Thanks. I went with Apple TV+ (same price) just in case they ever upgrade the streaming quality.

The "Deals" section on Vudu that gets updated every Tuesday has sucked lately. They're really pushing a lot of TV and older titles. This week they're pushing a lot of BET/VH1 programs.

Vudu is changing it's name.

Have you checked out the free movies on VUDU? It already exists.

I hate that they're getting rid of the VUDU name. Fandango at Home just doesn't sound right.

But you can use the acronym FAH which is kinda fun!

Because they want to use that brand name to entice you all to rent more $20 PVOD titles.

Fandango has some brand recognition as a movie watching related company. Vudu was a Wal-Mart product. Honestly they should have changed the name when Walmart sold it.

Vudu was more of a high end thing before Walmart bought it. You used to need a dedicated box to use it, and they catered to people who cared about quality. The After Dark section had real porn, and that was the first thing to go when Walmart bought it.

The FAQ about the change. Some odd things also. Like you can merge Fandango and Fandango at Home accounts but something about payment methods not merging.

Worth reading just for some clarification of some things lead to more questions.

I'm waiting to see if we lose any purchased titles. The whole "your library will stay right where it's always been" is kind of coy, as it doesn't say your library titles will all stay.

Yes, the linked FAQ says all titles will remain.

What will happen to my library and account now that Vudu is Fandango at Home?

All your movies and TV shows from Vudu will remain in your Fandango at Home Library. Nothing in your account will change, however you will now have the option to link your Fandango and Fandango at Home logins.

They would face a massive class action lawsuit if they used this switch to drop some existing movies from your collection.

I would’ve been more worried when they were purchased. A rebrand is annoying but not that big a deal.

re: The Fandango at Home (Vudu) Thread - News, Bargains & Codes

Just got an email from them.
The key takeaway is

"WHAT’S CHANGING:
Our name, logo, and colors

WHAT’S NOT CHANGING:
Pretty much everything else

All your movies and TV shows from Vudu will remain
in your library with no disruption to your service."

So that's good, and putting it an email that is proactively sent, versus a FAQ which people have to look for, is a little more up-front.

Pretty much everything else

All your movies and TV shows from Vudu will remain
in your library with no disruption to your service."

I thought the original email was fairly clear...

This change won't affect your streaming
experience, and your library will stay right
where it's always been.

Well, of course I hoped that's what it meant. But if I could absolutely see a weaselly streaming/digital service corner office suit guy who's trying to maximize revenue at all costs make the argument "your library is exactly where it's always been. It no longer contains all the stuff it used to, though."
I'll admit I'm on high alert with all the craziness that is going on in digital content.

Yeah I definitely get that… VUDU even has a clause in their TOS that they reserve the right to charge a monthly fee to access your library.

I suspect that is around the corner when the Hollywood studios finally faze out their bonus digital codes included with physical media.

VUDU makes money each time someone redeems a digital code there from the issuing studios. Once the digital codes from Blu-rays go away (and that is coming), VUDU will have to make that revenue up. Likely a monthly recurring fee to access your collection or you can enjoy commercials inserted into the films you "own". They are carefully watching what happens with Amazon Prime.

Amazon is not inserting ads in your library titles.
