Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes
Is Buffy in HD on Hulu and how come seems S8 motion comic which is actual continuation and end of series seem to be Vudu exclusive for years now. Why wouldn’t other services have it?

I'm sure Vudu got some kind of exclusivity from Dark Horse or something. I was reading up on it and the Blu-ray/HD transfer of Buffy is pretty universally panned, and not just the cropping to make it widescreen (for season 1) but the actual transfer itself. Some claim they fixed it but I haven't found conclusive evidence either way. In any case I bought the Hulu version because of that.

The Buffy comics went up to "season 12," so that season 8 motion comic isn't the finale of the comic series. They never made motion comics of the later comic storylines, so it seems like there wasn't a huge demand for it. As a result, I suspect VUDU may exclusively have it just because no other service has bothered licensing it. Season 7 is the official ending of the TV show.

SD video in general on streaming definitely looks worse than regular DVD- bigger difference between those than HD on streaming and Blu-Ray.

Will be so much better going through The Office, Buffy, and so much I want to get to. Much appreciated.

I had to turn that off one time. I forget what I was watching, maybe a season of The League (that I own). But, they would show the 'Inside the episode' extra (or whatever they called it) before the actual episode, or maybe it was the inside episode for the next episode. I can't remember but I had to turn that off. It's probably still off.

They had that "feature" forced on everyone for a while, which was awful because it covers half the screen with a countdown and cuts off the last few seconds even if there's dialogue there (don't know if they ever modified that, as I've never turned it back on)- thankfully they actually listened to complaints and added an on-off setting. That should never happen with material I've "purchased".

Well, there it is, selling to Fandango:

Nothing changes (for now):

Nothing changes (for now):
As a part of the agreement, Vudu will continue to power Walmart’s digital movie and TV store on Walmart.com.
In addition, Walmart says Vudu customers will have uninterrupted access to their Vudu library. They’ll also continue to be able to use their Walmart login as well as their Walmart wallet to make purchases on Vudu, the retailer notes.

My only concern is when they eventually merge Vudu with FandangoNow. I hope they keep the Vudu interface. FN's interface is very limited which makes it hard to browse. And the Library has no sorting/filtering options.

I'm not so sure the Disc to Digital feature will survive the transition. So if anyone's planning to convert their physical collection to digital, I'd do it as soon as possible.

Here's the list of eligible titles. There's a limit of 100 conversions per year.

I'm not too concerned. Fandango is owned by Comcast (NBC/Universal). Hopefully they'll give it more attention than Walmart.

I agree. Vudu's UI is *much* better than Fandango's. I access the latter via the menu entry baked into my Roku TV and its interface is pretty bad. Really, the only time I ever use Fandango is if there's a really good sale or I get a promo code via a Roku ad. Hopefully, they'll eventually merge libraries. I bought the Rambo 4K bundle on Fandango while the latest movie was being promoted because they had the best price for it, but it's kind of stranded over there. It would be nice to have it in the app where I do most of my non-MA viewing.
I'm concerned about the fate of D2D. I wonder if it's best to do some conversions now rather than before the calendar year is up.
