CostCo usually marks down this sort of stuff by about 35%, so I'm guessing they're price would be around $35.

Here's a clip from the DVD in the set:

Even though I saw them at that tour, I didn't realize how stripped-down, laid-back and bare-bones their shows used to be compared to the huge productions they've been putting on since the early '90s. Their shows now are so much bigger, louder and over the top that they make this show look and sound like some small club gig.

Compare the above to this clip from 2005 - their sound is just so much bigger now.

I don't know about that. Costco's stocking process regarding CDs seems to be hit/miss.

Hell, they never even got the new Foos. But, they got some Spanish shit I never even heard of...

$22.50 is a bad deal for a three disc set?

Well, that $22.50 ship has already sailed. (coupon expired yesterday)

DDD.com has it for $50.38 - %20 = $40.31 shipped.

When you have to pay $25 for the ability to buy the $22.50 set, then yes, it is.

Terrible prices in the ads today. I'll probably get the two-disc, although the 'hardcover book packaging' sounds pretty terrible.

i don't see it in anyone but BB's ad, and it's $39.99. for the deluxe/limited edition. not terribly bad.

also, i just realized you can get it at FYE for $29.99, paying with PayPal & using code "paypal10", and there's a $3.00 rebate.

I'll be overpaying at Best Buy and then hoping for a price-match credit within the next 30 days.

Just picked this up (the deluxe version). I'm a little disappointed b/c the 2nd CD has songs from the Best Of collections from a few years back. You're paying for the packaging with this one it seems. I hope the DVD is good enough to justify this purchase.

I wasn't impressed with the 2 clips from the DVD that I have seen. It seems kind of primitive in the way it was filmed. Lots of wide shots from far away and lots of long close-ups on Bono. It is very poorly lit also. It's almost like those who filmed it had no clue how to shoot a live concert. Of course they may have not assumed it would be released in full when they shot it. Either way it isn't very good. I would pay a little extra for it and the few new songs, but the price is way too high.

Also, is the DVD a full show? I can't imagine they wouldn't play Where The Streets Have No Name at all of the shows on that tour.

I just finished watching the dvd and I thought it was very good. Yeah, sure, it was rather crudely filmed, certainly compared to U2's later live dvds. But the performances were mostly top notch. Bono's voice was especially strong, The Edge was amazing as usual, etc. This dvd was only in stereo, no 5.1, but it sounded fine anyway.
Highlights for me were Trip through your wires, Exit, Unforgettable Fire, New Year's Day, and Bullet the blue sky. I also liked the nearly ten minute version of With or without you. On one point during this song, Bono stops the performance and berates the security guards(I guess) for dousing the overly exited audience members in the front with tear gas(!). Another classic bit was when Bono has a fan brought on stage during Electric Co. This fan is...well, you just have to see it to believe it.
All in all, I'm very pleased with this super deluxe cd/dvd packgage. I'm no hardcore audiophile, but I thought the remastering was excellent. It might even be better that the long out-of-print Mobile Fidelity disc. Plus, the packaging sure is pretty. So is this worth forty bucks? Well, I paid zero bucks for this, I used an American Express 50 dollar gift check I received as a birthday gift a few months ago to purchase this bad boy, so I don't know. I do know it would make a great stocking stuffer, that's for sure. Ask Santa to get you this for X-mas if you don't want to part with 40 bucks.
Hopefully, this will be just be the beginning of a remastered U2 backlog. Next year is the 20th anniversay of the much maligned Rattle & Hum and the 25th anniversary of War.

Usually I wouldn't pay this much for a 2CD/1DVD set, but with U2 its hard to not get something they put out. Additionally the 2CD versions of the best of disks are considered hard to find and cost a fair amount of money on the secondary market now, and I'm sure the deluxe edition of this will do the same... that being said, I'll be hitting up Best Buy for the deluxe edition after work.

I wonder why they didn't just put the rest of the videos from the Joshua Tree singles on there. It's only two more videos.

VERY dissapointed in the 3-4 new 'songs' on the bonus disc. They're at best poor recordings of unfinished songs or even song ideas. U2 should do better than that. Haven't watched the DVD yet, so this will make or break the $40 purchase for me...

So far I am loving the box set. I watched the documentary on the DVD and it was just a camera following them around, but it was still interesting to see some of the stuff. Bono says "only in America" many times. I still need to watch the concert and the videos though. The Joshua Tree sounds amazing. I haven't listened to the whole bonus disk... but so far I am liking it as well. Some of the songs may have been released before, but not necessarily in this incarnation. Sweetest Thing for example is much different than its previous release.

As for the comment about unfinished songs, etc... isn't that the point of this bonus disk? It is described as b-sides and rarities from the Joshua Tree Sessions. I think it is at the very least interesting to hear some of these songs and the direction that the band decided to go.

The real treat for me was when I opened up the envelope with the photo prints. I immediately pictured having these framed and hung in my office. I think they are some amazing photos and will make a great art piece.
