I don't own the JT Deluxe set yet, but here's a different perspective to ponder over...

I was THIS close to buying the MSLF or whatever it's called CD of the JT off ebay for over $300!!! I backed down at the last minute because of another financial hurdle.

This is a CD I would pay mega bucks for, if the sound quality is exceptional. From what I hear the new JT remaster is very good, but what I want to know is, does it hold a candle to the MSFL cd? If so, I will jump on it in a New York minute! I'm a sucker for sound quality.

However, if someone replies and says they've compared the two, and came away with the impression that the MSLF CD *still* sounds superior(even slightly), then I will most likely still continue to hunt down a copy, because that's just how badly I want the very best sound quality version the Joshua Tree.

So....what say ye?

Personally I haven't heard the MSLF version, but comparing the remastered version vs. the original 'old' CD version... it sounds like an entirely new CD to me. The lows are much more defined on the remastered (deluxe) version.

Plus, if you were about to drop 'mega bucks' on the MSLF version, what's another $30 bucks for the remastered version?

If I were you I wouldn't even think twice about this one, buy the Deluxe version you, won't regret it.

U2: "Boy", "October" and "War" remastered expanded editions -7/22/08

complete article: http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/..._id=1003787295

In other U2 news, Universal has set a July 22 release for remastered, expanded editions of the band's first three albums: "Boy" (1980), "October" (1981) and "War" (1983).

Guitarist the Edge is overseeing the reissues, which will include the original album on a single-disc, 180-gram vinyl and in a two-CD package featuring B-sides, rare tracks and live material.

The reissue program began last fall with "The Joshua Tree," which featured a previously unreleased video for "Red Hill Mining Town" and a host of other rarities.

I also saw a pending listing at Amazon recently for a remastered "Under a Blood Red Sky". Any news on that one?

Boy, October, War: Remastered

U2’s first three albums have been remastered and will be released by Universal on July 21st.

Following the remastered release of The Joshua Tree last year, Edge has overseen a similar remastering of Boy (1980), October (1981) and War (1983). All of which have been remastered from the original audio tapes.

Each album will be released as a standard single disc, a deluxe double version including a disc of b-sides, live tracks and rarities, and an LP version pressed on 180gm virgin vinyl.

The packaging on all three titles has been restored and expanded, with new liner notes for each record, previously unseen photos and full lyrics. More details as we get them.

I wonder if the b sides on the remasters will be the complete collection of b-sides from the time of the album itself. I'll look forward to these since I don't have any early U2 in my collection.

i'm sure that's next on the list, as it came after these three...

while it'll be nice to have these three remastered, i'd be looking most forward to hearing Under A Blood Red Sky, Zooropa, and Achtung Baby remastered.

As mentioned, it would have been great if they could have included a live DVD with each disc of a show from that album tour, like they did with Joshua Tree.

I don't know how much live footage exists of U2 from the Boy and October tours. I think the best we could hope for is a remastered DVD release of "Live from Red Rocks."

good thinkin...... i'd be happy with that.

in all honesty though, remastered sound is the selling point for me here. i'll take whatever bonus tracks they want to throw my way though.

I wonder is meant be "remastered". With the Edge overseeing it I think everything will be alright, but there has been a lot of discussion over at Murmurs.com about the "Loudness Wars" that complains about some "remasters" simply being the originals with the volume cranked up.

Did you hear The Joshua Tree remaster from last year? It is gorgeous - the Edge oversaw that one too and it suffered from none of the compression or over-EQing that the loudness wars are known for. It is a textbook example of the way remasters should be done. I can't see why the rest of the catalog would be any different.

Fair enough. I actually haven't listened to the Joshua Tree, but I'll have to give it a listen. Thanks for the info!

Early U2 Reissues Packed With Rarities

A wealth of previously unreleased and rare material will be found on reissues of the early U2 albums "Boy," "War" and "October," due July 22 via Universal. Each album will be available as a remastered single CD, a deluxe set with a second disc of extras and on vinyl.

U2's 1980 debut album, "Boy," features the previously unreleased tracks "Speed of Life," "Saturday Night" and "Cartoon World" and a previously unreleased mix of "I Will Follow." "Boy-Girl" and "11 O'Clock Tick Tock" are captured in live versions taped at London's Marquee.

anyone have specs for the upcoming U2 At Red Rocks DVD?

after the gold standards that Universal set for ZooTV and Popmart, I really am curious to see what they have in store for this, which was really the show that put U2 on the map in the 1980's. I know it's coming soon, but I haven't heard anything about specs. Considering it's a 25 year old concert, and was before U2 really had become megastars (as opposed to all of the easily available footage for Pop and Zoo), any idea of some extra goodies on these? I am not the biggest fan of live DVD's and only buy them from a handful of artists, but U2's are always so well done that I find myself buying it even after telling myself I have too many live DVD's.

The only thing I felt missing from the Zoo and POP dvds were...

The zootv fox tv special would have been a great extra. Some of the footage is included. I think it was only 45 mins, so they could have included it on the 2nd disc.

Also, it would have been great if they had made retrospective featuretes with some new interviews.

Other than that, these sets were amazing.

there's a discussion on amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/Under-blood-re...06&store=music
Amazon UK has this CD and a companion DVD set for a mid-August release date. Even the official U2 site (www.u2.org) has no information about it. There is some indication that the new album will be out in late October 2008, however:

That New Record

Paul McGuinness has been talking to BBC's 6 Music about the new record - and when it might arrive.

The exact release date, he said, was "not clear yet but I would think towards the end of October".

"We will obviously work with whatever technology is available to make the release of the new record as interesting as possible," he added.
