Re: The 92nd Academy Awards --> 2020 Oscar Awards Show Discussion

Laura Dern and Brad Pitt were the only two locks in my opinion. Well, and Toy Story 4.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (R. Johnson, 2017) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

George Lucas is the creator and visionary, and is the only one that truly can deliver what Star Wars is to me. That's been proven three times over now (though TFA was solid fan fiction). But again,...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (R. Johnson, 2017) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

The prequels are superior in every way, and it isn't close. I'd give anything to know George's ideas for 7, 8, and 9.

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi (R. Johnson, 2017) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

I thought it was a shit show except the Luke/Kylo scenes towards the end. And what's up with all of the false endings? And the actual ending was the worst of them all. I'm a George Lucas fanboy and...

Re: The 88th Academy Awards --> 2016 Awards Show Discussion

I haven't seen 45 Years, but Blanchett deserves it by default over the others. None were great.

Re: The 88th Academy Awards --> 2016 Awards Show Discussion

Jason Mitchell deserves to be there as much, if not more, than anybody in my view. I would not have been upset if Samuel L. Jackson had gotten a nom for The Hateful Eight either. He was great in it.

Re: The 88th Academy Awards --> 2016 Awards Show Discussion

I'm happy Mark Rylance won. Bridge of Spies was a bright spot in a down year for film in my opinion, and he deserves to be recognized for his performance.

Re: The 88th Academy Awards --> 2016 Awards Show Discussion

In general, this is far from the case in my opinion. He was better tonight though. Mainly because he wasn't being his usual self.

Re: The 88th Academy Awards --> 2016 Awards Show Discussion

This reminds me that I need to catch Anomalisa. A Charlie Kaufman animated film is something I must see.

Re: The 88th Academy Awards --> 2016 Awards Show Discussion

I have almost seen every nominee except Mad Max. It looks like I have to fix that immediately.

Re: Empire (S1E07) -- "Our Dancing Days" -- 2/18/15

As inane as they come, but I do think it is getting better with each episode. I just check my brain at the door, and understand that reality is not relevant to the show.

My main takeaway from the...

Re: Girls (HBO) - Season 4 Thread - premieres 1/11/15

I think it's about time that Adam Driver moved on, and I think that's where we're headed. As great as he has been on here, he's coming into his own right now as an actor. He's starring in Episode VII...

Re: Girls (HBO) - Season 4 Thread - premieres 1/11/15

Zosia Mamet is a hottie to me. Her body is A1. She's by far my favorite character on this show.

Re: 2014 Television Golden Globe Nominees Announced

Yeah, I need to check out Fargo. I was skeptical to the point of not watching it (as a huge fan of the film), but I've heard too many great things about it.

Re: 2014 Television Golden Globe Nominees Announced

I too thought True Detective was a lock. The Missing was every bit as good, but I knew it didn't stand a chance.

Re: The Missing (Starz) Season 1 Thread - Saturdays beginning 11/15

Are people really not watching this? It is wonderful. James Nesbitt's work on this show is every bit as good as Matthew McConaughey's on True Detective, and I considered that tops for the year. I'm...

Re: Last Movie You Watched Thread

Birth (2004)— The only Jonathan Glazer movie I hadn't seen, and wow! I was blown away by this one. Given its controversial nature, I'm surprised I haven't heard more about it previously. Glazer has...

Re: Movies you regret not seeing in theaters?

The Matrix, Saving Private Ryan, and Brotherhood of the Wolf. I heard so many great things about the theater experience for all of these films, but for one reason or another I never made it out.

Re: Boardwalk Empire (S5E08) -- Series Finale -- "Eldorado" -- 10/26/14

Eh.

Not the send-off this great series deserved. And I mean that in terms of the season and finale. This show has been totally predictable all season long, and to end with that "twist" just...

Re: Boardwalk Empire (S5E07) -- "Friendless Child" -- 10/19/14

Neither do I. Shows are more enjoyable that way in my opinion.

I enjoyed much of this episode (except the Siegel scenes- who would go through great lengths to get him back?). This season feels a...

Re: Gone Girl (Fincher, 2014) — The Reviews Thread

I hated this movie. I thought it had plenty of strong performances, some worthy of Oscar consideration (particularly Kim Dickens and Carrie Coon), but the movie was so preposterous that their...

Re: Boardwalk Empire (S5E02) - "The Good Listener" - 9/14/14

I feared that this would be the worst season for a variety of reasons, and so far I believe this to be true. Much better episode than last week though. I, like others, was most interested in the...

Re: The Leftovers (S1E10) -- Season Finale -- "The Prodigal Son Returns" -- 9/07/14

Okay, so season one covered the entirety of the book? That would mean the writers have free rein in season two, and I love the idea of that.
