I lasted 20 minutes. It's a cringe inducing total bore and I'd still marry Laura Dern.

I guess Soderbergh’s direction couldn’t save it.

I tried. Really! But I had to bail.
It might have been better with actual clips of the performances and films instead of introductions which made for it just seeming like speech upon longer speech.

The lack of clips is just shocking, between that and the songs being gone (not that I'm as much a fan of those performances), it's just people in a room talking to each other, isn't it?

I think it’s like being at a wedding reception you don’t really want to be at. People you don’t know at little tables making speeches.

I’m glad that Best Doc, My Octopus Teacher is on NF. It captivated me right from that clip. Gave me chills. Can’t wait to watch.

I would rather watch a reunion of Rob Lowe and Snow White than what is going on right now. Say what you will about Jimmy Kimmel, but at least he brought some energy and levity to the occasion. This is so deadly dull.

So I read there’s about 170 in attendance as opposed to the normal 3000 plus. This show definitely doesn’t have the special feel of a normal year. Not having an orchestra is also sorely missing.

As for the show, who cares? It’s almost always been like this, last 15 years or so. No more Crystals, big opening numbers. Just give out the awards is the only interest it invokes. Nothing else has ever been of significance for a long time.

I like some of the changes. I like that it's a smaller show without so many random montages, like let's look at a 3-minute segment on how food has been used in film. I'm also totally good with more focus on the movies and nominees and not having the orchestra music play people off.
But I think it's the intros for the categories and nominees that's really killing the show. They aren't visually engaging at all; it's just a person standing there and reading a long section of text. Removing the clunky intros and adding movie clips of nominees would make a huge difference. Some of the technical categories, like costume and makeup, really benefit from having those clips and no doubt get more people interested in those films, which should ultimately be the point of these awards.

I hate low frame rate video. Is this going to be the norm now for the Oscars just like it has been for the Super Bowl halftime show?
Sad that ABC’s bug is back after they kept it off the Oscars for a few years. Stupid thing was obscuring some of the show’s text.
I have most of the 1978 awards show on tape, probably couldn’t get away with putting it on YouTube but need to get it on Archive.org.

I def like the GG show better. Much better everyone remote. Done commentary from Fey/Poehler. As I miss thee live shows, this just sucks.

I understand the need to distance because of COVID, but boy did there need to be someone there to aid Yuh-jung Youn up those steps.
EDIT: On re-watch I see they don't have steps, but a winding ramp. When she was walking up to the stage she didn't seem to know where she was supposed to go and needed some guidelines. Instead of going to the mouth of the ramp she climbs up to the next layer.

Happy that she won, but that was awkward how no one helped her up and down and Brad Pitt tried to awkwardly social distance himself from her as she was walking down. But then he finally helped her.

Im glad someone else can see this.
I mentioned it over at HTF but our friends there said that it looks normal to them.
It looks like a low res stream that doesn’t have enough bandwidth.
Can hop over there and tell them you see it too, K Thanx.

Some of my friends like how the telecast is being produced. They like that it’s smaller and more intimate.
But I agree the pace and energy of the telecast is kind of making it a slog.

Amanda Seyfried seeming to take offense at the cinematographer's "Thanks for hitting your marks. It matters."

While I like the more intimate production, I agree that the low resolution video doesn't look good at all. Again, I think there are some good choices, but the poor ones seem to outweigh the good.

Harrison Ford’s intro speech was kind of funny.
I do like Tyler Perry. He’s good man and well deserving of this Humanitarian award. His work as a filmmaker is hit or miss, mostly miss, but the guy has helped the poor and has given thousands of people jobs.
