Have seen the original many times and I love it. BR2049 did nothing to advance that world. It created a world all its own and did so masterfully. However as a sequel to Blade Runner, it did nothing.

Seriously? I have seen Blade Runner several times. Seeing the original does not have anything to do with making BR2049 anything more than the pretentious boring snoozefest it is.

The House with Amy Poehler was not one of the worst in 2017.
Girls Trip yes. If you liked that movie please don't come near me

I do a pretty good job of avoiding movies I end up hating but a couple comedies that were complete shit:
Snatched
Rough Night

I'm surprised the hate for Spiderman: Homecoming. I thought it was the best Spiderman film since the 2nd Spiderman film with McGuire.
I still liked BR2049, but in retrospect, and from the general consensus of this thread is that it was not as expansive as the first. Hell, Mute and Altered Carbon did a much better job of illustrating their worlds than BR2049 did. BR2049 is too self-contained. IMO

I would argue that Mute is just as self-contained, if not more so. A good chunk of the film takes place within walking distance of Leo's apartment and workshop.

I disagree. There were way more futuristic locations beyond his place and the non-future parts -- those also include the spots featuring Rudd and Theroux.

I'm very confused as to how people can thing BR2049 is more self contained than the original.
What do you mean by self contained? The bulk of the original takes place in a persons apartment along with a bunch of city shots.
It's all good, I just don't see it the way everyone else does but I find it weird seeing as how even you loved the original...you can easily see how closed in it is.

BR2049 is a more personal story, basically focusing on the old "what it means to be human" trope.
BR had more world building and a broader narrative. IMO at least. I felt like you also got a better sense of location in the original since there was more street level movement.
BR2049 had plenty of places but they definitely felt a bit more compartmentalized, and while the "impact" of the story could lead to a lot, the story just felt very brief.
But I like them both, so I'm probably off base there. I do prefer BR greatly to BR2049 though.
Much like Atlanta sort of took the wind out of the sail for me with Get Out, I think the fact I had a binge session with Westworld just prior to watching this hurt it a bit.

Those are good points - seems like it's more of personal perspective type thing.

I think the world building was accomplished in the first Blade Runner. As a continuation of the story, I don't think it needed to be done again. If you'd seen the first Blade Runner, you were already aware of what that world was like. If you hadn't seen the first Blade Runner, I can see how BR2049 might have seemed like a convoluted mess. For me, having seen the original multiple times, and very much enjoying the world/story that had been created, I welcomed a return to that world and I was not disappointed. Not at all disappointed.

The film was worse than one that is outright bad or one that you hate, it was just such a pathetic production I may have literally sighed after it was over and said what was the point of that?
I enjoyed Trainwreck so I have nothing against Amy Schumer...but what an embarrassing film to have on your resume.

The first film I saw in 2017 was The Bye Bye Man.
Definitely one of the worst films I saw all of last year.

I was going to add Bye Bye Man, but then I realized I couldn't remember a single solitary thing about the movie. It was that forgettable I guess. Maybe that does qualify it for worst now that I think about it.

I caught Snatched on cable a few weeks back and holy cow it was just a sad pathetic shell of a wannabe comedy film, Amy Schumer is better than this...I wonder what she was thinking when she pitched this film to the studio but I think even less of the studio executives who did not head this one off at the pass.
