I tried that too. It took forever so I went to the other method. Once you web onto the top of one of the vertical struts you can swing really close to the orbs by arcing along the length of the arm....

Here's the trick with them. In order to get the orbs you need to web onto the tall strut that just out above each arm and then swing along the length of the arm towards the orb. That'll get you close...
