Usually around 40 - 45 with NHT SuperOnes and no wife in the house. otherwise 30 - 35. i do have to turn up the volume more with my NHT's than i ever did with my old Yamaha speakers.

if by "regular" surround sound system you mean "Pro-Logic", then unless you have 5.1 channel inputs in the back of the receiver, you will not get DD5.1 or DTS. Your receiver and DVD player...
