I always just grab my phone and check online stuff during ads. So ads are not an issue for me,

On the other hand, they did just add sassy Alexa with a new voice. So there’s that.

Which it seems like you'll have to end up paying for as soon as she's out of beta...

Actually the fine print says it's included with Prime Membership. And $19.99/mo without it!

How come when I go to my FireTV input, it’s automatically showing me live sports games when I never even opened the app? And, isn’t wasting my screen or juice of the TV? I mean it’s odd. I’m not logged in and these events are just playing automatically. Is this normal?

Yes, Amazon products love promoting their streaming sports.

I think I figured out a way to not get interrupted by commercials while watching a movie. If you forward through the movie before really watching it, the commercials stop the forwarding and display. You don't have to fast forward, just skip to a segment after each commercial and the previously skipped commercial will play. Do this until the end of the movie and then start watching it again. The commercials have already been seen so they won't interrupt the movie.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

I used to get two-day guaranteed shipping and no commercials for half of what I pay now (I think). Now, I get commercials and can't get most packages for 6 days, despite one of their depots being 7 miles from my house (I drive by it 6-8 times a week).

Honestly, the only reason I still have it is because I can pay one time for the year and be done. If it was monthly, I would have canceled a while back. Streaming is the only thing I still use, and that is sporadic. A couple of my kids use it and purchase more than I want them to (they both live out in the country, so it is convenient). My wife does e-books, but otherwise I do not purchase online content.

EDIT: Not quite half, but close . . .

Looks like we are due for another $20 hike this year.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

Yeah if I had those issues I would never use them or pay for Prime either.

Luckily my area gets a lot of same day/next day deliveries still which keeps me on there for basic stuff, but it's getting harder to justify every year.

I love being able to order some items in the morning and getting it that afternoon. Easier than going to the store.

As an aside, I hate charts like this that don't start at 0. A cursory glance would suggest that the amount increased 3-4x over 17 years. Hell, the jump between 2005 and 2014 looks like a doubling on its own. Yet as you note, the price hasn't yet doubled.

Meanwhile, to adjust that $79 in 2005 to 2025 dollars, it'd be about $134

So it's outpaced inflation, but just barely.

The commercials are getting unbearable too, right on schedule.

Bezos is going to get that $80 million bribe he gave Trump for the Melania movie back.

I dunno, after all the cosmetic surgery, she's kind of weird looking. He may not want her back. He's a gazillionaire, he can do better.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

I bought the Super Mario Brothers movie on Prime Video with some GC credits thinking that it would easily transfer to Movies Anywhere

Amazon Amazon

5 hours have passed and it's still only sitting in Prime video. Had not transferred over to MA. Has this title been removed or something? I tried disconnecting and reconnecting Prime Video to MA and it still doesn't show up.

Any thoughts?

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

Since I didn't hit play, I cancelled it and got a refund. Really weird that it didn't work.

Are Prime Video purchases still working on MA? Has anyone had any troubles?

Some of the Universal movies are tricky. I redeem Downton Abbey The Grande Finale at MA and it never ported to Amazon. Did you try disconnecting and reconnecting Amazon on your MA account? Sometimes you have to link them again after a certain amount of time.

Also, I have The Super Mario Bros movie, but it's the Bonus X-ray edition that ported to Amazon.
Amazon Amazon
Maybe the one version that's on sale is Amazon exclusive and doesn't port?
