Same thing here. I actually hold the camera in front of my face, so I can see the screen while I'm taking the video. It does help that I'm over 6' tall, but still...blocking other people's view is not cool.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Just saw fuckin' GWAR last night!

Been meaning to catch them for years, and finally got a chance. They were spectacular. Such an amazing show - where else would you get sprayed with blood out of a bag of dicks and from a woman's boobs? It was pure insanity, but also a ton of fun! And ridiculousness aside, they're a damn good band with some solid, catchy songs. And I'm in love with their new member, Vulvatron!

They even had a touching tribute to their lead, Oderus, who had passed away, and they turned the show into a story about the search of Oderus - fun stuff.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Gwar is always fun. I wish they would have turned the story into how they were on a rampage across the Earth after Oderus' death, as opposed to searching for him, but I'm just glad they are continuing on.

Wow, that must have been incredible, just got done watching the Sonic Highways Nashville episode. Loved how they called out Nashville for being a pop-hit factory.

I saw FOO last weekend @ VoodooFest in New Orleans and they rocked as usual, did a song with Trombone shorty too. SLAYER had a great set, and I was pleasantly surprised by Manchester Orchestra, who I'd never seen before. I'll tell you what, they had some of the heaviest sounding guitars I've heard in quite awhile. I look forward to hearing them play a full set next time they come through Denver.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?

Peter Hook and the Light at The Royale in Boston. Wow, talk about getting your money's worth---they played for 2 1/2 hours. They opened with a Joy Division set, then played a set of Brothehood, then a set of Low-Life, and then an encore of assorted New Order hits.

Fun show, and the band was very workmanlike and professional---having fun, but intense and focused, with everything tightly organized, not much time between sets, no messing around with equipment, etc--just a lot of songs. Hook's son is playing bass, and he's excellent. Hook's vocals are passable, but they were kept kind of down in the mix anyways. I have not seen Sumner's current version of New Order, but other than the vocals I doubt they sound better than Hook.

(Oh, and the guitarist really had the Joy Division guitar tone down exactly. It sounded like it was right off the records.)

^^^^^^
I saw them a couple of years ago do JD's Closer and then a set of JD hits, they were excellent.
They played NYC 2 days ago but I was not able to attend.

Yeah, I had never seen JD or New Order in any incarnation, so I was psyched for this one.

Based on that, I went ahead and just got tix to one of his LA shows.
I did see New Order once, back in '88... god, I'm old.

Butch Walker and Ryan Adams at the Palace Theatre in Columbus, OH last night.

Butch had a short set, but is always entertaining. Ryan, meh.

Cool thing is that I'm going with my cousin (who went with me to that NO show back in '88), it's on a Saturday (concerts during the week kill me at work the next day), AND it's at the Henry Fonda theater, which is one of my favorite venues in LA. Even if he's just "okay", it should be a good time.

Great review here that I agree with:

Saw Arch Enemy & Kreator on Wednesday night. Huntress and Starkill were opening acts. Mosh pit and crowd surfers were very active, lost count of how many people passed over my head.

Does Alissa sing any more, or does she just ape Angela now? I thought she had a pretty good voice with The Agonist, although I didn't really care for the music. Now it just sounds like she made the replacement of Angela too similar.

Yeah, the new album with her is 100% growl, and, of course, all the previous material is sung like the original. Alissa's voice fits the material perfectly, and even thought it's just growling, seems to have a little more range than Angela. It's a really good choice by the band.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra

Took my wife to see them for her birthday last week. It was our first time seeing them and we both thought they were great.

So I did go see Peter Hook last week, and yeah, that was a pretty great show! 32 songs (most of which I was very familiar with), almost 3 hours and Moby even showed up joined in for a couple songs. Everyone loved it!

Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it--yeah, I think Hook is really doing great by the fans with this tour. Jippy, did you see him?
