Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions
So something very weird happened with my account tonight.
Hulu with Live TV was somehow added. I got an e-mail alerting me it was added. I was like WTF? I immediately went to my account and didn't notice any mysterious log-ins in the device history. But, I logged out all devices and changed my password. And I changed my account back to Hulu with no ads. But, since the account was updated around, it said I was stuck with Live TV until next month. I was in a new billing cycle, so I currently have an authorization for my regular subscription and now a $47 for Live TV, which has some small discount. I assume only the $47 charge will stick.
Here's where I ran into a problem. I waited about 30 minutes to chat with someone. They told me that yes an update happened, But they cannot remove the $47 charge. I would have to cancel the account completely, then have them completely delete my email and then dispute the charge with the bank and then if I wanted to, I could create a new account. That's such bullshit. I went back and forth with them and even if I just "cancelled" the month charge is non-refundable and I would technically still have access to Live TV until next month.
I was thinking about cancelling and re-starting, but it seems way more trouble than it's worth and I don't really feel like going through straws with the bank, especially in these times. So I already changed the password and removed all devices and started re-logging in. So I guess I have to eat the charge and enjoy 1 month of fucking Live TV I don't need.

Dispute the CC charge with your CC company.

So I called my bank Wells Fargo and did dispute the excessive charge, which I did not authorize. They were very helpful and basically closed out my debit card and will issue me a new one. They will dispute the $47 charge as fraud and get my money back.
Luckily I have no upcoming recurring charges in the next few days, so I can wait on this.

So Wells Fargo completed their investigation and determined an error on Hulu's part occurred.
They gave me back my $47.
Thank God.

That sucks. Hate that it happens so frequently and some people may not even know.

I really recommend Privacy.com to generate unique card numbers and to set transaction limits for reasons like this. I have a trial plan of Hulu for $2/month for the year. Set it up on a unique card generated just for that purpose and set a $3/month limit on it.
I wish I had done that before I signed up for Shudder ...

I got an email the other day that they are providing a live stream of ABC News Live. I'm on the no commercial plan.

Anyone know why some CBS shows are available on Vudu? I just noticed some shows like Star Trek TOS, is available to see. So I guess they aren’t exclusive to the CBS service?

If you're talking about Hulu, yes some are not all. Those shows licensed to Hulu don't have exclusive deals to stay only on CBS All-Access.

For example, Blue Bloods used to be on All-Access, Netflix and Hulu. Now Netflix dropped it as I assume the license expired.
The licensing for the CBS shows is very confusing. Hulu has some CBS shows that All-Access doesn't carry like CSI. Hulu has the entire series. CBS only carries select episodes.

If you are okay with the 2 channel sound available via HULU on most devices then you can watch all the free HBO content via HULU till May.
If not then you can get 5.1 via the HBO apps if available on your device.

How do you access HBO from Hulu for free? I currently have Hulu w/no commercials.

Hulu is now 5.1 on newer Fire TV, Roku, Samsung TVs, Xbox One, PS 3 and PS 4, Switch, etc so they've definitely covered some ground.

Re: Hulu -- News and Notable New additions
Almost bought an Ultra last couple Black Fridays for just $50. The issue is our wonderful 7.1 AVR will not pass 3D or 4K.
So we'd have to either buy a new AVR to keep the best audio or we'd send the HDMI to TV and then optical compressed audio back to AVR.
Previously thought about buying the earlier Ultra that had a secondary optical output. Same issue though.
While optical cables themselves could carry uncompressed audio, the protocol for the input and output hardware is set such it cannot. So same issue.
This is why we have the paralysis every time we consider upgrading from our Roku 3.

Hulu is rolling out a new home screen to Apple TV and Roku users

A redesigned home screen starts rolling out today to tvOS and Roku devices and should hit all users over the next two months. If you’re using another platform, Hulu says that it should hit most living room devices during the summer. And if you’ve used any other video service lately, the changes Hulu are making should have you feel right at home, though the company is putting its own touches on the experience.
At a high level, Hulu is adopting the horizontally-scrolling trays that all the other major streaming services use. As you scroll up or down, Hulu will present various collections, including expected options like “continue watching” and “unwatched in my stuff.” Those collections will also include a wide variety of recommendations based on your viewing habits.

yeah that looks more cleaner and simpler. The current design is so convoluted.
