re: The Fandango at Home (Vudu) Thread - News, Bargains & Codes

Received this email today.

Vudu has joined the Fandango family

Hi Vudu customers,

A couple months ago, we shared that Vudu had entered into an agreement to be acquired by Fandango, the ultimate digital network for all things movies & TV. We are excited to let you know that Vudu is now part of the Fandango family. Rest assured that your movie & TV library is safe, and you continue to have access to all your Vudu apps across your favorite devices.

Along with uninterrupted use of your Vudu account, we will be bringing you new features and offerings to enjoy in the months ahead. Together, we are committed to connecting you with moving entertainment experiences, whether they are in a movie theater with a Fandango movie ticket or in the comfort of your own home on Vudu.

If you have any further questions, you can reference our Frequently Asked Questions here. Thank you for being part of Vudu. We look forward to continuing to bring you the best in movies and TV.

For those who reside in Massachusetts, Michigan, Connecticut, Maryland or Delaware, you may request not to transfer some of your account information to Fandango for continued operation of the Vudu service. In that case, Vudu will no longer be able to continue to provide you with its services. If you wish to not move forward with the transfer, please send the email address associated with your current Vudu account to [email protected], and we will follow up to confirm your choice and provide additional details.

Sincerely,
Vudu team

Weekend deals are up: https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/...end-Deals/7420

Bundles: https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/...f-Bundles/7422

Mix and match for $7.99 (nothing shows up right now): https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/mixandmatch/39688

2 bundles for $14.99 (nothing shows up right now): https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/mixandmatch/39687

Man, I really wish Vudu would give a UHD option for their bundles. I don't think I've ever seen one. (They could just do it for titles I'm not interested in, so I've never come across them. though.)

UHD bundles do exist. The details are in the purchase options within. For example.
https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/...undle-/1074676 has a UHD option for example.

Ah! See, those are some titles I don't care about. However, they have Evil Dead 1 & 2 bundled but only for HDX, even though individually you can buy them in 4K. In fact, if the first movie was rented individually, the only option is UHD. Vudu's licensing is weird.

besides the one minute, which even the chronological version seems to be same runtime and neither Memento listing signifies a difference, but anyone know the difference in listings? the other you can't buy anyway, so what is it? And why doesn’t the Blu-ray have chronological version? Was that fan made or Nolan approved?

The older one (smaller ID number) has the studio listed as "Sony Pictures":
https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/.../Memento/22478

The newer listing, that you can buy, has the studio listed as "bitMAX":
https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/...Memento/189536

I'm guessing the digital rights transferred between the two companies; Sony used to have digital rights, but the license possibly expired and bitMAX acquired them instead. The older Sony listing is there for people who bought that version and still have it in their library. The difference in playtime (113 v 114 min) is likely due to whether they rounded up or down from the seconds, and maybe one has a few extra seconds of black at the end or something (the Blu-rays have playtimes between 113:19 and 113:28 for the film)

It was released on the official 2 Disc Limited Edition DVD back in 2000. Why would you think it was fan made?

DVD extras get left off Blu-rays all the time. The German Blu-ray of Memento has the Chronological cut though:
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Memento-Blu-ray/177389/

The UK Blu-ray has it as an "Easter egg":

Damn, finally I can get Spies Like Us. I’ve been waiting forever to get that. I’ve tried doing D2D, but they never had it available.

Can we assume that the MGM titles tied to Fandango Now and Vudu will get merged at some point?

I haven't bought anything from MGM. I don't intend on starting until they become a part of MA.

Will definitely pick up Sneakers. Love that film.
Anyone know how Beach Bum is? Wondering if it’s fun.

Weird how a Best Picture winner like Crash could need a Director’s Cut. I mean the theatrical version wasn’t good, but it won BP. Is the director unhappy with the results?

I picked up Meet the Parents and Pleasantville. Two movies that I watched a lot on DVD and VHS, but I haven’t seen them in years or own HD copies. I hope they still hold up.

Weekend deals: https://www.vudu.com/content/movies/...end-Deals/7634

I might get Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. Hmmm... I can't remember if I liked the Reno 911! movie back when it came out. Hmmm.

Personal recommendation: The Lives of Others is a terrific movie and MA compatible. Plus the director's name is really fun to say: Florian Henckel vonDonnersmarck!

I’d say we can hope the MGM titles hit MA someday, but I’m certainly not assuming it.

I watched my old Columbia DVD of Memento the other day and on a lark threw it into D2D, but as expected the UPC wasn’t eligible. The new one is on sale for $7.99 but eh, it’s not like I watch it that often, and it has no features,

I think I have digital and the Blu-ray. Know I have Blu. It is a fun, cheesy, Max Headroom goes psycho killer with Denzel saving the day fun little cyber-crime-thriller hybrid. Kind of in vein of Wes Craven’s Shocker and The Lawnmower Man with a little Johnny Mnemonic thrown in. Need to see again...

re: The Fandango at Home (Vudu) Thread - News, Bargains & Codes

I think Virtuosity was more of Crowe’s breakout (albeit outrageous and poorly reviewed in US) then a Denzel movie. Am I wrong? And he had Romper Stomper in Australia, which I had on 2 disc OOP some region. It was ok movie. That was 92. I think that brought him here. I think Virtuosity was Aug 95, maybe showing cool grit in poorly received The Quick and the Dead was Feb 95 (which I kinda like and it’s Raimi). And then, well we certainly know where he went from there...
