Bought a bunch of vinyl down at Third Man Records (Jack White) while I was in Nashville. (Shins, Jenny and Johnny, White Denim, Beck, First Aid Kid "Live at Third Man Records")

I picked up a copy of Kraftwerk Trans Europe Express still in shrink wrap back home over the weekend.

Did you go to Phonoluxe in Nashville, by any chance? They have an amazingly huge amount of used vinyl and decent prices for it.

No, I was on foot the whole week and didn't want to bring back too much stuff. Plus, I have the greatest record store here at home. :)

Re: The VINYL Thread!

For anyone that missed out on the first edition, Death Waltz has 600+ copies of The Fog, Blake's Gold edition available here

I was able to get a copy from Light In The Attic Records before they sold out to avoid the ridiculous shipping charges.

Why So Blu? 08-13-13 12:01 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

^ Just saw that. They want $41 GDP shipped, which comes out to over $63 U.S. - I'll be skipping it.

Obey The D 08-13-13 12:19 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

That's crazy. It was $36 after shipping through Light In The Attic.

Just got the reissue of King Crimson's Red on 200g vinyl. Haven't had a chance to listen yet.

MBoyd 08-13-13 04:29 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

My local store had 3 copies of the gold Fog over the weekend at $35. I went for a couple of the talking heads reissues instead.

islandclaws 08-13-13 04:33 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I'd love to grab The Fog if I come across it somewhere, but no way am I paying $63 for it.

Is there any reason to get it over the original version?

Supermallet 08-15-13 06:31 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

200g vinyl, a new remaster supervised by Robert Fripp of the original mix. If you can find a good condition original issue for less than $30 you're probably fine.

Supermallet 08-19-13 12:57 AM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Picked up some items at Amoeba, all original issue unless otherwise noted:

Talk Talk: The Colour of Spring (Japanese release with second disc featuring extra studio and live tracks on colored vinyl)

I'm at FYF Fest this weekend in LA and there are several record shops that have booths and are selling vinyl. Are they really expecting people to lug around vinyl for 10 hours in the desert? Weird.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I need to stop going to Amoeba.

Found Death Waltz editions of Prince of Darkness and The Fog (Blake's Gold edition), which is absolutely fucking gorgeous. Also grabbed the soundtracks to Roadie and The Black Hole, as well as Wendy Carlos' Switched On Bach.

Why So Blu? 09-01-13 03:23 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

What did you pay for POD and The Fog? ^

islandclaws 09-01-13 04:44 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

POD was $24.95, The Fog was $34.95. I think my friend & I cleaned out the POD stock, but they still had at least 6 copies of The Fog.

I see The Clash has a vinyl reissue box set coming. I've bought the reissues that have been out for the past couple of years so I guess there won't be any difference than the ones in the set? anyone know? Only Sandinista and Combat Rock seem new.

I've got original issues of London Calling and Combat Rock, so I will be skipping this.

At the Solid Sound Festival, the vendor would hold your purchase and staple a ticket to the bag and give you the other. Or they would ship UPS.

That's smart.

Picked up some Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab reissues:

I think they're doing a release of Sketches of Spain on vinyl next month, which I will grab for sure.

Edit: Yep, October 8th. Pre-ordered a copy from Amazon.

Just ordered that Audio Technica turntable that Why So Blu linked to on page 2 for a friend as a wedding gift. Also picked up the remastered The Queen is Dead by The Smiths and Kid A on vinyl for the couple.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I want the MFSL reissue of one of the greatest albums of all time, Elvis Costello - Imperial Bedroom. I want Blood on the Tracks too. Those things are too much for me, however. I bought so much vinyl recently... I suppose the things recently I bought that stood out were:

Rezillos - Can't Stand the Rezillos (original)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...lbum_cover.jpg

Bootsy's Rubber Band - Bootsy? Player of the Year (with removable Bootsy glasses)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...f_The_Year.jpg

Scott Pilgrim vs the World S/T (red vinyl)

http://www.soundstagedirect.com/medi...soundtrack.jpg

I also got an Apple label copy of Revolver for $1.

My main focus has been running my existing records through that Spin Clean system. A lot of my old records are beat but I discovered lots of good stuff, like all 4 of the Smiths records and Louder than Bombs being nearly flawless after running them through the cleaner.

Supermallet 09-12-13 03:56 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I have Imperial Bedroom on vinyl already, so I haven't bothered with the MFSL version...yet. But I do agree that it's an incredible record.

I just got a discwasher, and have yet to run any records through it. Gonna try and get to that this weekend.

Thinking about getting the NIN Hesitation Marks and In Utero boxed set on vinyl this week.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Oh man, this MFSL issue of Blood On The Tracks sounds unbelievable. The one crappy thing about being into vinyl is that sometimes you hear a recording that is so good on record that you don't want to hear it on CD or MP3 anymore.

I have NIN on the way from Amazon. Listened to a few on the Cloud. Like what I've heard thus far.

There should be a "Like" button for this statement. Instead, I'll just give you one of these...

Same thing happened with "Too Much Too Soon", the power and fullness of the tones made it sound like I was hearing the album for the first time.
