Saw the first one and heard from some people I know that the second was much better so I gave it a chance.

LOL. It’s John Wick, we’re you expecting some kind of European drama for the sequel?

Re: The Worst Films of 2017.

I doubt that's what inri had in mind, but something better than what it was wouldn't have hurt.

There were lots of little things that suggested a cool world to explore in the first movie, the second one just kind of took it in an less interesting direction. By the time we're at the point where everybody is apparently an assassin, it was just lame. Still, hope Chapter III is decent.

Well considering what the first one was like, how much different should it have been? In order to make it “better”? Legit question, I don’t know what would have made you plebeians happy, but I thought more of the same was fine for a movie/character like that.

I wasn't expecting European drama when I saw The Road Warrior, The Dark Knight or The Empire Strikes Back and yet I liked those much better than the originals.

Re: The Worst Films of 2017.

It doesn't really have to be drastically different, just more focused, intriguing or hell just move the story in an interesting direction.

Action works better when you actually give a shit about why it's happening. I did in the first, didn't in the second. It isn't on my worst of the year, though I get the disappointment in it is all I'm saying.

As a fan of Johnny To and early John Woo, I agree.

I think it's interesting that being this is a "Worst of" or disappointing thread, some here, who didn't even comment in the John Wick 2 review thread are being vocal and critical.

If these guys posted these comments in the John Wick 2 review thread, which the majority liked or loved, they would have probably gotten yelled at, be called names, a hater and such.

Anyone who expresses displeasure in a testosterone-themed action film that most liked gets a lot of shit for their opinion.

I don't see how JW2 or Spiderman: Homecoming could be considered worst movies of the year at all.

It sure wasn't me. I was very vocal and critical in that thread.

Add to that the wooden acting, silly plot (hobo hitmen ), and trying to be cool annoying subtitles.

I like my action with some substance, give me some Johnnie To and I'm a happy camper.

I think Inri makes a sound argument. If a movie in a series is described as better than another entry and you trust that persons judgement what else would you need?

I mean do you not believe one movie is capable of being better than another?

An example of what "better" is. Fury Road> Beyond Thunderdome. A movie better than Beyond Thunderdome would have made a plebeian like me happy, and George Miller delivered that film.

What's the percentage of sequels being better than the original? I think you all cited most of them. I never saw or anticipated John Wick being as lofty needing a sequel being "better" as the original. It was Keanu with guns and violence killing over a dog. But the plebians demand more! We need story and emotional arcs for the sequel! I agree it was bad, but no worse than the first. But certainly better than a lot of others that came out last year. Yeah, bar is low on that.

I didn't like Fury Road, but I have to agree that it was better than Beyond Thunderdome.

You're entitled to your opinion of course but what? Better action and a much better ending are two reasons why it was......"Better".

So for those of you who hated Blade Runner 2049 - that means you either never saw or hated the original right?

Having better action doesn't equate to being a better movie overall.

I couldn't finish John Wick 2, and I agree with the criticism of it, but I wouldn't call it the worst movie of the year. It just wasn't my thing.

As for Homecoming, I'm surprised by the dislike for it. I thought it was pretty good, but I haven't sought out any negative reviews for it to see why people might have disliked it.

As for Blade Runner 2049, hell, that's easily in my top 5 list of best movies of 2017.

Yup, Terminator 2 had better action/effects/etc than the first one, but the overall film IMO was not better than the original.

I didn't see much last year, but The Boss Baby was predictably terrible. We have thankfully managed to avoid The Emoji Movie to this point.

According to this thread that makes T2 one of the worst movies of it's year. Just like Return of The Jedi was the worst movie of 1983.

Still one of my favourite songs.

Or maybe there were some who did see and liked the original but the sequel just didn't work for them.

That wasn't Superman III?

Or Octopussy?
