The biggest story in that article is not the headline but a passing reference the author makes to Amazon's "purge" of content:

I checked my own Watch List (comprising hundreds of titles) and learned, to my shock, that 90-95% of the titles are either:

1) "currently unavailable to watch in your location”

2) now charging rental fees of varying degrees

3) “Watch Now Free with Ads – IMDB TV”

Most of the titles I saved to my Watch List were "Free with Amazon Prime"--without ads--when I saved them. Now, only a handful of the ones I checked remain that way, including a few seasons of Pokemon and other random anime series; some Amazon Original series; and lots of black-and-white B-movies, including westerns, from the 1930s and '40s. Not quite the range of choices that drew me to the service originally.
You'll appreciate this: My girlfriend got back into Pokemon recently, so I've sort of been going through Gold & Silver on Prime. It's weird that they call the series by their game-based, not TV-based names. Ruby & Sapphire should be Advanced Generation, to my knowledge.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

They rotate stuff like crazy, with absolutely no notice. It's the only service where I regularly peruse JustWatch (which just shows what is added) because there are some drastic changes day to day, and oftentimes I see the exact same movies showing up (meaning they come off the service and they get added back on). And it's not like you can find even the stuff they newly add unless you are meticulously keeping track on some third party site (or if it's a high profile release), so I don't know what their actual strategy is.

Looks like the entire series of Baywatch is leaving Amazon in 4 days.

It is still on Hulu though

Is it possible to leave subtitles on permanently?

This maybe depends on the app. I think my Xbox One app will leave English subtitles on as a switch between titles, although it treats "English" and "English CC" as separate languages, so if I switch between English-language and foreign language titles there can be an issue. Also, sometimes with all subtitles off I'll sometimes get German subtitles over in-video text and/or instead of English subtitles over a foreign-language section of a nominally English language title.

https://variety.com/2022/digital/new...17-1235171635/

Amazon Prime U.S. Price Is Increasing to $139 per Year, up 17%

Amazon said it will increase the price of a Prime membership in the U.S., with the annual membership from $119 to $139. In addition, the monthly fee for Prime is rising from $12.99 to $14.99.

It’s the first time Amazon has raised the price of Prime since 2018. For new Prime members, the price change will go into effect on Feb. 18, 2022, and for current Prime members, the new prices will apply after March 25, 2022, on the date of their next renewal.

👎. How about you forget the Lord of the Rings tv series and drop the annual price by $20?

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

So it’s going to be about $150 and change after tax. I use Amazon all the time and it’s a business write off for me. But that is a significant price increase. And I’m sure there are folks who have no interest in helping pay for a $500M TV series that they won’t watch.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

I think Amazon carefully manages the number of Prime customers, dictated by the company's capacity constraints and the cost of fuel.

Since you don't even get 2 day shipping anymore I am not seeing much point in renewing. I can't tell you the last time I watched anything on the streaming service.

Really? You must not live near a hub. Phoenix metro has numerous hubs. I often get things next day if order early enough.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

Interesting... Prime in Canada is only $79. Very unusual for anything to be cheaper, for us.

Regarding 2 day shipping, I still typically get things within 1 or 2 days 'of them shipping.' The problem I experience is that, at times, purchases don't ship for 3-4 days. At least they're upfront about it, when I'm placing the order, but it's still annoying. They have the item in stock, but just sit on it for a few days.

I have an Amazon warehouse near me. I’ve placed an order at 7 pm and had it delivered to my doorstep the next day.

Thankfully Amazon isn’t huge in Italy, so we finally get to let this expire.

It's like just over $12 (with my sales tax) per month assuming you pay for the whole year in advance, which I will do. Still worth it!

I pay $5.99 a month through their snap/ebt card program. Im guessing mine will increase to $7.99 or so a month.

Same, but they'll probably only raise it $1/mo because it's half price. They're raising the monthly fee by $2. Wish they'd those of us who take advantage of this save even more money buy paying up-front.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

In the past I’ve gifted myself a year at the old/current price, then activated it later. Pretty sure that will still work.

I'm far more bothered by their NFL deal, which should have been an add-on subscription.

That's understandable. I'm sure the fees Amazon paid to the NFL for Thursday Night Football also contributed to the price increase. Sports is very expensive.

And if Amazon hadn't purchased this package, someone else would have. There's no benefit for consumers, unless they didn't get the NFL Network and there was a chance of it staying there only.
