I agree. All indicators say have your money ready though. Can't wait for the reviews.

In other news I am diggin' Joe Jackson's The Duke right now. All newly interpreted Duke Ellington songs. Caravan is great.

I just picked up an original pressing of XTC's English Settlement. Double album of course with lyric sleeves and the embossed and textured album cover. I had the generic light green version. Shows a bit of wear but it's hard to find one that doesn't. Vinyl is near mint.

Those Orbits are new to me (not familiar with them). I'm using a 20yr-old Technics that does the job okay, but is rather bulky. I do like the cosmetics of the Orbit, but am not too familiar on what the improved technology is -- anyone have any input?

From a vinyl standpoint, Random Access Memories arrived safely from Amazon today -- currently giving it a spin.

I got a copy at Amoeba a while back, and when I got home I discovered that XTC had released an edited single disc edition of the album...and that was the one I bought. Oh well. I have the whole album on MP3.

Here's the Kickstarter (now completed), which has details on their player: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...ble-0?ref=live

Their goal is to be a budget audiophile player. You can buy better sounding tables, but they cost a lot of money. Still, none of them have actually shipped yet, and I'm quite happy with my vintage Technics, so I'm not jumping on a pre-order just yet. I did recommend one to a friend of mine who's also into vinyl and has an entry level player.

Picked up Black Country Communion -- Afterglow today. Not as good as their first two, but still a good record. Too bad they are not around anymore ... I really like these guys

My second Feedbands record has shipped, but hasn't arrived yet.

I bought a Technics SL-1300MKII for $40 over the weekend. Fluke find. Needs some TLC but it should be good. Weighs a ton, seems to be made from steel and wood.

Niiiice. I'm rocking a Technics SL-1800 from '79 myself.

Technics SL-1900 myself. Not sure the exact year. Usable with a decent cartridge, but sure is bulky. Curious to see what the reviews of the U-Turn's will be when they hit the street.

^ Excellent. How's the second record of movie queues sound? I plan to track one of these down on the aftermarket.

I picked up Death Waltz's edition of Halloween III at Amoeba last week. My first - and certainly not last - purchase of their releases. Very impressive. High quality stuff.

I got that release from ebay. Love the colored vinyl.

the second record is very good - honestly the set would be worth it even just for the first record...probably one of my favorite Carpenter scores.

That is a great looking vinyl.

Scored a bunch of stuff at the Solid Sound festival:

The Kinks - Arthur (original gatefold with pull out)
David Bowie - Hunky Dory (original textured cover with lyric sleeve - been looking for a good copy)
New York Dolls - S/T (it was cheap and clean)
King Crimson - Red (original and very clean)

NEW:
Low - The Great Destroyer
Foxygen - Take the Kids Off Broadway (had signed by band)

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I'm thinking I should've gotten in on Mondo's Maniac (2012) vinyl because, even though the film wasn't good, the score is fantastic. Sounds like John Murphy meets Alan Howarth.

Did it sell out?

The last batch of vinyls lasted a bit. I know The Raid and Oblivion took about 2 weeks or so to sell out.

Nice find on Hunky Dory and NYD. I haven't been able to find a copy of the latter that wasn't a reissue.

yeah it did sell out for sure - later that morning.

The Maniac soundtrack is probably one of my favorite new scores in quite a while. I was able to snag one from Mondo but it hasn't shipped yet.

For those interested, Death Waltz Records announced last night that they were given permission to do another print run of The Fog soundtrack...though they won't offer the clear or black vinyl versions this time.

islandclaws 06-27-13 12:30 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Might have to grab a new pressing for The Fog.

I also saw Death Waltz indicated they're doing Beyond the Black Rainbow, which was one of my favorite scores in recent years. And it's never had a proper release.

Supermallet 06-27-13 03:27 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I will definitely grab Beyond The Black Rainbow. God that movie fucked me up.

Geofferson 06-27-13 11:57 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I'll have to check that movie out. Liked what little I've heard of the soundtrack. Glad to hear there'll be a second pressing of The Fog. Picked up the Mondo release of Maniac as well.

I'm also expecting a copy of The Naked and Famous album to arrive any day now.

Beyond The Black Rainbow is on Netflix.

CRM114 06-28-13 10:17 PM

I'm not sure if this New York Dolls album is original or not. I'll have to look at it closer. It's not recent.

I have Beyond the Black Rainbow in my queue now. Thanks.

I picked up some new stuff today:

Robyn Hitchcock "I Wanna Go Backwards" - 8 LP set with signed poster, new - $40 - dude begged me to take it :)

Zappa/Mothers "Absolutely Free" - a bit on the fair side but original Verve vinyl cleaned up nice - incredibly great album

Jimi Hendrix Experience "Axis: Bold As Love" old thick Reprise, guessing original

Robyn Hitchcock "Eye" signed, 1990 Twin/Tone

and my add ons...

Joni Mitchell "The Hissing of Summer Lawns"
The Human League "Dare"

Supermallet 06-29-13 12:37 AM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

The Hissing of Summer Lawns is my favorite Joni album.

Absolutely Free is also incredible. "Brown Shoes Don't Make It" is anarchy in the best way.

CRM114 06-29-13 12:53 PM

On a fluke, sitting in an old crusty bin, was The Kinks "We are the Village Green Preservation Society" mono reissue from Germany. Flawless vinyl, cover pretty good. Guy threw in a 12" by the Cure for a total of $6.

The New York Dolls album I bought last week is original, Mercury, with the lipstick logo labels.

Yeah, I'm with rocket dog and crm114 on this.
You're bitching about the lead singer and guitarist for Sleater Kinney. And the commercial is obviously a parody poking fun at hipsters, you guys are idiots.

Ah, gotta love a new member making his mark by calling people idiots in his first post.

Perhaps this new member should read the forum rules before posting, the one that says no personal attacks?

Is this all from the same store? That place sounds like a goldmine.

My usual store IS a goldmine. The dude that runs it gets thousands of records a week and his inventory is continuously turned over. He buys large collections almost constantly.

But I bought the Dolls album and the other good stuff at the pop-up record store at the Solid Sound festival. I bought the signed Robyn Hitchcock stuff at another record store about 30 minutes away. And I bought the Kinks "Village Green" album in some crusty flea market bin locally.

No, I live about 70 miles west of NYC in Pennsylvania.

If anyone is ever near Allentown, PA (not sure why you would be but you never know), this place is awesome. Rarely overpriced and often underpriced.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Someone posted this on another board and I thought I'd share. Target has a small selection of vinyl in their electronics department near the Crosley turntables. They've put them on clearance at half off, so they should be around $10-11. I checked my local Target, but they haven't marked them down yet, so your mileage may vary.

At my store there was mostly Beatles, Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here, and U2's Joshua Tree.

islandclaws 07-01-13 07:29 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

So, I've been buying a lot of used records lately and it occurred to me that I should probably be cleaning them.

Is there a good kit that anyone recommends? Or maybe a home method that works great? Lay your ideas upon me.
