October on the other hand I find much more consistent, with the band (and the Edge specifically) throwing out lots of interesting sounds and textures (wanna hear something even crazier? "I Threw a Brick Through a Window" is in my Top 5 U2 Songs list).
War has such classic U2 songs "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "Seconds", "New Year's Day", "Two Hearts Beat As One", "Surrender" and "40". That's nearly half the album.
October has only "Gloria", and maybe the title track, as standout cuts. It is without a doubt my least favorite and listened to U2 album. The only reason I own it is for completion purposes.
But if you love it, I'm glad at least someone does.

Since this is the U2 Reissues thread, I'll post this here : Apple has released the "album" Live In Paris exclusively on itunes. It's the same show that is the DVD on the deluxe Joshua Tree reissue, only in audio form. They charge $11.99. It's a little pricey, I guess, but if you're like me and couldn't bring yourself to spend that much on an album you already own, it's a nice alternative. I listened to most of the show and think it's great. Why is it so much better than the live stuff on Rattle & Hum? It's the same tour, but this blows that stuff out of the water, IMO.

Before I blow a fuse, let me just post this here.
I just received the Joshua Tree Deluxe box set from a seller I bought from through Amazon. The package arrived brand new and was in the shrinkwrap! BUT....upon opening the box, I discovered the CD containing the actual Joshua Tree album IS NOT HERE!! WTF??? The other two discs were in the box, the dvd and the bonus disc. But not the Joshua Tree album!
OMG I am absolutely in fumes here. Can anyone tell me if they have had this error, or have read reports about people receiving the deluxe box with a missing JT disc?
What should I do?

I informed the seller and he apologized and quickly sent me the actual disc in a blank jewel case.

was the "exclusive" nature of the set worth it? not really, but it wasn't overpriced so i'm not complaining about having an additional box to house the set in. a neat picture of the band, and it says "1977-1984" on it.
the deluxe editions themselves are packed in really thick/sturdy cardboard sleeves with hardbound book-like cases inside. really cool stuff here

no comment on the content yet. i'm in the process of ripping to my computer!

Re: One and Only U2 Reissues Thread
Even though Achtung ranks as my favorite U2 album, The Unforgettable Fire era of the band is my favorite as that is when I got into them. They kicked ass live on that tour. Hopefully a show (Dortmund?) will be included as a DVD on the super deluxe set.

Re: One and Only U2 Reissues Thread
I think UF is the album that needed remastering the most - the current cd sounds so thin and fragile - I wonder if the deluxe version will include Wide Awake, or if that'll be released on it's own.
Achtung doesn't really need a remastering, as that cd still sounds pretty good - though I'll still buy a deluxe version of it with B-sides.

I still have the Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs version of Unforgettable Fire, and it sounds pretty good. Just bring on Achtung Baby and Zooropa already.

U2 Expanding 'Unforgettable Fire' This Fall
While U2's "360 Tour" just got underway in Chicago this past weekend, fans are in store for another treat this fall as the 25th anniversary of the band's classic 1984 album, "The Unforgettable Fire" will be celebrated with a host of reissue configurations. Due October 27 from Island/Universal, four options will be available that include B-sides, rarities, alternate versions, and previously unreleased songs including "Disappearing Act" (a.k.a. "White City"), a song that was originally started in 1983 with Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois. Only recently the band put the finishing touches on "Disappearing Act" in France, according to an interview with BBC Radio 1.
Handling the re-mastering duties was U2 guitarist The Edge. The four versions will include a 180 gram vinyl album version, a standard re-mastered CD version, a deluxe double version with a 36 page bound book and a limited edition super deluxe box set, which includes the 2 CD version, a 56 page bound book, 5 portfolio prints and a DVD that will feature rare videos, concert footage and a "Making of" documentary of the album.
Although no official announcement has been made on U2.com, fans who have visited the group's merchandise table at recent concerts have received wind of this release from a shopping bag advertisement. In a possible nod to the upcoming anniversary, the band has been playing the title track "The Unforgettable Fire" at recent shows for the first time in many years. "The Unforgettable Fire" continues in a series of deluxe reissues of U2's earlier work. 2007 saw the expanded release of "The Joshua Tree," for that album's 20th anniversary and in 2008 the group reissued "War," "Boy," and "October" in similar deluxe formats.
U2 is currently in the midst of a stadium and arena tour of North America, with the next shows scheduled for September 16 and 17 at Toronto's Rogers Centre. The band's latest album "No Line on the Horizon" was released this past February and has sold 991,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan.
