Re: The VINYL Thread!
When I bought the mono CD box set I also picked up the CDs of AR and LIB just so I had all the albums. At the time Amazon had them all for cheap, I paid $100 for the box set and $10 a piece for the other two. I'm good now, the vinyl set is a bit tempting, but for that price, I'm not enough of a fan to splurge. Although I would love to have the hardcover book that's included, wish they would sell it separately.

The final David Bowie vinyl box set is going to be released on September 10th. Containing 18 LPs, 'I Can't Give Everything Away' will consist of his 4 studio albums from the 21st century (Heathen, Reality, The Next Day, ★ BLACKSTAR), as well as live albums A Reality Tour and his 31-song set from the Montreux Jazz Festival in 2002, plus a couple of EPs and another compilation of singles, B-sides, and various live recordings (Re:Call 6). Very much looking forward to this, as I own the Brilliant Adventure box set which covered his 1990s period through Toy in 2001.

I caught the Sex Pistols in Vancouver on their Filthy Lucre tour - let's see here - 29 years ago this weekend (wow, can't believe it's been that long ...
)
They only played 3 shows in Canada (2 of them in Toronto). Great concert, btw ...

The crazy thing is that more time has passed since that tour than had between them breaking up in '78 and getting back together for that reunion!
Fuck, I'm old.

I love niche audio equipment and ran into this. It has an interesting history, originally coming out in 1983 and being re-released as a much-improved model.

Other than not being very high-end sounding audiophile equipment and having a high tracking force why shouldn't I buy this?

I remember someone posted a video of their vertical record player and it actually made me light-headed watching it.

I have a vertical/upside-down/horizontal turntable, the Technics SL-10 and it’s amazing. The record is totally enclosed so it doesn’t look any different how it’s placed, it’s kind of like a CD. It can run on 12-volts too so you can use it in the car.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
I read up on the Technics SL-10 a while back when I was researching linear tracking turntables.
Always wanted a direct drive when I was a kid after seeing one in a Radio Shack catalog and thought it looked cool as hell. Seriously considered trying to buy a SL-10 a while back, but I've always been leery about buying used electronics.
Still don't think I'd trust to play in any position but flat, and certainly not in a car.
I have a lot of rare vinyl in high-grade because I spent my youth in the late 1980s buying almost everything on vinyl (when everyone else I knew was buying cassettes) and keeping it in pristine condition, so I'm extremely careful with my records. And now I cringe thinking about how, back in junior high and high school, I played them on cheap Magnavox record players with those red five dollar needles without even cleaning them.

I tried the SL-10 in a car but road bumps made it skip. Since the tracking force doesn’t depend on gravity it works perfectly fine upside down as well. The only negative to its performance is, like many linear tracking turntables, that the motor driving the belt that moves the cartridge can impart a bit of extraneous noise to the sound.
I never bought a pre-recorded cassette in my life so I also accumulated only vinyl and reel-to-reel tapes and I kept my records in essentially pristine condition, always using good equipment to play them. My first turntable was a Gerrard Zero 100 with a Shure V15 Type III and it was very gentle with records. They still sound great today and I’ve heard most of them as I recently digitized my collection.

I've been listening to the Pink Floyd At Pompeii MCMLXXII double vinyl album I picked up back in May and it sounds fantastic. If anyone has been on the fence about this, I would definitely recommend getting it ...

Guns N Roses are rereleasing their live album, Live Era '87-'93. It was OOP and has been really highly priced on the secondary market. OK live album with an amazing jam after Move to the City. This version includes a bonus track of Coma which I believe was on the Japanese release originally.
There are a few different versions but on GNR's website. Here's the black vinyl which is what I'm going to pick up.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
There is a European pressing and a US pressing. The Euro pressing was done by Record Industry in the Netherlands (this is the one that I have). The US pressing was mastered at GZ Media (not the best reputation) and pressed at Memphis Record Pressing. The US version seems to be the one with the issues. The way to tell them apart is by the sku number on the back: The Euro one is 19802876231, while the US one is 1980287623S1. Avoid the US one if you can.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
I’m definitely picking it up more as a completionist than for the quality of the album itself. I mean it’s fine. Better than most of the bootleg live albums I have of theirs but nothing special outside of that Move to the City jam which I’ve always loved.
