Re: What concert did you recently attend?
I saw Tenacious D on Monday at an outdoor venue. It was great, a perfect-weather day turned into a warm, cloudless night, it was great. I went with an old high school friend, we met up with other old high school friends, and ran into yet another. The crowd was basically ages 25, 45, and 65, just these huge gaps and I was really surprised how many young people were there.
We knew the old stuff best, so we had to go forward to listen to the new stuff to prepare. DJ Douggpound was the opener and he was funny.

Last concert I watched was the BTS taped livestream from Seoul at a movie theater last March.
It was great, though I'd rather see them in person. Unfortunately, their concert at Levi's
got cancelled due to the pandemic...

Butcher Babies Friday night in Joliet. I saw them a year ago, and thought they were a little sloppy, possibly due to the long covid break. But they were great at this show and fun to watch as usual.

Lacuna Coil on Friday night. Short tour with Butcher Babies, but happy they toured together and came to Joliet. Unfortunately it was the last day of the tour, and merch was limited to Small, Medium, and XXXL for the tour shirts. They even somehow ran out of the VIP flags and gave us a poster from the merch area in place of it.

Saw Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets last night in Providence. The show was originally supposed to be in Jan. 2021, but was postponed for reasons that I can't recall.
Anyway, for anyone who is an early Pink Floyd fan, the show is great. The band is so much fun and it seems like they're all having a blast. I'm really happy for Nick, who just wants to be a drummer and is obviously tired of all the acrimony between his former bandmates. And as someone who has listened to dozens of old PF bootlegs from 67-72, I'd dare say the Saucers are the better band. They really bring out the best in those old songs, many of which showed a glimmer of what Pink Floyd could and would be, but lacked the polish and precision they developed later in their career.

I saw Mike Campbell and the Dirty Knobs in Port Chester 9/16, another phenomenal show, Mike is getting really good at working the audience and doing the call response thing, his versions of Petty songs are starting to have their own mark, the way he slightly reworked the lyrics to Souther Accents (which he did not play this show) brings a tear to the eye.
Also saw the Cowboy Junkies 9/23, have to say Margo Timmins has not lost a step in the 20 years since I saw her last, her voice is just phenomenal. She has such a kind self-deprecating nature, I could listen to her talk all day long let alone sing.

Porcupine Tree
Sound was really good. Aside from some issues with Wilson's guitar in the first half of the show that had the guitar tech scrambling, the band sounded flawless. Great setlist, about 3 hours long.

Round Two of Taylor Hawkins Tribute shows. While Wembley was a tribute, last night was a party. Much more relaxed attitude from the band, and even more songs than Wembley. (53 songs?)

Don't expect anything on the level of Waters or Gilmour. Some cool lights and background projections is about it. It's a pretty straight forward rock and roll show, which is part of what I loved about it.

Saw Robert Cray at Graceland Soundstage on 9/23 and Chuck Leavell (documentary clips, solo piano, and Q&A session) at Germantown Performing Arts Center) last night. Both were awesome. Getting to hear Chuck do a full length solo performance of "Jessica" from 15 feet away was worth the ticket price alone.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
St Vincent at the Pearl Theater at the Palms.
It’s normally a small venue of about 2400 that just reopened after being closed for 5 years. But this show was not well attended, the top level was closed off and the rest was half full. Maybe 1000 people or so. I felt bad for her. She’s not super-well known, but she’s been around for many years, won three Indie Album of the Year Grammys. She should draw better than that. Of course it was the night that Roger Waters played T-Mobile so that probably figured into things. I wanted to see that show too but my wife made it clear that she’d be upset with me if I went to that show given Roger’s vocal anti-Israel and recent anti-Ukraine positions. So we went to this show instead. I’ve liked St Vincent for a while but my wife didn’t know her music at all. We both really enjoyed the show. She’s got a great voice and her band was really proficient. Great concert overall.
Something weird was that they opened with a stand up comedienne. No announcement of a stand up, and she didn’t introduce herself. Just started talking and after a minute I realized that she wasn’t an emcee but rather a stand-up opening act. And she was kind of raunchy. You don’t take a (small) crowd ready for a mellow indie show and just start bombarding them with genital-shaving material and expect them to LOL. A very odd choice.

Plush, Bush, Breaking Benjamin and Alice in Chains last night in West Palm Beach. They had to cancel the show in Tampa the night before.

Exodus and Death Angel last night at the Intersection in Grand Rapids Michigan. Relaxing 3 hour drive each way on a Sunday. After the show, the nearby paid parking lot exit was backed up, 25 plus cars lined up trying to get out, and the person in the front said that the credit card reader wasn't working and the cash intake was finicky, so only a couple cars had left in the previous 20 minutes. Being the super initiative taker that I am (plus I had a long drive home), I saw there was a number to call, and the lady on the other end said they have been having problems on that reader, and permanently opened the gates. I waved everyone through, and got a lot of happy metal horns.

For something completely different, I attended J-pop artist Haru Nemuri at the Metro Chicago. Great vocalist, crowd pleasing performance for sure. $20 merch shirts, and came out after the show for photos and autographs. Chicago was the first US date on the tour that she is starting on.

Re: What concert did you recently attend?
My daughter is big into J-pop / J-rock / J-metal, so she has been my link into seeing those bands. I knew nothing about this artist until my daughter mentioned the tour to me, but I did create a Spotify playlist of her music that I listened to for the past week or so, and really enjoyed it. She's super cute in person, very tiny. When I got my photo with her after the show, I did devil horns hand gesture, and she did a peace sign. Then she noticed what I was doing and switched to the devil horns for the next photo.
Here's one of her videos to get the idea of her sound
