That does sound cool. I'd like to blame my hearing, but it's pretty obvious that sound personnel, these days, feel music and f/x need to overwhelm any dialogue, in order to make everything more dramatic.

Oh, and actors like to mumble through their lines, too.

This is a welcome feature. I've certainly had times when I've watched something with the music/effects made the dialogue very hard to hear, and while I don't think it was Amazon's original programing, hopefully, this kind of feature will be adopted/supported by others as well.
Oh my GOD I need this for every service lol.

Yeah there are plenty of shows where the audio mix is awful. Glad to see this and hopefully other streamers follow suit.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

Is anyone actually seeing this? The article states that it is now available worldwide on select English-language Amazon originals, including series “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,”

But I've checked in the browser interface and on my Firestick app, and neither of them give me the option.

*Edit* Okay, apparently it's available on older episodes of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but not the current season. That's a bit strange...

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

Does this only effect people who use the tv speakers and not a sound system or added sound bar?

Ive very rarely used the tv speakers in the flat screen era because I’ve had a sound system installed for close to 30 years now
and bpnever had this problem.

My father who is now 82 has complained about it since he first had a flatscreen tv a dozen years ago or so.

Thanks for the edit. I thought something was wrong because I was checking the new season and it wasn't there. But I checked season one and voila.

Yeah, weird it wasn't on the new season. One would assume.

Amazon Amazon
Now being a Prime member can be even more rewarding.

Between May 19 - May 26, 2023, buy any two Prime Member Deals on Prime Video and you'll receive a $5 Prime Video credit.
The button on the page to Browse Movies takes you to the Video Deals page, so I assume it has to be on there to qualify.

I was tempted, but it has tons of extras on VUDU and none (seemingly) on Amazon, so I figured I'd watch it on Paramount+ for now and buy a copy later in the year on VUDU or Apple TV when a deep sale happens.

It looks like they've added (HBO) Max at half off for two months. (so $7.99 a month)

Which one? Invincible is supposed to be announced at Comicon so I assume they're just waiting for that.

I saw a brief clip of The Boys in there. And I guess Gen V is a spinoff.

However, if you meant The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, note that the trailer says "Coming this year to Prime Video," and the next season of that isn't set to premiere until 2024.

I meant The Boys. I think the clips are all from Gen V spinoff series. So no The Boys S4 until next year at the earliest.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

Yeah, and the fact that they didn't even show a clip of already-filmed stuff in that trailer indicates Amazon doesn't expect the strike(s) to be over in time for a late 2023 season (or, they are planning for a Summer 2024 release anyway).

Oh yeah, I figured the Boys was early 2024 anyway (plus they probably want to concentrate on the spin off for a bit at least)

Everyone is feeling the pinch. Disney+ started ad-free at $6.99/month, now you have to pay $7.99/month for the ad tier, and more for ad-free. And that's for a service that offers only video streaming, while video streaming is only one of several services/bonuses Prime supplies.

If this $2.99 extra would also make all Freevee content ad-free on Prime, I'd be tempted. However, the Freevee content is probably what gave Amazon the confidence to do this for their Prime content; they probably see that most of the Prime users are fine with watching some ads.

It's been mentioned in other threads/contexts, but ads really change the dynamic of the costs and revenue for running a streaming service. For the regular "all you can watch" ad-free subscription, the ideal customer to the streamer is one that pays monthly, but watches nothing. Each additional piece of content watched adds to the monthly costs for that customer, and eats into the profit margin. For free video streaming with ads, assuming the ads shown during a stream are enough to cover the costs and provide a bit of profit, the more the customers watch, the more revenue and more profit they make, but since there's no monthly fee, the revenue per customer depends solely on how much they watch. Having a paid service with ads is the best of both worlds to them, since they are guaranteed a certain amount of revenue from the customers per month, but also, the more content the customer watches, the more revenue they generate, and their profit goes up, instead of down.

The golden days of getting cheap or "free" ad-free streaming of content (I had Prime for the free 2-day shipping before they started offering streaming) are over. They're going to squeeze for revenue from every angle, and anything offering something akin to HBO-level service (ad-free, quality original programming) is going to end up costing HBO-on-cable level pricing ($15-$20 a month).

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

The buffet line is closed.

When you really think about it. Ad-free streaming was never really sustainable, especially with all the costs factored into the creation and acquisition of movies and shows. It's just continuing to get more expensive and is part of the issues the WGA and actors have with the streamers.

I watch Bosch Legacy on FreeVee and honestly it's not that bad.
