Saw it Friday at a packed theater. My favorite of the prequels so good to see it on the big screen again. Biggest applause was Anakin and the younglings.

I just got home from seeing Revenge of Sith and it's incredible on the Large Format screen. Just an awesome experience back on the big screen and it took around $25 million for the weekend. For me I'd rank the Prequels in Order. Revenge of the Sith, phantom menace and then Attack of the Clones last. It's heartbreaking how much Disney has destroyed the franchise but we will always have episodes 1-6 as the good movies. The only movies I'll ever recognize as cannon.

My wife and I went to Revenge of the Sith last night. Fun seeing it on the big screen again. It brings me back to seeing it when I was graduating high school. The showing we went to was pretty packed too, especially considering we went to a late showing (9:45).

Also might consider trying to go to Celebration in 2027 if I can get tickets and they’re not super expensive. Would be a fun trip and a cool thing to do at least once.

I've really only watched Rogue One once and that was in theaters.

I've got to say it's a pretty cool feeling to see the younger generation celebrate the success of this re-release as well of those who have been longtime fans of the prequel era (Namely the Clone Wars show) but of course, the "People who cried Woke" aren't being silent about it and had to join in on the Disney bashing...And these are the same dumbasses who cheered Disney when Moana 2 "DESTROYED" Wicked at the box office.

I skipped seeing Revenge in 2005 (it was a busy period of my life, and AOTC had sapped my enthusiasm for this trilogy), so seeing it twenty years later on a big screen was a worthwhile theatre trip. It look fantastic. Obviously, the lava planet is the stand-out, but even the shadowy halls of the government buildings and the cityscapes were rich and cinematic. I'd pretty much the same as Phantom Menace in that there's lots of draggy section, but the handful of set-pieces are incredibly thrilling. Just adding the John Williams score to the background makes pretty much every scene watchable.

This Christmas will be 10 years since The Force Awakens came out. Disney could try and do a similar one week re-release in theaters and no one would care.

If you ask me, the greatest sin of the sequel trilogy was that they somehow gaslit people into thinking the prequels are good.

That's because the prequels are good compared to the sequels. One was a coherent telling of a story through three movies (with flaws). The other was a jumbled mess made by multiple people who had no singular vision and decided to go against many things SW canon had put in place.

Force Awakens is a fun movie. I watched it last year with the local orchestra playing live. Definitely a fun experience.

Revenge of the Sith is fine. Best of the prequels Sure? Kinda damning it with faint praise. They all are just as flawed as the sequels. So we're supposed to buy Anakin's redemption in front of Luke after watching him murder a dozen children and force choking his wife? Come on. Padme, a strong leader of nations gives birth & decides to throw in the towel and dies of a broken heart? Noooooo! Any pretenses of having secondary characters is gone, it's the all Anakin all the time show for 2 hours. The acting is still garbage (outside of Ewan). Say what you will about the sequels, but they were never hampered by the acting (except Benicio DelToro's overacting nonsense, or whatever the hell that was).

I think people are looking at it through rose tinted glasses because of the hundreds of hours of extra content via Clone Wars, Bad Batch, etc. that fleshed out the story and characters in a way Lucas never could. On its own, it's still a pretty mediocre flick.

And I have to say despite all that content, we still have yet to be given a story/arc that successfully shows why Padme fell for Anakin in the first place, let alone was willing to abandon her kids because of him. Episode II & III failed in that regard and Clone Wars didn't really broach it either. We're just supposed to buy their relationship for, reasons.

This must be a new phenomenon. The sequel trilogy isn’t very good but they’re masterpieces compared to the shit that is the prequel trilogy.

The fact that Lucas had three movies to connect the series to the original trilogy and apparently forgot to do that until the last 15 minutes of the third movie, and then slaps a bunch of silly shit against the wall to connect the two trilogies is unforgivable.

Padme dying because she had nothing to live for literally seconds after giving birth to twins, Anakin making a switch to the dark side on what feels like a whim, wiping the droids memories so it aligns with A New Hope, Yoda running and hiding literally in the middle of a lightsaber fight, etc. are all incredibly lazy plot points that should have been thought out so much better throughout the entire trilogy.

That’s not even including the atrocious visual effects throughout the prequel trilogy that already looked dated on opening weekend and you’ve got a very forgettable trilogy.

Bullshit, I'd be there opening night. Especially since I'll be showing my wife the Sequels this December anyway

My latest "I wonder what Star Wars would be like if..." idea is this:

What if instead of a new character named Padme Amidala, it turned out Luke and Leia's mother was an already-established character -- Mon Mothma.

The films then end up a struggle between a desperately-estranged husband and wife and a full-on galactic civil war custody battle over their kids.

Perhaps Mon Mothma was even secretly their mother all along and they never knew, so there's no need to retcon from Return of the Jedi.

Personally, I love this idea.

I think the prequels have their strengths, and they stand out because those strengths are different than the sequels' strengths, but they aren't "good" and never will be. I get that a lot of Millennial/Gen Z kids who grew up with them love them, and that's fine. I have plenty of nostalgic favorites that also aren't good. But let's not rewrite history because we have an axe to grind with Disney.

I’m surprised a coked up movie producer in the early 80s never pitched “Kramer vs. Kramer…in Space!”

The prequels are more appreciated now since the prequel kids are now adults. The same thing will happen to the sequel trilogy.

and for the record, The Force Awakens made over $2 billion and is one of the best reviewed of the series.

There will definitely be interest in the 10th anniversary re-release.

There's no difference between the 70s/80s kids who idolized Luke, to the 2000s kids for Anakin, to the kids for Rey. I saw that when my young nieces at the time, who were not into Star Wars at all, became fans of Rey and the Force Awakens.

Each generation has its Star Wars.

One of my seniors was giving a presentation (Holocaust adjacent) and talked about Anakin growing up to be Darth Vader. When he finished, I had to say, “That was quite fascinating, from a certain point of view. You see a kid who grew up and became corrupted. I see them trying to retroactively present Hitler as a sympathetic child.”

I can honestly say that the only Star Wars movie (in their current incarnations) that I would have interest in seeing in a theater again is The Force Awakens. It certainly has its flaws, but I think it holds up pretty well as a one off.

No interest in seeing Force Awakens in the theater again and usually keep flipping the channel if I come across it. I remember seeing it opening night and thinking, after all this time, remaking the original film (and not as good) was the best they could do?

Totally fine to dislike the movie of course, but how quickly we forget. The Prequel reclamation was BARELY nascent at that time. The Red Letter Media criticism was very popular. There was not a lot of faith in the brand, so they played it incredibly safe. This was also the year that really kicked off the legacy sequel/requel, between this, Fury Road, and Jurassic World, so it was a new "storytelling method" still.

And I know you aren't defending the Prequels, but Phantom Menace and Star Wars can both be summed up as "Young royal seeks out an old warrior to overcome imperialist invaders who threaten her people".

Star Wars and Force Awakens are of course, "Young farmer teams up with a old warrior to stop a fascist government's super weapon".

I had a professor who said, "There's only two plots: someone goes somewhere new and someone new comes to town." Since that, plot similarities have never bothered me, really. I'm not saying it can't bug other people, though
