I have toshiba 3109 DVD player and Samsung 27" TV. I'm thinking of buying new sony 36" XBR400, Yamaha receiver 795A and a reasonably priced speaker system around $400. I need your help and input on these :

TV :
Do you know if Sony's 36" XBR400 is out in the market. If yes then where can I get the best deal on it ?

Receiver :
I'm getting Yamaha 795A for $410.
Is this a good receiver or should I consider Yamaha 995 ?
I heard a new model 796 is gonna be out in october. Does anybody know what different it is going to be from 795A ?
Do you know of a place where I can get it even cheaper ?

Speakers :
I'm considering Klipsch Quitet or Energy Take 5.
Which system is better ?
I got a price of $325 for Quitet. Do you know of a cheaper place ?
Whats the best price I can get on Energy Take 5 in NY/NJ area or online ?
Should I consider any other system ? I heard Energy AC-300 is good too but little expensive ?

Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Thanks.

The Klipsch Quintet and the Energy Take 5's are both good satellite speaker systems. But, you will be disappointed if you do not buy a subwoofer with these systems. the lower range of these speakers if i remember correctly is around 80Hz.

Thanks Basset. I already have a Yamaha subwoofer (I don't remember model #) which I'm going to use with these.

Since you already have a sub look into some Paradigm bookshelf speakers. They are a great value. The Atom at $125 a pair is a much better speaker than the Klipsch or Energy.

for the price you pay for an XBR400, you could get a kick ass RPTV that is 50 inches or more.

Yammie 795a is a good receiver

JumboJP, thanks for the suggestion. I went to a local store last night and listened to Paradigm speakers. They do sound much better than Klipsch. I liked Phantom for front and Titan for rear. The guy gave me a price of $510 for both and $480 for Phantom with Atom. Is this a good price ? I checked AudiaReview and other forums and they have good reviews about these. As per user reviews it should be between $400-450 (w/titan) and $375-425 (w/atom).

I also looked at Yamaha 596 and liked it more than 795A as it has more power and more s-video i/o.

I'm confused about my center channel speaker too.

I listened to NHT speakers too and found them even better but are more expensive.

Any suggestions....

C'mon you experts there... help me build my system....

some good recs in here. Nice to see another person appreciates NHT. They are more expensive, but awesome.

As to the receiver, the Yammy 995 is not worth it. If you are going to go up in price that much look at the Marantz SR-7000 and the Denon AVR3300. There is also a new 6.1 (I think) amp out around 600 with DD and DTS that gets high marks. There are mentions of it in this forum recently, so you can search if you are interested.

I disagree with the comment about an RPTV. I HATE projection TV. The picture brightness fades quickly if you view off center. I am a big fan of direct view/plasma. No matter where you sit, you get a bright sharp picture. It's a shame the new widescreen direct views are so small and expensive. Don't know if they still make one, but proscan used to make a 36" widescreen, but it's not HDTV.

xcheckers, repeat after me...NHT..NHT..NHT..NHT.. seriously, if you could swing the extra money, i would give NHT consideration. i paid about $750 (including shipping) for the following:

NHT SuperCenter
NHT SuperOnes (2)
NHT SuperZeros (2)
2 Loran speaker stands for SuperOnes

am EXTREMELY happy with them. also, since the NHT SuperOnes go down to 57Hz they may integrate better with your Yamaha sub.

I liked NHTs a lot but they are expensive for my budget. I have decided on Paradigm. Here is what I want :

Phantom for Front
ADP-170 for Rear
CC-170 for center

Do you guys know of any place (web/mailorder/local B&M)where I can get them cheaper ? Can I get them mailordered from Canada ? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks.
