It's funny though. Sometimes, even with all these tunes at my disposal, there are days when I feel like I've just run out of things to play. I get that music shop "twitch" where I just want to head to the local indie shop and flip idly through new discs. It's a sickness, I know. But I've adapted to it.

I started buying CD's around 89/90 and was up to about 750 titles 2 years ago when I decided to get rid of all the CDs I'd probably never listen to again. I dropped down to about 400, but now I'm up to about 575. I was making it a point to sell an old CD every time I bought a new one (so I would have a place to store them all!), but I've laxed a bit on that now. I'm going to start going through my collection twice a year to get rid of more stuff. QUALITY, NOT QUANTITY!

Though I'll admit that having thousands of DVD's is weirder IMO. You can listen to music all the time, while your driving, while your jogging, while your working, etc. With movies you have to invest 2 hours of your time to sit down and watch it, so if you have a 1000 dvds they'd each get played a lot less often on average than a 1000 cd's.
I have 239 CDs and 101 DVDs and I'm very happy with my collection. I can find something I want to listen, or something I feel like watching, anytime.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with owning thousands of cd's or dvd's. I was just curious and I've always been somewhat fascinated by the notion of people having such huge collections and interested in hearing them say how they justify spending all that money on them.

I own around 1,500 CDs or something like that. I don't have enough money these days to buy too much new stuff, but I still pick up probably 5 to 10 discs a month.

I would say probably at least 1500. Mind you I also collect UK CD Singles so..... I would actually be afraid to count them all. My big problem is space, I have so many CD's that I have had to throw away the jewel cases and start putting them in three ring binders and now with my hobby of buying DVD's the space issue is even worse.

About 2,000 discs... a few hundred LPs... a lot of tapes all of which used to be blank
I just moved my whole music collection to a friend's basement while we try and sell our home. Moving the CD's wasn't a big deal... the albums however were a royal pain. I wish I could make some money selling that stuff, but they aren't worth much. I used to think I had a bunch of dud compact discs until I made a killing on Ebay with some out of print garbage.
