^I thought he was telling Artie, but it's been a while so I could easily be mistaken.

I do remember the disdain you could hear in his playing and singing.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Heh. Just looked that video up.

Kind of have a Mandela Effect thing going on, where I remembered Larry telling him to play Werewolves of London even though he knew he didn't want to.

I think that was also the first time I heard that song, even though I knew of it just by the title. Early 90s, back when you didn't have every song ever recorded at your fingertips.

Also a weird irony in that both Zevon and John Ritter died ten years later within days of each other.

Just added to the RSD '26 list, a 7" from Starcrawler. Two Elvis covers, "Baby Let's Play House" amd "Blue Moon", recorded at Sun Studios.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Wanna hear an amazing piece of good luck? A temp company I worked for in 2022 was involved in some lawsuit, settled out of court , and I was just informed I'll get a small chunk of the settlement. Should be around $500, and I should get the check right before RSD.

^As long as you don't have to pay a $50 check fee, or some other type of bullshit.

It's actually more than that, and if I write them the $50 check they're gonna send me the extra.

No, it's legit. The notice was 4-5 pages of legalese, had all my information from the time I was there, what my approximate share will be, and said "you only need to contact us if you DON'T want to be part of the settlement", and of course mentioned that taxes will be taken out of the amount. I've had this happen before, got a nice Fender amp with the settlement money.

Cleaned and played it tonight and was very impressed. Sounds fantastic. Rhino Reserve has been getting much praise as an audiophile label and I can see why. With Chris Bellman mastering the album from the analog stereo tapes and the vinyl pressed at Fidelity Record Pressing it's really no surprise. I'll be looking for more releases from the Rhino Reserve line in the future. FWIW, my setup is as follows: An Audio Technica AT-LPW50PB manual turntable with an AT-VMN95ML cartridge, an Arcam A15 integrated amplifier, and a pair of Sonus Faber Toy floorstanding speakers.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

This just sold on Discogs last month for $10,000. Glenn Danzig's first solo single (while he was still fronting the Misfits, first pressing was 1981), 1983 second pressing limited to 25 copies in this color. Is this a record price for a punk single? I know original Misfits singles go for big bucks, but damn!

Re: The VINYL Thread!

That's a lot. I think I told the story about one of my favorite record stores having a copy of the first pressing of the first Black Flag single, Nervous Breakdown, displayed on the wall for $1500. He said it was in a collection he bought, and he wanted to hold on to it so he intentionally put a "ridiculous price" on it, as he said.

Wasn't ridiculous enough, apparently. Next time I went in the shop it wasn't there, and he said someone was willing to pay it.

Bet he got to close early that day.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Heh, there's always someone willing to pay a high price, as long as it's not too outrageous. Back in the 80s, the head shop/record store where I bought most of my metal and punk albums had some Misfits singles displayed on the wall behind the counter. Due to the era, I'm assuming they weren't counterfeits, and they were priced at around $100 each. At the time I was a poor college student so there was no way I could have bought them, but damn I wish I could get them for that price now!

I am not a vinyl fan, so I have no idea if this has been done before (I am assuming it has) but it is the first time I have seen it. Liquid filled vinyl - only 100 bucks!

There was a vinyl soundtrack release for one of the Friday the 13th films that was filled with fake blood.

Jack White also had a liquid filled 12" single. I've got a copy (or perhaps it's half a copy?) around here somewhere.

Led by Taylor Swift, U.S. Vinyl Sales Reached $1 Billion for First Time
Since 1983 with vinyl sales growing for a 19th consecutive year.

https://variety.com/2026/music/news/...on-1236690069/

Vinyl sales climbed 7.9%, to 46.8 million from 43.4 million in 2024, with revenue climbing to $1,042.9 billion from $954.4 million, according to the RIAA’s report, which was released early Monday. This is due in no small part to Taylor Swift’s ongoing emphasis on vinyl sales — her 2025 album “Life of a Showgirl” sold around 1.6 million units on vinyl alone, one of many high-selling titles in her catalog: next up was her “Lover (Live From Paris)” set, which racked up 166,000 units, ninth for the year, according to Luminate. Variety’s 2025 Hitmaker of the Year Sabrina Carpenter’s two most recent albums, “Man’s Best Friend” and “Short n’ Sweet,” sold nearly 600,000 vinyl units last year.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I'd like to see the comparison of numbers sold vs. 1983, not dollars.
Cuz Tay-Tay ain't sellin' her new record for $7.98 like The Human League did.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Found a pretty rare one on the 'cogs tonight: A Westwood One radio concert from 1984 by The Romantics. I've only heard King Biscuit records that were meant for broadcast, I'm curious as to the quality of the Westwood shows. Very reasonable price too, had to pull the trigger on it.

I saw that announced, very tempting as this is one of my favorite albums, but I'm very happy with the Rhino High Fidelity release from a couple years ago, it sounds fantastic. Plus I'm too lazy to have to flip sides every two or three songs, so I'm not a big fan of 45 RPM double discs.
