.

Hulu uses HEVC/h.265 for 4k which still has spotty hw support (looking at you Playstation.) So hardware limitations do exist.

Hopefully the push for the standardized AV1 works out, though everyone that wants 4k would then have to upgrade their devices. (Fire Stick Max and Roku 4k+ aside)

My two months ended today. Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I was able to watch most of them. I think I'll keep Hulu, just trying to decide if I want to do ad-free or ad-supported.

If you’re still undecided, just get the ad-plan now. If you change your mind, you can switch mid-month and the ad-free additional fee will be prorated.

However, you can’t go backwards (ad-free —> ads) because Hulu won’t give a refund. The price change would occur the following month.

This is from my experience in 2019, so double check the help section.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

Is there a legal way to pull clips from my Hulu DVR? Not much info on Youtube, so I'm guessing no legal options.

My cousin is appearing on a game show episode and she wants a clip of her appearance.

Stand in front of the tv and use your phone to record the video

Yes, that's my last resort option. Of course, quality won't be spectacular, but may be my only choice.

Naw, nothing legal unfortunately. Is it one of the broadcast channel shows or like GSN?

Can you call it up on a PC and use a program to record or capture your screen? https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-...dows-pc-or-mac

Thanks, I was researching this and Game Bar blacked out my youtube video test. Makes sense for legal reasons.

It's local CBS daytime game show programming.

I'll just record using my iphone. Thanks for the help.

20th Century Studios plans to have at least 10 movies a year launch on Hulu by 2023.

NBC has terminated its next day streaming deal for its shows on Hulu. You will need Peacock to do it starting in the Fall.

Don't think that is gonna help Peacock get more subs. Cordcutters will still be able to see most things on nbc's website/app and and cable subscribers still can watch on their demand box.

Or Hulu subscribers can simply record it.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

Hulu Live works great for me when watching recorded NBC shows. I can fast forward through broadcast commercials.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

But - as they giveth, they taketh away - if I read the fine print in that email correctly, the length of time you can keep stuff on it is capped at 9 months, whereas previously it was unlimited time (subject to autodelete based on free space.)
Yes, that's long enough for most normal humans, but I've actually got a few things on mine that are that old. With this change, which exactly matches YouTubeTV's DVR (at least as of the last time I looked into it), I may comparison shop again. I'll probably keep regular Hulu because I do like their library and on demand stuff, but I've been at least curious about YouTube TV. I think they had some channels I was interested in that aren't on Hulu.
Hopefully they're doing this to compete with Youtube and not as a precursor to increase prices in the near future.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

I don't need the extra DVR space. I usually hover around 40 hours free at any given.

But what I do want is fast forwarding option on DVR, which is only available as an add-on option (Enhanced Cloud DVR). Well, you can fast forward on DVR programs on certain shows, while others you can't. It's a toss up.

EDIT - reading various articles, it seems Hulu is eliminating the Enhanced Cloud DVR add-on, so maybe the 100% fast forward option will be available for everyone now.

The best option for Hulu Live is to just copy EVERYTHING or exceed YouTube Live. The competitive advantage for Hulu would be their Hulu original content and Disney+. Who would join YouTube Live if Hulu matched or exceeded them?

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

The only NBC shows I currently watch next-day on Hulu are This Is Us and The Endgame, and I know at least one of those won’t be around in the fall.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions

Does anyone using Hulu Live have issues with the app freezing up while on a TV station? Never had problems with the app until signing up for Live. Now the app will freeze up and continue to play audio from the station even when I close it. This has happened on both an Apple TV and Fire Stick.

Nope, using my Roku’s and TCL TV with Roku.
