Thank you, mp3

I own about 120 CDs... I stopped buying them in early 1998. I began to acquire MP3 albums back them. Now I have about a thousand of those...

5000+ CD and 1000+ LPs. Close to 500 Cassettes.

My fiance worked as a reviewer for nearly 12 years tho, so a lot of that was acquired pretty easily.

And strangely enuogh, Ryan Adams was one of the last CDs we bought as well. This week I'm buying the new Sheila Chandra, the Strokes, and the new Leonard Cohen. (hopefully the new New Order if it comes in in time).

How many Cd's do you own?

I think I have around 2,000. Started in '88. I don't buy them new anymore. Mostly used and often from pawn shops very cheaply. I love that I can download stuff and hear a full album free at home... and give the recording a few listens before buying it. Certainly I've got some old stuff I don't listen to anymore, but I've been able to make some BIG bucks on Ebay with these older CD's that are out of print. Anyway, it's funny when someone walks in my spare bedroom and sees all the CD's... they kind of freak. And I am sure some of you have a lot more than I do!

My collection's hovering right around the 5500 mark. I haven't added much lately - since we're in the post-holidays used CD bust period.

Plus, I just haven't found much lately that really tripped my trigger - so to speak.

Me and my fiance have 239 cd's. She has around 50 that I have too, as we've only lived together for about 3 years. We keep those in the bedroom for convenience.

I'm shocked at some of the numbers. How do you guys with thousands of cd's justify having them? Hell over half of our collection probably hasn't been listened to in the past year, and some of you guys have over 20 times the number we have.

Having 2,000 Cd's doesn't seem that weird to me to be honest. I think it's VERY strange to own that many DVD's. Or half that. Or a fourth of that. I mean, don't you listen to music over and over compared to a movie? I can probably only list 10 movies that I could watch more than 2 times. And I LOVE movies. I find it much stranger to own a lot of movies instead of renting ones that you haven't seen before. But there are plenty of CD's I like to listen to a lot. Sure, I have some music I just own to have... sort of the collectors mentality. It's my one true hobby!

Long time since I counted! Probably around 400.

I started buying 11 years ago several months in advance of getting a CD player and associated hi-fi in the summer of 1991!

I need to get them into some kind of order again. Got to find some better storage!

According to the cdtracker I use, 883 total. I stopped buying cd's at the emergence of DVD's. Since moving closer to my job my travel time has been reduced [was 45min now 15min]. I don't have travel time but for 2 -3 songs.

I'm around 350 right now (since 1992), and I've slowed down considerably in the last 2 years since I started buying DVDs and because most recent music, in my opinion, is worthless.

I used to buy almost 2 or 3 per week, but I'd be surprised if I've bought 2 or 3 per year the last two years. If anything, I buy albums from older groups. And, truth by told, I probably buy considerably less due in large part to MP3s.
