Re: The General Star Wars Discussion Thread

I enjoyed her appearance, but she wasn't a draw and getting rid of her didn't seem to hurt the show onscreen or behind the scenes. So what's the need to bring her back? Disney isn't running a charity.

EDITED TO ADD: I suppose it could help lock down the oft-ignored "Sci-Fi is Too Progressive" Demographic.

Exactly... she is a terrible actress. I don't care if she never gets another acting role.

Ahh yes, she's such "a draw" she's only managed to snag 2 projects in the last 6 years since The Mandalorian.

Sometimes it's okay to admit someone is horrible, on and off screen.

Oh she isn’t going to make anyone forget Meryl Streep but she was fine for the role she played. If one steps back and assesses it, Star Wars has never been about great acting. It’s the story lines and world building that draw us in. I mean, Ian Mcdiarmid as Palpatine is maybe the only actual tangible good performance in the entire 9 film saga.

Whatever, I’m sure she won’t be back.

Talk about damning with faint praise. If the best you can muster up is that the was "fine," with the additional qualifier of "for the role she played," it doesn't sound like Lucasfilm/Disney is missing much not having her around anymore.

Ian McDiarmid had the biggest performance in Star Wars, but that doesn't mean it's the best.

Harrison Ford as Han Solo in the original trilogy is a really good, naturalistic performance. It's funny and believable. Hell, Peter Cushing gave a better villain performance in the original Star Wars as Grand Moff Tarkin than Ian McDiarmid did as Palpatine.

Star Wars Celebration 2027 merch. Will be available next week when tickets go on sale. Here is some of what is being offered. I'm going to be home next Wednesday, so I'm going to try to secure a ticket for 2 days. Still deciding if I want to try to go on a Saturday.

https://www.starwarscelebration.com/...rch/merch.html

I probably won't try to get any merch unless I can secure a ticket.

One of the biggest, most creative media franchises in the world and they churn out a dogshit AI poster for their huge anniversary. A new low for the franchise, truly.

ETA: Apparently not AI. Artist: https://www.instagram.com/julienricojr/
It sucks that this guy's style has essentially become synonymous with AI work. So much of the artificial slop churned out looks extremely similar to his style.

There's been an ongoing controversy about AI art being sold at comic conventions.

I suspect that in the near future, AI art will be nearly indistinguishable from human-created art as both AI improves and human-produced art becomes influenced by AI art.

I'm aware. AI has taken over the local art/farmers market, as well. I think I got fooled into buying a bookmark early on, even when I asked them if they used AI.

AI or not, the geometry of the planet and it's relationship to Vader's helmet on that poster really bugs me. It's all I see when I look at it.

Yeah, the composition on that poster is really peculiar -- how the top of Vader's helmet touches the edge of the planet, the way Luke's lightsaber gets lost going straight up the middle of Vader's nose. Seems like two huge design no-no's right there. Makes wonder if someone from Disney marketing looked at an early version of the poster and wanted Vader featured more prominently. Or maybe Vader wasn't even in the original version of the poster.

I would never wear it, but that Tatooine jacket is both ugly and cool looking at the same time to me.

Yeah, I'd rather see something like an "in-universe" style for a jacket, like something the field reps for Kuat Drive yards would wear or something.

First comment is true.

Second comment - she might rip it off. She gives me female wrestler Chyna vibes.

Some actors booked to appear at SW Celebration. As usual Hayden is a regular to SW Cons.
