Re: The VINYL Thread!

I wonder if they will be selling gravity on Friday for the Kevin Tong gallery show.

Edit - guess not. Pre orders on 03/13 though.

This actually makes sense. But being a 19 year old hipster who buys a Crosey to listen to Lorde on vinyl seems silly given the modern formats. No matter what you think of the sound of vinyl, those Crosleys are going to sound like ass and there are much better digital options (if space and simplicity are your desires).

Fuck. Would have loved to get Emotionalism for $15. Sold out.

But I got

Melody's Echo Chamber - $8.99
Flaming Lips - The Terror - $10.99
White Denim - Corsicana Lemonade - $9.99

Thanks for the posting this!

By the way, Best Buy has vinyl? I might go in there once in a while if they had anything left of interest to buy there.

The Paypal option isn't working for pre-ordering Gravity.

EDIT - It finally worked.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I actually just bought Lateralus by Tool and Versus the World by Amon Amarth last weekend with some expiring RZ certificates.

Thanks for the sale update though, just picked up:

Bitter Rivals - Sleigh Bells
Summer Camp - Summer Camp
Anxiety - LadyHawke

Not too shabby!

Yeah, all the good stuff, or at least the majority of it, is sold out on BB. I went through the entire listings and there were only 3 that caught my and one of them was just a singles disc.

Had to do a lot of work getting it back to performing again, like replacing the worn and frayed audio cables, and taking all the pots apart and cleaning them. Added an Ortofon headshell, and the ubiquitous AT-95E cartridge.

I still get a little sibilance, and the sound seems a little muddier on tracks closer to the end of a record. I think I should try aligning the cartridge again, although I've never quite gotten it to align on a "Technics Protractor", only a more generic one.

How have you enjoyed the performance of that TT?

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I did Gravity of course being the mondo fan I am. TAKE MY MONEY MONDO!

Like an idiot I braved SXSW today to look at posters at Flatstock. Then walked 10 blocks to the Third Man record truck which was was about 6 blocks from where it was yesterday. Didn't see that there was anything I couldn't buy online.

For someone that really loves music, SXSW just annoys me. I guess I am a shut in now. back in my day 20 yrs ago I went to SXSW. Left Dallas at 6 pm and found a parking place in 5 min when I arrived in Austin! Saw a show at Liberty Lunch and I was back home in Dallas by 3 AM! i paid $25 to park today! Get off my lawn!

RSD has become such a pain in the ass. No point even going to Amoeba in Hollywood. The line goes back for a mile.

I'm going to two local joints in Pasadena and then breakfast right after. I went to my first one last year and it was mediocre. Got all my shit at the first shop, ironically.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

My local record store of choice moves so much product every day, his new thing is to order huge quantities of RSD inventory. So chances are I'll get good stuff (not the really limited stuff) without resorting to waiting in any lines.

I wonder how Princeton Record Exchange is on RSD. Anyone know?

You've got to have other indie record stores (arent they all "indie" now?) in the area.

There are but even some of the indie stores jack up the prices. I ventured out to a few indie shops just outside of my area last year and those that did have some special RSD items hiked the prices up 2 to 3 times what they were selling at my local shops. That's why I'm staying planted this year.

I'm thankful not to have the same experience. Luckily, my local inde music store(s) are Bull Moose Music, whose Chris Brown is one of the founders of RSD. Even though there will be a line, BM does a great job of handling the event, and I don't think there's ever been a case where I didn't get what I was looking for. They also have four locations within a 20 minute drive of my house, so if one doesn't have something, the others likely will.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

My record store has live hardcore bands playing in the store (which is kind of annoying at this point in my life) and the prices are set exactly to what is being advertised or a bit less. The Black Friday RSD he had like 30 copies of every title. He still has a lot of stock left over actually.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

There are smaller stores. I'll have to figure out which of them I want to hit.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I'd spend $80 more and get a U Turn if at all possible.

Michael Fremer just did a review of it that was very complimentary.

By the way he also posted recently that the original TRON soundtrack is coming soon.
