Looks like the Dredd soundtrack will be available via Amazon UK in about two weeks. It's about $35 shipped, though.

MusiciansFriend has a 15% off code for used products at the moment, so I went with the a red DC in 'near mint' condition (sounds like only the box has been opened).

Coupled with 5% off from Discover and 5% off through FatWallet, the price was too good to pass up (ends up being cheaper than the Orbit).

Anyway, excited to give this baby a spin (and finally retire my 20 y/o Technics).

Recently ordered off of ebay:

Phil Collins: Face Value
Lou Reed: Growing Up In Public, The Blue Mask

Currently bidding on an original issue copy of White Light/White Heat.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Oh, and two Supremes Greatest Hits records. I actually picked up an original Supremes album from the '60s, only to discover that the albums featured inferior performances to the singles, so I needed to get the greatest hits unless I wanted to track down all the individual 45" records.

And info on the Mondo Halloween release: http://e2.ma/webview/5ijye/3fb7b1be1...c896764b28cda0

I'll be trying for it but I hate how limited this stuff is.

And that copy of White Light/White Heat is mine.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I picked up the tales from the crypt 7" on Friday at Mondo. Will be going for Halloween. About half the time I score a variant. Not sure I completely understand this one. It's a double album apparently, but the variant is an orange version at 45 rpm. Wouldn't that be 4 records then? Pretty easy to tell a variant by weight then. Maybe I am misunderstanding.

Supermallet 10-30-13 09:25 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I thought all of Mondo's records were cut at 45 RPM?

MBoyd 10-30-13 09:31 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

No, this would be the first.

Supermallet 10-30-13 09:32 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Halloween is, too.

Supermallet 10-30-13 09:35 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I'm seeing a listing for three 45 RPM singles on the Mondo site, but not a full album.

MBoyd 10-30-13 09:48 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I'm talking about Halloween, not the recent tales from The crypt singles. Those ARE 45, but the blog made it sound like the Halloween variant would be a full size orange 45 rpm release. Or am I reading it wrong and it's a 7" 45 orange record dropped in?

Tomorrow, we release John Carpenter’s legendary soundtrack for HALLOWEEN as a double LP pressed on 180 Gram black vinyl (with randomly inserted Orange vinyl) cut at 45RPM for optimal sound quality
And I was going off a 45 rpm release of a jazz record I have. Normally one 12" record and the 45 rpm was two. So if Halloween is a double album already, if the variant is 45 rpm, that should be four records maybe?

Edit: lol Nevermind, I just saw the parentheses. I get it now. Back to 3rd grade for me.

Supermallet 10-30-13 09:49 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

Oh, I see. I misread your post. All versions of Halloween will be 45 RPM, but some will also be orange.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I'm beat. Not being clear.

In other news there's a rumor started on vinyl collective that Breaking Bad could get a Mondo release and they have even expressed interest. Can't see them doing it if a poster or show wasn't somehow involved.

Must be a rather large edition, because it's still available.

I went in for two, along with a pumpkin slip mat. Can't wait to hear this!

Supermallet 10-31-13 10:52 AM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I just went straight for the vinyl, one copy. It would be nice if I got a variant, as it would match my other orange-streaked Halloween Death Waltz records.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I snagged one vinyl. I'm sure this isn't a very limited edition (at least for the black vinyl) - this should sell well

Geofferson 10-31-13 10:57 AM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I ordered a vinyl too. Yeah, probably not too limited since I see it's available for pre-order on Amazon as well.

I pre-ordered what looks to be Ghost's new EP album. I love their image and the fact that they're the new King Diamond/Mercyful Fate of rock.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61-kua4vb2L.jpg

The album only has 5 tracks and the fifth track is a live one. The price is right and I love that cover artwork.

Geofferson 11-02-13 09:56 AM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

^ interesting. I may pick that up since so cheap. Only song of theirs I've heard is Ritual, but I liked it. Heard that they remind some people of BOC as well.

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I have not heard of that band, but you had me at "new King Diamond/Mercyful Fate of rock".

The title track is a rather good version of Roky Erickson's "If You Have Ghosts". Produced by Dave Ghrol, it also includes covers of Abba's "I Am A Marionette", Depeche Mode's "Waiting For The Night" and Army Of Lovers' "Crucified".

Ah, so it's a cover album. I didn't know that. Shit, Army of Lovers' Crucified? That was a great track. haha

Ghost is covering songs by the lead of the 13th Floor Elevators (Erickson) and ABBA on the same record? I'm in

I listened to Ghost's most recent album and it sounded nothing like King Diamond or Mercyful Fate. It was good, but I think that's not a great comparison to make. It sets up certain expectations that are unfair to Ghost.

Their debut album is the one that many say has a MF meets BOC feel to it. I love both albums, but they sound very different.

Hmmm, I don't know what to say then. That's who I felt (and others too) they sounded like.

Got it. I'll have to give the first album a try. The second album was still good, though.

Ah yes, BOC too - there's that connection, as well.

Listened to the first album. Now I see why people are making those connections. Funny thing is, I prefer the second album.

I await their cover of "Crucified," because watching the original video by Army of Lovers makes me chuckle. I remember they made fun of it on Beavis and Butthead back in the day. It's a good track but silly ass hell video.

Picked up the second Portishead album. $11.99 on Amazon. The packaging is odd. The album is 50:30, and it spans two discs, at 33 rpm. Side one consists of two songs, totaling 8:47. Why not make it a 45 rpm?

I can't tell you how many times in college I pointed at the Velvet Underground and Nico album on a record store wall and laughed at the $50 price tag. Go check what they are going for on eBay now.

Supermallet 11-04-13 02:18 PM

Re: The VINYL Thread!

I just paid a little over $80 for that original issue White Light/White Heat. And sadly, that's not the most I've ever spent on a single record.

The Inside Llewyn Davis OST (new Coen Bros. movie) will be available at a discounted price of $6 for one day only (Tue 11/5) on Nonesuch. Not sure if this price is 100% confirmed, but something to check out tomorrow if interested.
